Kwadaso Area Launches ‘Nation Possessors’

The Kwadaso Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle John Budu Kobina Tawiah, on Sunday, October 24, 2021, launched the Area’s ‘Nation Possessors’ team, which is an offshoot of the Home and Urban Missions (HUM). 

The Kwadaso Area ‘Nations Possessors’ team is made up of 53 men and women selected from the various districts in the area.

Apostle Tawiah encouraged the group to serve as ambassadors for the Church, HUM and the ‘Possessing the Nations’ agenda at all times.

He explained that the ‘Nation Possessors’ initiative has been introduced to augment the evangelistic efforts of the church towards the pursuance of the Great Commission and to rekindle the verve for intercessory prayers in the Church. He added that, among other things, the group is also tasked to pray for the Church and the realisation of the five-year strategic vision (Vision 2023).

On his part, Pastor Thomas Ayamboya, the Kumasi Sector HUM Minister, appealed for support for the activities of HUM and the ‘Nations Possessors’ initiative. 

With the support of the Area HUM Coordinator, Pastor Enoch Eric Okrah, and other ministers present, the Area Head prayed for and officially commissioned the Kwadaso Area ‘Nations Possessors’ team.

Present at the event were officers and the leaders of the ‘Nation Possessors’ at the area and district levels. 

Home and Urban Missions is a ministry of The Church of Pentecost which targets expatriates and migrants in towns and cities with the gospel of Christ. Other target groups of HUM are ghetto dwellers, prostitutes and minority groups.

EVACON’21 Opens With An Urgent Call For Aggressive Evangelism

The 2021 Evangelism Conference (EVACON 2021) organised by the Evangelism Ministry of The Church of Pentecost was formally opened yesterday with a clarion call on Christians to aggressively preach the gospel and intercede for lost souls in prayer.

Hundreds of patrons clad in EVACON’21 branded T-shirts from selected areas of the church in the Greater-Accra region thronged the auditorium of Pentecost International Worship Centre at Atomic in Accra for the much-anticipated event, whilst others joined in via Zoom at the various satellite centres situated across the nation. 

The three-day event, which is under the theme: “A Revived Church in an Aggressive Evangelism and Informed Intercession” (Ezekiel 37:1-10), was opened by the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, with assistance from the General Secretary, Apostle ANY Kumi-Larbi, the International Missions Director (IMD), Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe, and the Evangelism Ministry Director, Apostle Dr. Amos Jimmy Markin.

Apostle Dr. Jimmy Markin, in an opening address, said the season presents a good opportunity for contemporary Christians who have a desire for greater effectiveness and fruitfulness in ministry.

According to him, it is an opportunity for believers to rise for two basic activities – reaping (positioning) and weeping (petitioning).

“That is, making petitions through informed intercession to the God of the harvest to make ready committed labourers and grant access to reach people and places with the gospel,” he explained.

Apostle Dr. Markin said the urgent call for action is illustrated through the book of Ezekiel 37, where prophet Ezekiel is shown in a vision a state of people, who are non-responsive and completely dead, as dried bones in a valley. The people, he noted, were in a state of death, decay, lifelessness, and complete hopelessness – a physical state very impossible for any human intervention. ​

“When asked whether the dried bones could come back to life, the prophet’s answer was very human and expected. He responded that the answer is with God, but God in turn responded that the answer was instead with him (Ezekiel),” he said.

Putting this into context, Dr. Markin said that the whole world today is languishing in a valley of despondency because of sin and evil. It has become a postmodern society driven by secular human ideologies and other forms of human-centred philosophy, he added. ​

“The nations and their people have posited themselves away from God and godliness and are dwelling in all forms of unrighteousness and ungodliness. Due to this, the world today is abiding in a state of sin craze, untimely death, decay, corruption, lifelessness, and absolute hopelessness. They are like a valley of dry bones without hope and life. Can this awful situation be changed,” he quizzed.

The Evangelism Director continued that, just like God’s response to Ezekiel, the remedy lies in the Christian’s willingness to rise to the challenge as the mouthpiece of God and proclaim life (the gospel) to the dying world. 

The Chairman, on his part, reiterated the call for aggressive evangelism and intercession for the salvation of lost souls by charging Christians, who possess the Spirit of God, not to look on unconcerned as people perish.

