National Prayer Rally

Ghanaian Christians Pray Against LGBTQI+ Movement In Ghana

The Christian community in Ghana, including some Muslim clerics on Sunday evening [March 21, 2021] converged at the Burma Camp Worship Centre auditorium of The Church of Pentecost in Accra to seek divine intervention against the activities of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Right (LGBTQI+) movement in the country.

The event dubbed the ‘Ecumenical Prayer Rally’ was on the theme, “Homosexuality: A Detestable Sin To God” (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:18-32; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

The prayer rally was organised by the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), Ghana Charismatic Bishops Conference (GCBC), National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC), and all other churches and Christian organisations in Ghana, in collaboration with the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values.

Under the distinguished chairmanship of Apostle Prof Opoku Onyinah, Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, echelons of the Christian faith in the country led the gathering to pray earnestly for the power of God to stem the activities of the LGBTQI+ movement in Ghana following the recent uproar in the country due to the official opening of the LGBTQI+ office in Accra.

Among the prayer topics was the call for sharper and clearer legislation on LGBTQI+ in the country and the rehabilitation, guidance, and counselling of repentant souls as well as education on proper sexuality.

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, who opened the prayer session, stressed the need for Ghanaians to intensify their prayers for God to rescue the nation from the forces behind the LGBTQI+ movement.

“If there was a time that this nation needed to pray to seek the intervention of God, it is now,” he said, adding, “If we want the country back on morality, then we must get on our knees. The value of prayer no one can measure.”

Giving the purpose for the prayer rally, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana and Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Most Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, said that recent events in the country “clearly suggest that the nation is under a siege. What we hear and see coming into our nation is like a siege and we must stand against it. We know that human mind and ideas cannot fight this battle.”

He charged Christians to “speak to God in prayer and the Lord will hear us and come to our rescue.” “We are here to deliver this nation from the hands of the evil one. We know him as the God who hears and answers prayer,” he added as he read from Psalm 91:15; Isaiah 58:9; 65:24, and Luke 11:9, indicating God’s promises to his children.

Apostle Prof Opoku Onyinah, Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, said that the Coalition views the LGBTQI+ movement in Ghana as “an upfront to our long-cherished religious values, customs, and traditions as well as the laws of the land.

“The actions of the LGBTQI+ is also completely aberrant with the laws and principles of the Almighty God, especially concerning his plan of creation and the sanctity of marriage between man and woman.”

He expressed the Coalition’s appreciation to the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for declaring that his administration will never allow the legalisation of same-sex marriages in the country. This declaration, he said, consequently led to the closing down of the offices of the movement, of which the Coalition is grateful to the President.

“We wish, however, to put this forward; we advocate that Ghana’s stand on the LGBTQI+ will be legislated clearly without any ambiguity.

Touching on the negative impact of the practices of the LGBTQI+, Apostle Prof Opoku Onyinah said that there is enough evidence to show that the lives of many young persons have been ruined in the countries where they operate. “The lives of the youths who are future leaders of these countries are being destroyed,” citing the Gay, Lesbian Medical Association website to back his statement. He added: “We learn from peoples and countries’ success stories but not their destructive stories. He, therefore, called on all concerned Ghanaians to rise to resist the activities of the movement.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship, Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, who represented the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, disclosed that a group called ‘MPs Against LGBTQI+’ has been formed in Parliament which has issued a statement on the floor of the House against the activities of the LGBTQI+ movement in Ghana.

He stated that the group is introducing a Private Members’ Bill which will once and for all define what Carnal Knowledge and Homosexuality are. “We Christians should pray that the Bill will go through smoothly so that we will have it passed by the close of the year. We pray that no MP will oppose the Bill,” he said, adding, “The Speaker of Parliament has graciously agreed to meet with us including the clergy to start the process of the Private Members’ Bill. He has given his full blessing to the Bill.”

“Fighting this battle cannot be done alone by us in Parliament. The movement will do everything they can to frustrate us because it is an end-time thing. We should brace ourselves up for the battle ahead,” the MP pointed out.

The Personal Assistant to the National Chief Imam, Dr Mohammed Marzuk Abubakar Azindoo, declared the Chief Imam and the Muslim community’s support for the effort by the Christian community to nib the activities of the LGBTQI+ movement in the bud. He called for clear-cut legislation to criminalise the practice of LGBTQI+ in the country.

There were solidarity messages from the traditional authorities represented by the Ga State and the Journalists Against LGBTGI+.

PIWC Kasoa Fire Conference

PIWC Kasoa ‘Fire Conference’ Begins

The 2021 Fire Conference of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC), Kasoa in the Downtown-Ofaakor Area of The Church of Pentecost, began on Monday, March 15, with a powerful ministration by the Area Head, Apostle Dr. Ben Ali.

