Your Sacrifices Would Not Go Unrewarded – Apostle Ankra-Badu

The Tema Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Emmanuel Ofei Ankra-Badu, has assured Christians that their many sacrifices towards promoting the work of God would not go unrewarded.

“Every aspect of your life, especially the sacrifices you make as a Christian, would not go unrewarded, and they would not be taken away from God’s records,” he said, adding, “The Bible was careful to mention the names of all those who visited Jesus’s tomb early in the morning.”

Apostle Ankra-Badu was speaking at the climax of the Tema Zone Easter Convention held at Chemu School Park, from April 5-9, 2023, under the theme: “Crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20).

The event attracted thousands of people, including members and non-members from across the Area. Various speakers ministered on topics related to the theme.

Speaking on the topic, “The Resurrection of Christ: My Responsibility to The World,” Apostle Ankra-Badu urged Christians to take up the responsibility resulting from the death and resurrection of Jesus, as God himself took responsibility to ensure that all that he had planned concerning the salvation of man would be fulfilled through Christ Jesus, and Jesus, on his part, offered his life as a ransom for many.

Apostle Emmanuel read from Mark 16:1-8 and emphasized that Jesus’s resurrection taught believers that Christ was undeniably God, that God had accepted his atoning work of the cross, that humanity would get a righteous judgment, and that they would be raised from the dead.

Apostle Emmanuel Ankra-Badu highlighted six critical areas of responsibility expected of Christians as partakers of Christ’s death and resurrection: duty, diligence, excellence, perseverance, accountability, and initiative.

He noted that Christians with good character are responsible people who do not shy away from taking responsibility.

During the convention, many souls were won, and several others received Holy Ghost baptism and healings. God encouraged his church through testimonies and prophecies during worship sessions—the atmosphere at the various zonal centres charged due to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Those present at the convention included Mrs Rosina Ankra-Badu (wife of the Area Head), Apostle Matthew Larbi Wettey (Rtd.), Pastor Alex Nana Kwame Oppong (Area Secretary), Pastor Dan N. Asihene (Tema Zonal Chairman), Elder Paul Kuwornu (Area Deacon), and other Ministers and their wives in the Tema Zone.

Ministry Excellence: An Honour To God

SCRIPTURES

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians 3:23-24).

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy— think about such things” (Philippians 4:8).

INTRODUCTION

I am inspired to write about this topic based on Apostle A.N.Y KumI-Larbi’s presentation on “The COP Brand” during the Heads’ session at the 2023 Ministers and Wives’ Conference. He touched briefly on ministry excellence as one of the Church’s core values, which must be held in high esteem.

From The Church Pentecost Ministerial Handbook, page 14, ministry excellence is when the church seeks, “…to honour God who gave His best (Christ Jesus as the saviour) by maintaining a high standard of excellence in all our ministries and activities.”

Therefore, it is evident that our visionary mandate to reposition the local Church for maximum impact in the nations requires ministry excellence.

I have, therefore, taken delight to study and reflect through the various locus of meanings and some strategic ways to achieve this core. With Jesus as our perfect example, four other Biblical characters are in view as I analyse their lives and ministry from the lens of excellence.

WHAT IS MINISTRY?

From the Greek word ‘diakoneo’, ministry means “to serve or to serve as a slave”. In the New Testament, Ministry is seen as service to God and other people in His name. The bridge of the secular and the sacred could be hinged on how excellent the ministry should become. Believers should come to the realization of accepting the secular noble professions they do as equally divine as those duties in the Church.

The medical doctor who diagnoses and administers drugs is no different from the Pastor who discerns the cause of the sickness and prays for healing and relief. Both seek same results yet by different authority of God’s wisdom and Power (1 Corinthians 1:24). Jesus provided the pattern for Christian ministry by saying that “He came not to receive service but to give service” (Matthew 20:28). This gives a clearer picture of the subject – that, one key component for leaders to achieve excellence is to adopt the servant-leadership model.

WHAT IS EXCELLENCE?

Excellence as a general concept can be defined as striving to be the best you can be and to do the best you can. In others words, it is the valuable quality of being excellent.