He encouraged church members to actively participate in the evangelistic efforts of the church especially in November, which has been declared an ‘Aggressive Evangelism Month’ by the church.

“We should not just pay lip service to the ‘One Member, One Discipled Soul’ initiative. Rather, every member must make it a point to win a soul and disciple him or her for the Lord. This is our duty as Christians,” he urged.

Apostle Nyamekye, therefore, charged participants to go back to their various local assemblies and districts to teach members and rekindle their passion towards aggressive evangelism and informed intercession.

The Evangelism Conference, which also marked the official launch of the ‘One Member, One Discipled Soul’ project of the church for this year, is being held at various centres from Wednesday, November 27 to Friday, October 29, 2021, and would be climaxed on Sunday, October 31, with a Gospel Sunday Service at the various local assemblies of the church.

The Church Of Pentecost Organises Quiz Competition For 7 Schools In Afere

The Sefwi Afere District of The Church of Pentecost has organised a quiz competition for seven Junior High Schools in the Bodi District in the Western North Region.

The participated schools include Afere D/A JHS ‘A’ and ‘B’, Afere English and Arabic JHS, Suiano Anglican JHS, Krayawkrom JHS, Aferewa JHS, and Benumnsuo JHS.

After four rounds of heated competition in Mathematics, Science, English and Social Studies, Afere D/A JHS ‘A’ emerged winners of the quiz. Each contestant was given stationeries with the winners receiving cash, trophies, and stationeries.

The Afere District Minister of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor Daniel-Gyan Teye Henanaopeh, who spearheaded the event advised teachers to teach pupils the right values of Ghanaian culture.

The Headteacher of Sefwi Afere JHS ‘A’ school, Agyeman Simon, on behalf of the schools and the participants, thanked the church for organising the event which, he said, was a “glamorous competition.”

On his part, the Bodi District Director of Education, Mr. Felix Neetegeh Faatah, assured that the directorate will continue to hold quiz competitions for the pupils to prepare them for their examinations.

28 Inmates Of Ejura Camp Prison Surrender To Christ

Twenty-eight inmates of the recently commissioned Ejura Camp Prison have surrendered their lives to Christ.  Of this figure, twenty-seven of them have undergone water baptism to the glory of God.

This remarkable event took place on Sunday, October 10, 2021, when the Mampong Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor Samuel Kwabena Asare, together with his wife, Beatrice, joined the prison inmates for church service as part of his working visit to the facility. The Area Head’s entourage included Overseer Osei Mensah (Agric College District Minister) and Overseer Sylvester Avorgah (Kasei District Minister)

Exhorting the inmates on the topic: “You Shall Know the Truth” with scripture reference from John 8:30-36, Pastor Asare said that sin is the only thing on earth that keeps people in perpetual bondage, and this was why Jesus came to set captives free. 

According to him, “there are so many people in the world who think they are free because they are not in a prison [physically] but are perpetual slaves and prisoners of sin.”

He explained that the Israelites understood freedom to be the liberation from physical oppression because their forebears were slaves in Egypt before they were rescued by God through Moses.

“For this reason, after their deliverance, the Israelites thought they were no longer slaves; however, they were still under the bondage of sin, and this is the truth Jesus referred to in John 14:6 and Colossians 1:13,” he stated.

“Anyone who sins is a slave of sin. Hence, what sets one free from slavery and sin is the Truth, not the abundance of wealth, education, position, status in life, etc. Jesus Christ is the truth who gives us freedom from sin and slavery and the power of darkness unto light,” he added. 

He further stressed that only Jesus has the power to forgive people of every sin and give them lasting peace. Pastor Asare, therefore, encouraged the inmates not to allow their present situation to ruin God’s plan for their lives. He said God has deposited something special in them that is unique and beneficial to the world. 

The Area Head also revealed that the new converts would undergo the New Converts’ Class to help ground them in their newfound faith in Christ. 

After the service, the inmates pleaded with the pastorate to pay regular visits to the facility to share fellowship with them. They also requested for Bibles and other provisions to aid their spiritual and physical development.

As part of the service, ten inmates were appointed to serve in various leadership positions of the non-denominational church in the Camp prison. Also, prayers were offered for the 12 inmates who are due for release this month. 

The Ejura Camp Prison was built by The Church of Pentecost as part of efforts to decongest prison facilities in Ghana and promote the welfare of prisoners. The fully furnished prison infrastructure was commissioned and handed over to the Ghana Prisons Service in May this year.