Preaching on the theme for the conference, “Let The Fire Fall” – 1 Kings 18:36-39, Acts1:8, Apostle Dr. Ali stated that baptism “in” the Holy Spirit which is done by Jesus Christ (Mark 1:8) is an essential element that energises the believer for service. He added that without it, it would be difficult for Christians to function (Acts1:8).

He further explained that baptism “of” the Holy Spirit is the same as being born again, regeneration, new life (Matthew 3:11), and that without this experience one cannot qualify as a follower of Jesus Christ. This experience, according to him, is “non-negotiable.”

According to him, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are received by faith (Galatians 3:2). “When the Holy Spirit comes into your life, He gives you tools (gifts) to function (1 Corinthians 12:8-10),” he stated, adding, “These tools (gifts) are for the benefit of the body of Christ. The gifts of the Spirit are for purposes of helping the Church and not for self-aggrandizement.”

Apostle Dr. Ali testified of how his dead son was raised back to life by the power of the Holy Spirit working through him.

He stated that every believer receives faith the very day he/she accepts Jesus as their Lord and Saviour (Galatians 3:22). “Resultantly, you don’t pray for faith as a believer; you exercise it! (Matthew 21:21-22),” he pointed out, adding, “You exercise your faith daily by dwelling on the Word, studying the Scriptures, and committing to prayer. Precept upon precepts the foundations shall be laid.”

Apostle Dr. Ben Ali concluded by saying that “the believer must endeavour to constantly exercise his/her faith because the longer you live ordinarily like a person not born of the Spirit, the more doubts gain some grounds in your life, hence opening the door to fear.

“Anything done without faith is a sin (Romans 14:23b), so the believer cannot afford to live outside of his/her faith.”

This year’s conference which ends on Sunday, March 21, has the host minister, Pastor Isaac Annor; Pastor Dr. Felix Dela Klutse of Doblo Gonno District, and Overseer Jonathan Ebo Quaye of Domeabra District as other speakers.

Prayer Is The Business Of The Church – Pastor Tony Mensah

The Resident Minister of Pentecost International Worship Centre, New Tafo (PIWC- New Tafo), Pastor Anthony Kwesi Mensah, has urged Christians to continuously engage in the act of prayer as it remains the business of the church.

“The business of the church is not visitation; neither is it administration nor meetings, but prayer,” he stressed.

According to him, though visitation, meetings and other administrative works play vital role in the growth of the church, the success and effectiveness of these things depends on prayer.

“We cannot substitute a prayer for meeting because without prayer the church will struggle,” he said, adding, “If we don’t pray together, we cannot even agree on certain issues at meetings.”

Pastor Kwesi Mensah said this in a presentation on the topic, “Possessing the Nations Through Prayer” at the M. K. Yeboah Memorial Temple, Krofrom in Kumasi, on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in the New Tafo Zone during the New Tafo Area Officers’ Apostolisation.

Taking his key text from Luke 18:1-8, the Resident Minister underscored the importance of prayer in the “Possessing the Nations” agenda. According to him, prayer is the common way by which a believer engages God.

He further noted that prayer reveals God to the believer, saying, “It is prayer that brings the word of God to life.”

Citing the prayer life of the early church (Acts 2), Pastor Mensah explained that prayer is the life of the church and one of the four pillars the church hinges on.

He, however, bemoaned the lackadaisical attitude of contemporary Christians towards prayer and called on Christians to revive their prayer lives.

Quoting Mark 9:14-29 and Daniel 9, Pastor Anthony Kwesi Mensah pointed out that prayer curtails whatever problem and hardship one goes through in life.

He also entreated church leaders to resort to prayer when choosing people to serve in the leadership positions in the church (Numbers 9).

The 2021 Apostolisation of the New Tafo Area was held from Monday, March 1 to Friday, March 5, 2021, under the theme: “A Glorious Church Revived To Possess The Nations” (Ephesians 3:21; 5:27), at nine zonal centres in the Area.

Apostolisation is an annual programme instituted by the Church to equip and resource lay leaders in order to give them a deeper understanding of the direction of the Church for the particular year.

Children’s Ministry National Training Team Inaugurated(1)

Children’s Ministry National Training Team Inaugurated

The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, today, Wednesday, March 10, 2021, inaugurated the National Training Team of the Children’s Ministry to spearhead the effective training and capacity-building of child workers at the various levels of the church.

The team would also be responsible for the coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of the implementation of the ministry’s vision of “Raising Godly Children to Possess the Nations,” at the grassroot levels of the church.