Excellence can also be summed up so as to make maximum impact in the life of people in the name of God. It is important to note that excellence can be achieved through the application of diligence. Diligence is the act of giving the matter at hand the necessary care and attention it deserves. In other words, the end product of diligence is excellence. Excellence cannot be achieved on average or from a mediocre effort (Proverbs 12:27).

The Christian pursuit for excellence should be to ultimately honour God who is magnificent and perfect in His ways. Secondly, God shall give attention to every detail at His just judgement. Since we know that we will one day stand before Him and give account of our ministry (sacred and secular), there is the need to be aware of His standards of judgment; His nature, word and our conscience (2 Corinthians 5:10).

The standard for excellence is therefore not to be determined by institutional policies but the standard of God revealed through scripture; that is what the The Church of Pentecost stands for. Conversely, sometimes, one may give out his best at the blind side of humanity and without acknowledgment. Notwithstanding, there is every assurance that God will reward your labour in the secret.

Thankfully, Christians have been aided to excel in all that have been entrusted to them. This is because God has modelled excellence through His perfect creation, His dealings with mankind, the ministry of the Lord Jesus and the communion with the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, since God has given us His best, He expects us to do same and not settle for the average or neutrality. It is either Hot or cold and not almost hot or cold.

The two scriptures above admonish us to strive for the best and give our all to God as He also gives us his best – the only begotten Son.

EXAMPLES OF BIBLICAL CHARACTERS WHO EXCELLED IN THEIR CALLINGS

• Joseph • Daniel • Nehemiah • Paul • Jesus Christ

These characters have been carefully chosen and studied because they all under similar but ranging opposing challenges were called to save a people through service and yet, diligent as they were, succeeded in excellence.

COMMON CHARACTERISTICS THAT MADE THEM ACHIEVED MINISTRY EXCELLENCE

• They were People of Prayer.

They prayed for everything. In the presence of the King Artaxerxes, Nehemiah was praying; Daniel prayed three times a day and was not even intimidated by the life-threatening king’s decree. Jesus, the Son of God, could pray all night. The Apostle Paul could not have told the Thessalonian church to pray without ceasing when He himself was not praying.

Therefore, the life of an excellent person is shelved by the aura of prayer mounted overtime. When prayer becomes a lifestyle, challenges will come along with their solutions. The enemies of prayer should therefore be handled with discipline and technique; thus, the CoP popular adage, “Prayer is the work and the work is prayer.” Complacency, Laziness, together with the difficulty of prayer should consciously be handled and overcome by your relationship with the Holy Spirit and discipline.

Christians are not to make anything valuable than prayer. With this, the road to excellence would be made straight irrespective of how crooked it may be.

• Good Planners.

Another important value of these characters is their ability to plan ahead of time. Consider Joseph and the dreams he had. The interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream and the 14-year national development plan he made for Egypt in less than a minute. Nehemiah’s plan and execution of building the walls of Jerusalem amidst the fierce persecution of Tobias and Sanballat. Every good leader’s excellence depends on having a good planning attitude. Time and space may not permit to analyse Paul’s ministry and how he planned his three missionary journeys.

James Baker, a former US Secretary of State, once said, “Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.” Planning becomes the roadmap to future manifestations. Failure to plan therefore becomes a plan to failure.

• They were Good Team Players.

All the characters of our discussion achieved excellence because they were also good team players. A team player is someone who has the ability to work with others irrespective of his role in the team. They don’t conflict with others on personal aggrandizement except for the good of the course. Jesus could mix with the disciples so well that not even his persecutors could identify him among the team. It took the kiss of Judas Iscariot to reveal him. Paul is read in his books and Acts of the Apostles several times moving with Barnabas, Timothy, Epaphras, Luke and others. Consider Daniel and his brothers, Nehemiah and the returnees. They portrayed a good model of teamwork. It is important to note that, even though they were good team players, they also supervised all other activities in the team for perfection. It is not enough to be a team player as leader without supervision. Man is naturally, forgetful, ungrateful and lazy. It demands supervision to put them on their toes for the good of themselves and the course for the goal.