DR Congo Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call On Chairman of The Church of Pentecost

Her Excellency, Marie-Jeane Wayikani Ukurango, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Ghana, today, paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost (CoP), Apostle Eric Nyamekye, in his office at the church’s General Headquarters in Accra, Ghana.

Speaking through an interpreter, Madam Ukurango, who is a Deaconess of the Church, said the visit was to formally introduce herself to her ‘fathers’ (the leadership of the Church) and to see the Headquarters from where the Church operates in over 100 nations globally.

She commended the Church for the tremendous role it is playing in the national development of DRC. She spoke highly of the National Head of CoP-DRC, Apostle Semenya Dogbe, under whose tenure, CoP-DRC is chalking many successes such as breaking new grounds in war zones and winning more souls for Christ. 

She also noted that through the grace of God and the instrumentality of the National Head, the church building project is progressing steadily. She, therefore, took the opportunity to invite Apostle Eric Nyamekye to the dedication ceremony of the building after its completion.  

Commenting on the bilateral relations between Ghana and the DRC, the Ambassador said that both countries have always shared deep ties and must continue to work together for the prosperity of both nations and the continent. 

The Chairman, on his part, expressed his delight at the visit. He was particularly impressed by Deaconess Ukurango’s unyielding commitment to the things of God and The Church of Pentecost despite her busy schedules as a diplomat.

He was also happy to hear about the growth of the Church in DRC and said that The Church of Pentecost, through its Missions Office, would continue to support the advancement of the Kingdom work in the Central African country.

“We are also aware of the [political unrest and tensions] in the country and will continue to intercede for the country in prayer,” he added.

Apostle Nyamekye also commended the Congolese Ambassador for upholding Kingdom values and principles in her political life and called on other members of the Church in the political space to strive to do the same.

He wished her well in her endeavours as an envoy in Ghana and revealed that plans are on course to establish a formidable French church for francophone nationals like her residing in the country. 

Apostle Nyamekye also assured her that the leadership of the Church would reciprocate her gesture and also pay a visit to her office to pray with her.

The General Secretary, Apostle ANY Kumi-Larbi, who was among the church delegation to receive the Ambassador, thanked her for the august visit and the glowing testimony given about the Church and the National Head in the DRC.

The Chairman also introduced the new International Missions Director of the Church, Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe, to the Ambassador, after which a prayer was said for her.

Her Excellency Marie-Jeane Wayikani Ukurango was accompanied on the visit by Elder Jonas Kabore of PIWC-French.

Prognosis Of Amnon’s ‘Trans-Sick’ Condition

When the Transgender movement started, most of us didn’t know the extent and magnitude of the problem at hand. Today, as they roll on some of their new faculties and departments, the world now realizes it is a whole institution with Satan as their Founder and Chancellor, the Self as the Vice-Chancellor and misguided Human rights activism as their Registrar. The founder’s name should strike a chord that this “Trans-movements” didn’t start today except that it is announcing, manifesting, and reloading itself on another level altogether. Per their definitions, a transgender person feels trapped inside a body of the opposite gender. So, a biological male can begin to argue she is a female who has been trapped in a male body. A trans-racial is also someone who feels they are white but trapped inside a black body and vice-versa. A trans-abled person is also a physically able person who feels they should have been born disabled. Trans-age refer to those who think they are either far older or younger than their actual ages. Then came trans-sick, which describes those who argue they are sick although they are perfectly healthy. One thing that runs through the few mentioned phenomena is the “I feel” phrase as touted by its proponents and adherents.