The eight-member team comprises Dr. Ankamah Lomotey (Chairman), Pastor Peter Adjei (Deputy Chairman), Mrs. Freda Koranteng (Secretary), Pastor Joshua Appiah, Pastor John Afawuah, Pastor George Owusu, Deaconess Mrs. Julie Djaba and Deaconess Mrs. Comfort Azure.

The inauguration took place at a short ceremony at the church’s General Headquarters at La in Accra.

Speaking on the topic: “Paul-Timothy; A Father-Son Relationship” with 1 Corinthians 4:14-17 and 1 Timothy 1:2 as his key Bible references, Apostle Kumi-Larbi stressed the need for the older generation to make conscious efforts to mentor the younger ones.

According to him, it is not enough to impart knowledge into children but also to “parent” or “father” them.”

“Every leader should mentor those behind them. This is the only way for discipleship to take on the multi-generational nature described by Paul in 2 Timothy 2:2,” he said.

Apostle Kumi-Latbi advised the older generation to take a cue from Paul and Timothy’s relationship. He explained that Apostle Paul took particular interest in Timothy’s development and this was why he addressed him as “my true son in the faith” in his letter to him in 1 Timothy 1:2.

Like Apostle Paul, the General Secretary urged adults to draw the children close so that they would be able to influence them positively.

He also noted that relations between mentors and mentees must evolve with time. To buttress this point, Apostle Kumi-Larbi pointed out that “in Romans 16:21, Paul makes a profound statement about his current relationship with Timothy when he addressed him as ‘my fellow worker.’ This implied that Timothy has gone from being a son to a student and had now become a colleague and a co-labourer.”

“We spend plenty of time desiring and praying for more labourers, but perhaps we do not invest enough time in those with the potential to become our partners in the mission,” he further remarked.

The General Secretary, therefore, charged the committee as well as child workers to go the extra mile to creditably discharge their duties in order to raise the standard of the ministry in the church.

Present at the event was the Children’s Ministry Director, Pastor Prof. William Otoo Ellis, and his deputy, Elder Alfred Aidoo.

Chairman Dedicates Samuel Richard Asomaning Memorial Temple

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, on Sunday, March 7, 2021, dedicated the newly-constructed church building of the Samuel Richard Asomaning Memorial Temple in the Asamankese Area of the church.

The beautiful church auditorium, which took three years to complete, has a seating capacity of 1500, two administrative offices, a conference room, library/museum room, a storeroom, Information Technology (IT) centre, a room for lactating mothers, eight washrooms and a spacious car park.

Madam Florence Asomaninwaa was commended for contributing an amount of GHS 1,350,000.00 out of the GHS 2,158,360.00 spent on the project. The remaining funds were raised through grants from the Head Office, the Akim Oda Area, the Asamankese Area, and the Akroso District.

The Chairman was ably supported by the General Secretary, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, the Area Head, Apostle Isaac Ekow Eshun, and the Akroso District Minister, Pastor Anthony K. Obeng.

Other dignitaries present at the event were Apostle Samuel O. Asante (Executive Council Member and Koforidua Area Head), Apostle Seth Kwaku Asomaning (Akim Oda Area Head), Apostle Derek Kwaning Mireku (Agona Swedru Area Head) and Pastor A.E.K. Ekuban (Suhum Area Head).

Delivering a short sermonette titled “Keep the Pentecostal Fire Burning,” Apostle Kumi-Larbi stated that the history of The Church of Pentecost cannot be written without the mention of Akroso because it played a very significant part in the church’s humble beginnings.

He stated that it is incumbent on the current generation to continue to fan into flame the Pentecostal fire lit by the forebears of the church through prayer, rich apostolic teachings, and godly fellowship.

Using Leviticus 6:8-11, Acts 1:4-8, Acts 2:1-4, Acts 2:42 and Luke 11:35 as Bible references, the General Secretary stated that anytime God called people to serve His purpose, He often revealed Himself to them as fire. This, he said, was to indicate that God was with them.

Apostle Kumi-Larbi advised church members to make themselves available and dedicate themselves to God so that His fire will continue to burn in them as it was with their forebears.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, in his remarks, added that the beauty of the temple represents the life of God in the Church and for this reason, the church must keep on fanning into flame the fire they possess for the glory of God to be seen by the watching-world.

He further reiterated that the Asamankese Area and its environs serve as the location where the Pentecostal torch was first lit by the founder of the church, Rev. James McKeown, hence, they must not relent in fanning this great fire into flames.

The Samuel Richard Asomaning Memorial Temple is one of the historic buildings of the church which dates to the early beginnings of the church in the then Gold Coast. Quite rightly, the church has been named after the late Samuel Richard Asomaning, one of the key founding members of The Church of Pentecost and the first ordained apostle of the church.