• They worked hard.

Every Good leader should strive to be a hardworking person and not to rely on the issue of blame games, striving and contentions. If you want to get the best results you need to go the extra mile. From the parable of the great banquet, God is revealed as one who hates excuses and even gets angry at it (Luke 14:21). The subject of discipline always suffices when hard work is mentioned. It takes discipline in the mind, emotions and on the body to be hardworking. We should however understand that hard work is not enough without consistency. A person becomes relevant with hard work when he is consistent in it.

• They were full of the Holy Spirit.

As leaders, we need the daily leadings of the Holy Spirit. The routine should not be methodical but be inspired by the Holy Spirit. His inspiration may not be direct but through circumstances. Do not underrate systems, people and circumstances around you, for it is the same channels God can use to give you illumination into a matter. Jesus, fully God and Man, was led by the Spirit to succeed, how can a mere mortal man do without the help of the Holy Spirit?

• They were focused.

Nehemiah, Paul, Joseph, Daniel and Jesus faced opposition, yet their focus was never compromised for fear, failure, shame, hunger or even death. However, if the oppositions are not realistic do not worry about it. But when they are genuine, and expose your weaknesses and failures, be mature enough to use the opportunity to build yourself up. Joseph family’s intimidation at him when he shared his dreams made him stronger to stand in the presence of King Pharaoh to speak wisdom to him. He never allowed those intimidations and persecution to eat up his righteousness and gifts.

• They had an exemplary character.

They were people of virtue and noble characters. You need to live a holy and godly life. Any Christian or leader who fails to work on the weaknesses will experience shipwreck. The closer you are to God, the clearer your eye becomes, and it makes you see the reality of yourself that makes you humble. Those who wait on the Lord are not only renewed in strength, but He works on them till His nature reflects on them. You may not be so gifted but with godly virtues you will attract others who will help you to succeed in ministry. It is an easy way for excellence.

AREAS WE CAN EXCEL AS CHRISTIANS AND LEADERS.

• Assigned functions.

Basically, everyone has been directly or in directly engaged with some kind of routine functions for survival. We should be conscious of making out a great mark of excellence in every sphere we have been placed. There should not be a difference between the sacred and secular, private and public, personal and employed. Equal efforts should be applied in all situations as doing for the Lord. Precision and excellence should always be the hallmark. In the case of the preacher and the church worker, sermon preparation, prayer, Bible study, funerals, weddings, dedications and other ceremonial services should be well organized not only for results but for the beauty and the glory they bring to God and the church. Paul said, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart…” (Colossians 3:23).

• In our relationships:

We are all engaged in some kind of relationship; family, friends, church members, or colleagues at work. However, the basis of all relationships is the home where values and behaviours are formed. Much attention should therefore be paid to the marriage to make it an excellent one. The negative axiom that there’s no perfect marriage should be relooked from the lens of scripture. The standard should always be on how Christ marries the church and not how Adam married his wife. This could translate to the larger society. The reflection of the effect of bad marriage on society is the corruption and deviance we see in our various communities. Be conscious to make all your relationships an excellent one that will bring Glory to the kingdom of God. Romans 12:16 “Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited”.

• Communications.

Jesus said anything that comes from the inside of a man has the potency to defiles the whole body (Mark 7:20). Our choice of words and the magnitude of the negative emotions attached should be a cause of concern. How you address people determines their love and support for your course. You should learn how to efficiently use the horizontal and vertical channels of communication. At the workplace, reports to leaders should give a clear picture of what you have done or seen. Anyone who communicates in details and concise manner is loved to be listened to. Nehemiah was able to explain his worries to the King, Joseph explained Pharaoh’s dream to the latter and convincing. This is not to undermine those with speech impairments. The focus is on the subject of communication and not the medium.

• Work or Job.