In the book of 2 Samuel, when King David became a “Trans-Uriah” after his lustful escapade with Beersheba and tried unsuccessfully to let Uriah go and spend the night at home, little did he know that he was setting the grounds for Amnon, his son to also turned a ‘Trans-sick” person because of Tamar his sister. 2Samuel 13:1-2 says, “In the course of time, Amnon, son of David, fell in love with Tamar, the beautiful sister of Absalom, son of David. [2] Amnon became so obsessed with his sister Tamar that he made himself ill. She was a virgin, and it seemed impossible for him to do anything to her.” Here was a son of David who had allowed lust to intoxicate him to the extent of being obsessed with his own sister’s beauty and wanted her in bed. Not finding a headway around his problem, he made himself ill, as the Bible put it, even though he was perfectly healthy. Amnon, in his quest to satisfy the Self, then turned into a “trans-sick” person who needed special attention from Tamar. Prognosis is a forecast of the likely outcome of a medical condition. This article attempts to do a prognosis of Amnon’s “trans-sick” state with lust as the underlying health condition. Having special advisers and personal assistants is not a bad thing at all. They become such an enormous blessing when their counsel leads unto the path of righteousness. Unfortunately for Amnon, when his adviser in the person of Jonadab saw his “trans-sick” mood, he further pushed him into his early grave with the counsel and advocacy he mounted for him. In 2 Samuel 13:3-5, “Now Amnon had an adviser named Jonadab, son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Jonadab was a very shrewd man. [4] He asked Amnon, “Why do you, the king’s son, look so haggard morning after morning? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I’m in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.” [5] “Go to bed and pretend to be ill,” Jonadab said. “When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘I would like my sister Tamar to come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare the food in my sight so I may watch her and then eat it from her hand.

Yes, the “trans-sick” mood Amnon chose to cover his problem of lust showed and drew on his facial expressions all day and night long. It was, therefore, not surprising that his cousin Jonadab saw him looking haggard morning after morning. When you feel that you are a female even though a biological male, you are most likely to begin depicting certain feminine gestures and mannerisms which has nothing to do with the genetic make of the person as created by God. It, therefore, has everything to do with what one allows the mind to communicate to them for a specific heart desire. Instead of helping Amnon come out from the “trans-sick” state, which was having a toll on his life, Jonadab rather counselled Amon to go to bed pretending to be ill. “So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. When the king came to see him, Amnon said to him, “I would like my sister Tamar to come and make some special bread in my sight, so I may eat from her hand.” (2 Sam 13:6). But for the counsel and advocacy Jonadab did for him, Amon could have been liberated by Prophet Nathan and the voices of God who were around the seat of Israel’s government at the time. Jonadab, however, advised him to go a step forward in that “trans-sick” mood, lie in bed and demand his rights to proper healthcare from David, his father. King David, unknowingly, fell for Jonadab’s counsel and sent Tamar to attend to Amnon. Even though Tamar could not have discerned all the ulterior motives of Amnon inspired by Jonadab, there were signals she should not have ignored and taken lightly. Why she happened to be the one picked to come and attend to him in that request to David is something she could have queried a little further. Secondly, he refused to eat after serving him the requested specially baked bread on a pan. That also should have rung a particular bell within her about the brother’s actual condition. (2Samuel 13:9). Amnon then instructed Tamar to send everyone out of the vicinity and bring the food into his bedroom alone, so he ate from her hand. Tamar obliged this request too, but this was the time Tamar should have realized Amnon had overstayed his welcome and boldly handed him over to a professional Doctor.

Homosexuality has been with humanity since the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. When our modern society began welcoming some of the vicious demands from their community, little did we all know that kind of patronage was going to be a long end-time battle of our lives. It is no more a hidden practice, but a fully-fledged LGBTQI+ protected and gated community today. If the acronyms even started with an “A”, we would have taken consolation that it would end at “Z” in a matter of time. Starting with “L” signifying a rather long journey and ending with a “(+)” sign suggests many more of its derivatives yet to unfold.

In 2Samuel 13:11, Amnon made a request which seemed unusual to Tamar when they were alone in the room. He initially started on a gentle note and said, “…Come to bed with me, my sister.” Tamar then decided to preach Israel’s culture and moral values to him, so he sat up and came out from whatever was coming over him. When that failed, she tried persuading his brother to reason up and think about the disgrace and aftermath of that act of incest on David’s household and the entire community of Israel. In my opinion, this was the fourth mistake Tamar made which landed her in the wicked and lustful arms of Amnon. He then overpowered, raped, and had her thrown out of his bedroom afterwards. When lust heats up red-hot, any attempt to gently negotiate and parry it off does not work. The only language it understands is to flee or confront it violently with every available strength.