Apostle S. R. Asomaning was converted into the faith by his brother-in-law, the late Rev. James Smith Kwaku Gyimah, who, according to historical narratives, was among the first persons to have received Holy Spirit baptism in the country in the 1920s. Rev. James Smith, then a Presbyterian Catechist, was disowned by his mother-church because he had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. His expulsion from the church caused him to start preaching the gospel message of Christ on the streets. His evangelism efforts yielded souls for Christ, one of whom was Samuel Richard Asomaning, with whom he started a small prayer group. This group later associated with the Asamankese group led by the late Rev. Peter Anim.

Following the infamous dissociation of Rev. James McKeown by the Asamankese group led by Rev. Peter Anim on the grounds of the “no-medication doctrine,” the Akroso group joined forces with Rev. McKeown and brought him to the town to settle there. At Akroso, Rev. McKeown started a fellowship at his residence in a suburb called Ataakwasi. Rev. S. R. Asomaning later donated a parcel of land where a small thatch was erected by the church to serve as its first place of worship. Thus, the church was moved from Rev. McKeown’s residence.

As church membership grew, there was a need for a permanent and appropriate church structure to be constructed. This led to the construction of the Rev. J. S. Gyimah Memorial Temple in 1975. This edifice is being used by the English Assembly of the Akroso District as a place of worship.

On July 13, 2016, the Akroso District received approval from the Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah-led Executive Council to construct an ultramodern auditorium in memory of Apostle S. R. Asomaning.

Madam Florence Asomaniwah, the only surviving daughter of late Apostle Asomaning, donated a parcel of land to support this cause. The land at the time was siting two separate buildings belonging to the Asomaning family and an old mission house. The buildings were, thus, demolished for the new project to begin.

On Friday, February 26, 2017, the then Akim Oda Area Head, Apostle Kofi Dzemekey, with assistance from Apostle J. S. Gyimah (Rtd.) and the then-District Minister, Pastor Anthony K. Obeng, cut the sod for the commencement of the project.

Apostle Peter K. Dzemekey and Apostle Seth Kwaku Asomaning also supervised the project at various stages of construction when they took over as Akim Oda Area Heads. The Asamankese Area Head, Apostle Isaac Eshun, however, supervised the final stages of the project after the Akroso District was ceded to the Asamankese Area in 2019.

In attendance at the dedication ceremony were Nana Kwabena Ofori II (Chief of Akroso), Hon. Joyce Korang Aboagye (Member of Parliament – MP, Akim Asena-Manso-Akroso) Hon. Mercy Adu-Gyimfi (Former MP, Akwatia), other opinion leaders of Akroso and the family members of the late Apostle S. R. Asomaning.

Christians Urged To Save Their Dying Situations - Aps Gakpetor2

Christians Urged To Save Their Dying Situations

The Anyaa-Ablekuma Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Kojo Gakpetor, has advised Christians to wake up and save every dying situation in their Christian life.

Addressing church officers at the Anyaa Zone of the Anyaa-Ablekuma Area as part of the 2021 Apostolisation programme, Apostle Gakpetor revealed that “revival cannot come when certain things are not done right. So, it is about time we sat up and dealt with all those things that are killing our Christian lifestyle.”

Apostle Gakpetor identified some of the things that hinder revival and church growth and also kill the spiritual life of Christians. He cautioned believers to be wary of such acts and make every effort to eradicate them entirely from their lives.

Among the things that retard revival, he mentioned, are when believers or the church loses the zeal of evangelism, when the church ceases to pray together, and when the church ceases to discipline members who sin. He said that God hates sin, so a church full of sinners will not see revival.

He further stated that when the church refuses to raise godly leaders, that church will eventually quench its fire. He, therefore, entreated churches and leaders not to trade on leadership, saying, “Leadership should not be bought.”

The Anyaa-Ablekuma Area Head pleaded with church leaders and Christians as a whole to eschew negative tendencies that will hinder the revival that they are yearning for and quench the fire in them.

Supporting his sermon with scriptures from Revelations 3:1-6, he implored Christians not to be like people who are generally seen to be doing well but in an actual sense spiritually dead. “Be watchful and strengthen the things which remain and are ready to die,” he stressed.

As a way of igniting the fire and getting the revival the church seeks, Apostle Samuel Gakpetor admonished Christians to repent from ways that quench the fire and live a life that will revive them.

Encouraging church leaders to be bold and take their positions to do what is expected of them, he stated, “Church leadership is a war, therefore, we must fight it and win.

“A leader must be vigilant and straighten all ways that seem crooked to ensure sanity in the church.”