Applying diligence to your work or trade is a success already determined. Proverbs 22:29 “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.” It is not always that your best will give you the best results but don’t give up, continue to trust in God for He has promised to help you (Psalm 37:5). There is the need to strive for excellence in your own work. The value excellence adds to work is that it makes your work attractive and thereby increases patronage. Everyone wants an excellent product. The artisan, fashion designer, the barber and all those who provide services are celebrated and patronized when they give out excellent services. The Man of God does not only need to achieve excellence because men approve it. It is God’s standard for assessing his success. The bride of Christ (the Church) is supposed to be without spot or wrinkle.

CONCLUSION

The best way to pursue excellence is to pursue God, and to reflect on his character. The reward of excellence is seen in the output of work that gives satisfaction. When we strive and achieve perfection, you can minimize criticism, shame and chastisement. More importantly, God approves those who stick to His standards and preferences. He will reward you. In the CoP, excellence is core to the ministry and should be seen in our daily and routine lifestyles and at workplaces. Orderliness that brings excellence to the church should be emphasized. Preparations toward opening prayer, worship, preaching and prayers as well as other administrative measures like ushering and protocols, finance and records should be made in order to achieve excellent service. The Local assembly should be repositioned for excellence.

To achieve excellence, the attitude of prayer, hard work, focus, the spirit of teamwork should be built in your communion of the Holy Spirit to exhibit exemplary life in relationships, duties, communication and work. If these things abound in our churches, the radiance of the glory of God will reflect on us also. Excellence is achievable. Strive for it.

Yennyawoso District Retires 10 Officers

The Yennyawoso District in the New Tafo Area of The Church of Pentecost, has organised a befitting retirement service in honour of ten officers who have meritoriously served the Church in various capacities.

Officiated by the Area Head, Prophet Samuel Tetteh Doku, with assistance from the District Minister, Pastor Charles Oduro, the service, which took place on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at the Yennyawoso Central Assembly auditorium, attracted a high turnout.

The retirees, comprising 2 Elders, a Deacon, and 7 Deaconesses, who served for periods ranging from 13 to 41 years, were each presented a citation, certificate of service, and an undisclosed amount of cash in recognition of their invaluable and committed services to God and the Church.

Speaking at the event on the topic: “Hold Firm to the Faithful Word for Maximum Impact in the Nations,” based on Titus 1:9 and Revelation 2:25, Prophet Tetteh Doku highlighted the need for Christians to hold fast and constantly rely on the word of God in all situations.

He outlined the relevance of God’s Word in the lives of believers, saying, “Our officers who are retiring today have been sustained by the Word from the day they believed until now. Therefore, we should preach, teach and prophesy the Word.”

Prophet Samuel Tetteh Doku commended the retirees for availing themselves to be used mightily by God and extolled their praiseworthy efforts in advancing the Kingdom business.

In attendance were Mrs. Victoria Tetteh Doku (Wife of the Area Head), Mrs. Gladys Oduro (Wife of the District Minister), Apostles Isaac Kwasi Amoako (Rtd), Johnson Agyemang-Baduh (Rtd) and Mrs. Agnes Adu-Amankwaah (Wife of Pastor Andrew Adu-Amankwaah (Rtd).

Bompata Area Donates to Missions

The Bompata Area of The Church of Pentecost has made a generous donation to the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Navrongo (PIWC-Navrongo).

The donation, comprising a brand new motorbike, a megaphone, a bicycle, and a bag full of new clothes and footwear, were mobilised by the Area during the McKeown’s Missions Week held in March.

The Bompata Area Missions Committee Chairman, Pastor Joshua Kwabena Donkor, made the donation on behalf of the Area.

Upon receiving the items, the Bolga Area Head, Apostle Emmanuel Kwesi Acquah, expressed his appreciation to the Bompata Area Head and Executive Council Member, Apostle Yaw Adei-Kwarteng, and the entire membership of the Area for their generosity.

The PIWC-Navrongo Resident Minister, Pastor Eric Asante, also expressed his gratitude for the timely gesture, saying, “Your kindness shall be an everlasting memorial.”

He added that “the motorbike and the bicycle will help us to effectively reach out to more schools in our weekly schools’ outreach, whereas the megaphone will enable us to speak to wider audiences.”