When Potiphar’s wife caught Joseph by his cloak and said to him, “Come to bed with me!” the Bible clarifies that Joseph did not play the gentility and tolerance card. He instead left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. Joseph did not count on the Egyptian culture of the day but called the name of Jehovah Elohim as his principal reason for not negotiating with the spirit of lust. He said, “…How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” (Gen 39:9-12). Observing how some of our most cherished Ghanaian values and culture has ebbed away over the passage of time, depending on it at this crucial time of the day, will be shaky. On Christ the Solid Rock, we must stand because all others sink with time.  But for God’s grace and help, we all could have done worse than the LGBTQ+ community are propagating. As a Christian community, we, therefore, have no option but to show unconditional love to all who happen to be entrapped by that menace. We, however, condemn the worship of the human will as their idol and misguided human rights activism as the chief Priest. The Ghanaian Christian community led by The Church of Pentecost and other denominations have, therefore, responded aptly as Joseph did and which Tamar failed to do. Billy Graham couldn’t have put it any better when he said, “Sin is not a toy with which to play but a terror to be shunned”.

After Amnon used Tamar to satisfy his selfish and lustful desires, 2 Samuel 13:16-18 reads, “Then Amnon hated her with intense hatred. In fact, he hated her more than he had loved her. Amnon said to her, “Get up and get out! “No!” she said to him. “Sending me away would be a greater wrong than what you have already done to me…He called his personal servant and said, “Get this woman out of my sight and bolt the door after her.” So, his servant put her out and bolted the door after her…” How come Amnon did not have the needed fulfillment he thought he would get after raping Tamar? That is the deception and illusion the advocates of Proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values want the LGBTQ+ community to avoid. The Bible makes it clear that “Food gained by fraud tastes sweet, but one ends up a mouth full of gravel.” (Prov 20:17). The soul and spirit of humankind can never be satisfied with the fleeting passions of this world and the Self. One will almost always feel that emptiness without life in Christ Jesus because that is how God, the creator programmed humankind.

Today, the world is fiercely trying to brand those who rather seek the welfare and Liberation of the LGBTQI+ community as haters but tag the “Jonadabs” as tolerant and concerned citizens. Let us not forget that the Bible referred to Jonadab as a shrewd person. Celebrating People in bondage through Law who instead needs Liberation and taking proactive steps to help them through same; which of the two is a hate move? Is it not ridiculous that the latter instead of the former is what this world calls hatred? Those advocating for your celebration cannot love you more than those of us campaigning for your Liberation through Christ Jesus.

When Absalom learned of what Amnon had done to Tamar, he kept his cool but planned to revenge at an appropriate time. Two years later, Absalom also demanded his rights to enjoyment with his siblings from David, their father but had Amnon killed on that occasion. If you allow lust to turn you into a “Trans-sick” because of a “Tamar”, you may meet your “trans-happy” Absalom one day. (2Sam 13). Where was Jonadab, the counsellor and advocate for Amnon when he was suffering revenge from Absalom? Amon died and got buried whiles Jonadab was still enjoying life with the golden opportunity and possibility of repenting before going to be with the Lord. The prognosis, therefore, does not look good for all who allow the Self and its lustful passions to rule them in this  temporary life and the next life to come. I pray the LGBTQ+ community takes a sober reflection of their lives, allows Christ in their hearts, and instead be wary of the “Jondadabs” of our day whose advocacy for them instead pushes them further into the ditch before their time. Allow Jesus, therefore, to be the Lord of your life and He will give you the rest and peace this world can never provide for your soul.

Offinso Area Youth Ministry Organises Seminar For SHS Leavers

The Youth Ministry of The Church of Pentecost in Offinso Area has organised a day’s seminar for young people who sat for the 2021 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASCE).

During this seminar, the Area Youth leadership unveiled plans to keep the Senior High School (SHS) leavers engaged as they wait for the outcome of the examination.

Delivering the keynote address, the Area Youth Leader, Pastor Joseph Owusu-Boateng, congratulated the SHS leavers on their successful completion of the academic programme.

Using Ecclesiastes 3: 1-9 as anchor text, he stated that change and transition are constant factors in life that present opportunities and challenges to everyone. He identified change in association, different spiritual environments, exposure to a wide range of lifestyle choices, and significant change in roles as possible challenges they would face while waiting for their results.

He added that if this transition is not managed well, one may experience identity crises, loss of drive for future academic pursuits, anxiety and pressure to conform to worldly influence.  To avert these pitfalls, he encouraged the SHS leavers to remain in Christ, partake in activities of the local church and set boundaries for themselves while they wait for their results.