You Are Made For Good Works – Mrs Juanita Nuekpe Tells Women

Mrs Juanita Nuekpe, the wife of La Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, has said that before one could make any meaningful impact in society, they must be truly and genuinely born-again Christians, with Jesus being the Lord of their lives.

Mrs Nueke made this remarkable statement at the La Area Virtuous Ladies joint service held at Dr Thomas Wyatt Memorial Temple on April 22, 2023, on the theme: “Repositioning the Virtuous Lady in Contemporary Times for Maximum Impact in her Career, Social and Spiritual Life.”

She noted with scriptural references to Ephesians 2: 10; Matthew 5:14-16 and said every individual is unique in their make-up with gifts and talents. She stressed that they must become conscious of it and utilise it well before they can impact society.

She said every individual had been created for good works and as the light of the world.

“Just as Dorcas had a tremendous and positive impact in her community and came back to life when she died due to her good works, so must all virtuous ladies have maximum impact in the communities where God has planted them,” she pointed out.

She indicated that salvation is one key factor and genesis of impact-making.

“One should be genuinely repented and have the seal of God. Nicodemus’ encounter with Jesus highlighted the importance of being born again (John 3: 3),” she said, adding, “Beyond being born again, one must become a true disciple of Jesus Christ by loving, serving, imitating, denying yourself and making Him the Lord, husband and master in all aspects of your life.”

She continued with scripture reference to Colossians 3: 16 and said that to do greater works and make a maximum impact, believers must be filled with the word of God since it can save, heal and deliver. Also, they must spend time in prayer and fasting, have integrity and be mindful of how they interact with others.

Mrs Juanita Nuepke further noted that to make maximum impact, one needs to be hard working, saying, “Whatever you find yourself doing, work at it with all diligence as working for the Lord and not a man to obtain the reward thereof” (Colossians 3:23 and Proverbs 6: 6).

She advised the ladies to avoid time wasters such as spending a lot of time on social media and unprofitable conversations, which does not add value to their lives.

“Wear the garment of humility and avoid bad company, which will corrupt your life. Dissociate yourself from dream and vision killers,” she said, adding, “Be a solution to someone and not the problem.”

Mrs Juanita Nuekpe concluded by calling on members to be agents of change in their generation and generations yet unborn, just as was the case of the four daughters of Zelophehad who changed the law of inheritance in Israel.

“Until you reach the point where your absence is felt, you are not making any impact,” she averted.

The Area Head, Apostle Dr Dieudonne Komla Nuekpe, a cross-section of pastors and their wives, and the Area Women’s Ministry Executives were in attendance.

Don’t Denigrate The Good Values Of Our Forebears – Apostle Tawiah To Church Leaders

The Kwadaso Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle J.B.K. Tawiah, has advised Church leaders to be careful not to neglect the good values handed down to them by their forebears in the name of post-modernism.

Apostle Tawiah made this passionate appeal during a special program dubbed “Time with the Fathers,” organised by the Kwadaso Area from April 19 to 21, 2023.

He said that it was expedient for the present generation of The Church of Pentecost not to ignore the foundations that their forebears built through the leadings of the Holy Spirit with values and principles that, by conviction, they held in high esteem to sustain the growth of the Church.

To this end, he advised that church leaders strive to catch the Spirit of Pentecost captured in the saying “some things are taught and others are caught.”

Apostle Tawiah intimated that there should be a connection between the modern church and the fathers to bridge the gap and engender a smooth transition from the older to the younger generations.

He further opined that the fathers of the Church have given many reasons to believe in God through miracles, signs, and wonders, which were infallible proofs of the power and existence of God in the Church, like the twelve memorial stones that were gathered as evidential proof by the Joshua generation for their children. These stones, according to him, were to point the next generation to God’s visible presence as they journeyed through the Jordan River.

He, therefore, urged the current generation of leaders never to allow the values of the fathers to die in the name of post-modernism but to continually expose the younger generation to the history of the church (Psalm 78:1-8; Judges 2:10-15; Joshua 4:22-24).

Quoting from “Tell the Next Generation,” a publication of The Church of Pentecost, the Kwadaso Area Head revealed that the fathers knew the Holy Spirit, prioritised time with Him, and allowed Him to freely use them in the church.

He further stated that the fathers were known for demonstrating the power of the Holy Spirit, and sacrificial giving, as evidenced in the life of Mama Christiana Obo and others who freely offered all they had to support the then Church, and these should never be compromised in their time.

“Because of the covenant God has with the church, The Church of Pentecost will continue to grow through sacrificial giving as members continue to be blessed financially,” he stressed.

The first day of “Time with the Fathers” was climaxed with a passionate prayer led by the Pakyi District Minister, Pastor Peter Akabere.

The three-day historic event, which took place at the Central Auditorium of the Kwadaso District, sought to draw from the rich legacies, lifestyles, and experiences of the early leaders of the Church and the impact they made in their generation.

Other speakers included Apostle J.O. Kesse (Suame Area Head) and Apostle G.O.D. Debrah (Atonsu Area Head).

Cape Coast Area Dedicates 4 Church Buildings

The Cape Coast Area Head and Executive Council Member of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi, has dedicated four newly-constructed church buildings in the Cape Coast Area.

The buildings, two of which were funded through the Community Based Church Building (CBCB) initiative of the Church, are Suhyen Assembly (Ekutuase District), Peniel Assembly (Domama District), Emmanuel Assembly (Ahrem Agona), and Kyiase Assembly (Kissi District). They were dedicated at separate events held from March 17 to April 20, 2023.

Apostle Antwi, who also serves as the Coordinator for the Central Regional Coordinating Committee, delivered a sermon titled “The Church as a Family of God,” with reference to 1 Timothy 3:14-16 during one of the dedication services.

In his sermon, he encouraged members to see themselves as belonging to the family of God, which was made possible due to their adoption and redemption by Jesus Christ.

He, therefore, urged all and sundry to accept Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour since becoming part of God’s family only comes by being born again.

The Area Head further stressed that, as members of  God’s family, there are rules and responsibilities that Christians ought to fulfil.

Some of these he mentioned are: loving each other, praying for one another, bearing and supporting each other, eschewing selfishness, and payment of tithes and sacrificial giving.

“Those who are born into God’s family must be shaped to conform to the family norms, and trained to be responsible members of society, and these are what are taught as Core Values and Rules of Conduct of The Church of Pentecost,” he said.

Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi praised the various leaders and members of the districts for the judicious use of the Church’s funds and for their communal effort in completing the projects.

Present at the dedication services were a section of the area pastorate and their wives, some members of the Area Executive Committee, and the Area Women’s Ministry Leader, among others.

Trinidad & Tobago Organises 3-Day Evangelism Crusade

The external branch of The Church of Pentecost (CoP) in Trinidad & Tobago, under the leadership of Pastor Dr. E. Otu-Nyarko, recently organised a three-day evangelism crusade and medical outreach in San Juan Barataria, Trinidad.

The event was held in collaboration with the Youth & PENSA Ministry of CoP-USA.

The CoP-USA delegation, led by Apostle Dr. Michael Portuphy, Director for Youth and Pensa Ministry, included 15 medical professionals, his wife, Dr. Mrs. Cynthia Portuphy, and Pastor Fidelis Mensah of Kansas District.

Medical screenings were performed by doctors and nurses from the Pensa Ministry before the evangelism crusades, which were held in the evenings.

All services were offered free of charge, and donations of glucose monitors, blood pressure machines, eyeglasses, and other medical monitoring equipment were distributed to participants.

The Pensa Ministry also donated NIV Bibles and Tracts to aid in the evangelistic outreaches of the local church.

The presence of the Holy Spirit was felt throughout the event as musical performances and powerful gospel messages were delivered by Pastor Mensah and Apostle Dr. Mike Portuphy.

The sick were healed, demons were cast out, and 19 souls were won to Christ.

In another historic moment, six officers were ordained as Elders, Deacons, and Deaconesses of the Church by Apostle Dr. Michael Portuphy, assisted by the National Head, Pastor Dr. Ebenezer Otu-Nyarko.

The ordination was the first of its kind in the Church.