The District Minister of Offinso Newtown District, Pastor Ernest Agyei, on his part, encouraged the school leavers to sink deep roots in their spiritual life by using this season to engage in spiritual disciplines such as Bible reading and meditation, fasting and prayer, and solitude.

A third-year student of the University of Cape Coast, Dennis Appiah Akenten, shared personal experience of how he managed this season. He advised the SHS leavers to avail themselves to carry out voluntary services such as teaching in basic schools, organising reading clinics, and taking leadership positions in the local church where necessary.

In his closing remarks, the Area Youth Secretary, Elder Gideon Appiagyei, unveiled the ministry’s programme for the school leavers. These include mentorship, learning basic computing skills, beading, bi-monthly prayer and counselling meetings, and excursions.

312 Members In Makayili District Receives Free Medical Care

About 312 members of the Makayili District in the Yendi Area of The Church of Pentecost have received free medical care at the climax of the 3rd District Week celebration.

As part of the week’s activities, the District Minister, Overseer Jeremiah Boffour, and his wife, in collaboration with the Makayili Health Centre, organised free medical care for the members. The members were screened on Hepatitis B and vaccination, Malaria testing and treatment. They also checked their blood pressure and blood glucose levels as well as physical examination.

The beneficiary members were attended to at the Outpatients Department (OPD), Antenatal Clinic (ANC), and Child Welfare Clinic CWC).

The exercise, which took place at the Makayili Central assembly of the church, had 17 nurses including a Physician Assistant and two Nursing Officers drawn from the Makayili, Lepusi and Nakpa Health Centres.

Prior to the exercise, the Physician Assistant for Makayili Health Centre, Mr. Anthony Akumasi, and the Nursing Officer in-charge of Lepusi Health Centre, Mr. Ndonbi Tadigna Npuagyen Senior, delivered a health talk on the causes and prevention of Hepatitis B, which is a predominant disease in the Nanumba North Municipality. The members had the opportunity to ask questions for clarification.

‘Pastor Jonathan Kofie Sick Bay’ Commissioned

The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, on Sunday, October 24, 2021, commissioned and dedicated a sickbay constructed by the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Odorkor (PIWC-Odorkor) at the Church’s premises.

The facility, described as a first of its kind in The Church of Pentecost, is one of the three legacy projects undertaken by the Church as part of its week-long 10th-anniversary celebration.

The facility, which comprises a consulting area, nurses’ station, and a dispensary, has been named the ‘Pastor Jonathan Kofie Sick Bay’ in honour and memory of the late former Resident Minister of the Church.

Commissioning the facility, Apostle Kumi-Larbi commended the leadership of the Church for the project and encouraged other churches to emulate the laudable initiative. He said that the facility would provide medical care for members and also serve as a place where first aid could be administered before an ailing person is taken to the hospital.

The wife of the late minister, Mrs. Regina Kofie, who was also present to witness the ceremony, expressed gratitude to God and the Church for making the project a reality. She also thanked the leadership of The Church of Pentecost for the tremendous support her family has received since the demise of her husband.

Speaking on the topic: “Building Glorious Gates for a Glorious Church” during the Sunday Service before the commissioning, the General Secretary stressed on the need for Christians to examine their lives and repair any ‘broken gate’ that would oppose the collective goal of building a glorious church.

Using Nehemiah 3:1-32 and Nehemiah 12:39 as scripture references, Apostle Kumi-Larbi explained that when the time came for the Israelites to return to Jerusalem after years in exile in Babylon, they came in three batches. The first batch was led by Zerubbabel, who helped to build the temple of God. The second was led by Ezra, who restored the worship of the Lord, whilst the final batch was led by Nehemiah, who saw to the rebuilding of the 12 gates of Jerusalem.

He, therefore, inferred that in building a glorious church, Christians must first understand that their bodies are temples of the Most High God and refrain from ungodly acts that do not bring glory to Him. He further noted that, just like Ezra, Christians must also restore their worship life by ensuring that the relationship between them and God remains cordial at all times.

Dwelling more on the rebuilding of the 12 gates, the General Secretary said that broken gates expose an individual to the attacks of invaders (the devil and his cohorts). For this reason, every Christian must be conscious about repairing any ‘gate’ in their life.

He further noted that Nehemiah was able to mobilise his comrades towards a common goal, and together, they were able to construct all the 12 gates in a record time of 52 days. This, according to him, was because everyone was involved in the work.