11 Trainees Graduate From Pentecost Skills Learning Centre

Eleven trainees have completed their three-year apprenticeship training at the Pentecost Skills Learning Centre, a vocational training centre constructed by The Church of Pentecost, through the Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS), at Temaa in the North-East Region of Ghana.

The trainees, who were trained in dressmaking, pastry making, beads making, and hairdressing, graduated at a special ceremony held on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

In his speech at the event, the Walewale Area Head, Apostle Norman Appiah-Danquah, who chaired the ceremony, said that the skills-training project began under his predecessor, Apostle Francis Yaw Adu, with approval from the Church’s leadership and supported by the PENTSOS Directorate.

Apostle Norman Appiah-Danquah expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, and the members of the Executive Council for giving the project their full support.

He also congratulated the graduands for completing their training and encouraged them to demonstrate the skills acquired with integrity and hard work.

The Area Head further noted that the Church is very relevant and essential since it is the shining light that repels the darkness of the world and the salt of the earth given the mandate to correct the ills of society.

According to him, for the church to make a maximum impact in society, there is a need to mobilize all skills, talent, and ideas from every community to provide solutions to meet the challenges of the current generation.

“This can be done as persons allow themselves and reflect the beauty of Christ in the work they do,” he said.

The Walewale Area Head ended his speech by quoting Ecclesiastes 9:10: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.”

In an exhortation titled “Repositioning Artisanship to Possess the Nations” with Ephesians 2:10 as scripture reference, the Kpangal District Minister, Overseer Aaron Annum, encouraged the graduands to depend on God, who is the master artisan, in order to excel in their respective fields. He also urged them to be truthful and work hard with all diligence in their trade as artisans.

In her remarks, Mrs. Sandra Asiedu, the Principal of the Centre and wife of the Temaa District Minister, assured the graduates that God is the first artisan. She encouraged them to reflect Christ in their work, ensure that they work hard, and put all the skills acquired into practice.

The Pentecost Skills Learning Centre was initiated by the Temaa District Minister, Pastor George Asiedu, and his wife, Sandra, to equip members, especially the youth, with employable skills in line with the community transformation agenda of the Church’s five-year strategic vision (Vision 2023: Possessing the Nations).

The centre currently has fifteen apprentices training in dressmaking, pastries, beads-making, hairdressing, and weaving, who are being trained by four instructors.

Stephen Ofori Amo Wins US Embassy’s Photography Contest

Stephen Ofori Amo, a member of the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Odorkor (PIWC-Odorkor), has won the prestigious “Capture the Change” photography contest organised by the Embassy of the United States of America (USA) in Ghana.

The “Capture the Change” photo contest is an initiative aimed at giving young Ghanaians a platform to showcase the impacts of climate change on their communities.

The contest received over 100 submissions from both professional and amateur photographers and was screened to ensure compliance with the competition’s rules. All photos had to have been taken in Ghana during 2023, depicting the effects of climate change and Ghanaians’ innovative adaptation approaches.

The top 15 images were shortlisted by six judges, including celebrated Ghanaian photographer Yaw Pare. The judges weighed photographic quality, relevance of the photo to the theme, storytelling, and the submission’s individual caption.

These images were posted on social media to assist the panel of judges in determining the top five images, from which they selected the ultimate winners.

Stephen Ofori Amo’s winning photo depicts a young child surrounded by the stark impacts of climate change, venting the frustrations of a generation yet seemingly ready to take action.

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer, who announced the winners ahead of Earth Day commemorations, expressed her delight at the quality of the submissions and the passion shown by the young Ghanaians for environmental issues.

The “Capture the Change” photo contest was part of the US government’s commitment to partnering with Ghana to tackle the climate crisis.

The initiative is a step towards raising awareness about the effects of climate change and the need for innovative adaptation approaches among young Ghanaians.

The winning photos and others from the contest can be viewed on the embassy’s official website and social media platforms.

Ofori Amo is a conceptual/documentary photographer and an art director who portrays different perspectives in his visuals with compelling meaning.

It is also worth mentioning that Stephen was the first runner-up in the “Documentary of the Year” category of the AGORA global awards hosted in Spain last year.