“To build a glorious church and be able to accomplish what God has planned for us, there must first be the mobilisation of the people, then ensure that everyone understands and catches the vision, and also, we must all be prepared to put our hands to the wheel,” he charged.

Apostle Kumi-Larbi noted that the first gate to be repaired by the Israelites was the Sheep Gate. He explained that it represents the altar of sacrifice, stressing that, the Christian journey is a life of sacrifice. “The Church we see today is a result of the sacrifices made by our forebears. On the other hand, the sacrifices we are making today would be assessed by future generations,” he noted. He, therefore, urged believers to first offer themselves as ‘living sacrifices’ to the Lord and be willing to offer their resources (time, money, skills etc.) in advancing the Kingdom business.

The next gate to be fixed was the Fish Gate, which, he said, represents evangelism (soul winning). He said that the evangelistic aspect of the church is needful because God has called believers to make them “fishers of men.”

Expounding on the old gate, also known as the Jeshanah Gate, which was the third to be repaired, Apostle Kumi-Larbi said that Christians must hold on to the sound biblical doctrines that the forebears have bequeathed to the church and not allow themselves to be swayed by false doctrines.

According to the General Secretary, the Valley Gate, which represents suffering and humility, also signifies that the Christian life comes with suffering. In view of this, Christians must be prepared to suffer for the sake of the gospel and also humble themselves to serve each other.

The Dung Gate, on the other hand, represents sin and self-cleansing. This, he explained, stresses the need for Christians to do away with sin, and strive to work on their weaknesses.

Apostle Kumi-Larbi also noted that the Fountain and East Gates represent the Holy Spirit and the second coming of Christ, respectively. Explaining further, he said that Christians must rely on the Holy Spirit for strength and guidance in all their endeavours and must also be mindful that the ultimate goal of the Christian life is to make it to heaven.

The historic service, which climaxed the 10th-anniversary celebration of PIWC-Odorkor, was attended by Apostle Dr. Christian Tsekpoe, who represented the Odorkor Area Head, Pastor Felix Okyere Anti (Resident Minister, PIWC-Odorkor), Mrs. Roberta Aseyoro (Wife of the Odorkor Area Head) and Mrs. Gifty Anti (Wife of the Resident Minister)

The service also had some past members of PIWC-Odorkor present, including the Director for the Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS), Elder Richard Amaning.

The weeklong anniversary celebration, which featured a Prayer Marathon, Music and Drama Night and a Time with Uncle Ebo Whyte, was under the theme: “Building Glorious Gates” (Nehemiah 3:1-32).

Teshie-Nungua Women’s Ministry Organises Girl-Child Sensitisation Outreach

As part of activities to mark the 2021 International Girl Child Day, the Teshie Nungua Area (TNA) Women’s Ministry undertook a sensitisation outreach at the Teshie-Gonno Cluster of Schools. 

The Teshie Lekma 4 Primary and Kindergarten pupils were on the afternoon shift when the Area Women’s Leader, Deaconess Sophia Nana Arthur, and her team visited the school. The delegation also included Deaconess Harriet Owusu Agbenya (Assistant Area Ministry Leader) and some district leaders from the Area. 

In line with the theme for this year’s celebrations, the Area Women’s Leader sensitised the girls on menstruation and the benefits of menstrual hygiene. 

She mentioned that menstruation is unique to females, and access to the proper knowledge on the use and disposal of sanitary pads was necessary for the girl-child. 

Deaconess Arthur also stressed the importance of digital literacy and the safe and effective use of digital technologies. “Digital literacy is not taking selfies and updating WhatsApp statuses but understanding the ubiquitous technologies available to us and using them appropriately,” she said.

The ministry also donated exercise books, pencils, erasers, reading books, liquid soaps, sanitary pads, and food items to the pupils. 

The headmistress of the school, Mrs Ernestina Markine, received the items on behalf of the pupils. Together with some teachers at the school, they expressed gratitude to the church for the kind gesture. 

Mrs Markine shared some of the challenges school authorities had to deal with due to parental neglect, for which reasons she considered the items timely and necessary to meet the needs of the 21st-century girl-child.

In all, about 200 pupils from classes 1 to 6 participated in the event.

The United Nations has declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child. The day is observed to create awareness on the importance of adolescent girls and attempts made by society to empower and identify their potentials by providing opportunities for them.
