The Berekum Area Youth Ministry of The Church of Pentecost, in collaboration with the Area Women’s Ministry, has organised a mammoth conference for singles in the Berekum Area.

The conference, dubbed ‘Precious Jewel,’ was held on Sunday, November 29, 2020, at the James McKeown Temple in Berekum.

The conference provided an avenue for participants to ask challenging questions and learn at the feet of experienced Christian leaders. Facilitators at the conference were Mrs. Faustina Oppong-Peprah, Mrs. Love Nketia, and Mrs. Grace Fosu.

The main speaker for the conference was the wife of the Berekum Area Head, Mrs. Joyce Berkoe, who spoke on the topic, “Knowing God’s Will in Your Response to Proposal.”

Other topics treated included, “How to Propose Marriage to a Beloved,” “How to Respond to Marriage Proposal,” and “Chastity before Marriage.” The conference was well-attended by over 350 single ladies and gentlemen. Also in attendance were the wives of some ministers in the Berekum Zone.

There was a short drama to teach participants on the need to look out for partners of godly character.

Assin Nyankomase District Constructs Children’s Welfare Centre At Community Clinic

The Assin Nyankomase District of The Church of Pentecost has constructed a Children’s Welfare Centre for the Nyankomase Community-Based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) compound.

The project, which was built at the total cost of GH¢3,890.00, was donated as part of the Nyankomase District’s 10th Anniversary celebration.

The dedication ceremony, which took place on Friday, November 20, 2020, brought together the chiefs and elders of the Nyankomase Traditional Council, officials from the Assin Central Municipal Health Directorate, as well as ministers and members of the church.

In an address, the Assin Nyankomase District Minister, Pastor Brown Boachie-Yiadom, noted that The Church of Pentecost does not only exist to preach the gospel but also seeks for the socio-economic welfare of the communities in which it operates.

He mentioned some of the social interventions the church has embarked on in the country in the areas of health, education, water, and sanitation as part of its corporate social responsibility. He further outlined the key role the church played and continues to play in the nation’s fight against the novel Corona Virus pandemic.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman for the Anniversary Planning Committee, Elder Francis Mensah, said that the committee settled on the project because of the poor state of the old structure.

He said: “The old facility that was used for weighing and attending to children was not fit for its purpose. It was so open to public view, and the floor, which was not cemented, was very dusty. The need to give the place a facelift necessitated the choice of the project.”

Nana Kwaku Apotai IV, the Omanhene of the Nyankomase Traditional Council, in responding to the kind gesture of the church said: “The Church of Pentecost, since its inception in the Nyankomase Community, has always been first in all good ventures.”

He promised that in future expansion works, the Children’s Block of the clinic would be named after the Church. He encouraged other churches and religious groups in the community to emulate the shining example of The Church of Pentecost.

“Real revival is at the point of alignment of the soul to the moves of the Holy Spirit. It is the adjustment of the soul to the workings of the Spirit, the desires and promptings of the Spirit. Real revival is the alignment of the believer’s soul to the word of God; it is at this point when the soul says “Yes” to the Lord.”

These were revealed by the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, during Day Two of the ongoing 2020 Heads’ Meeting on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

This year’s Heads’ Meeting is being held virtually via zoom and at regional level throughout the world.

Speaking in a sermon titled, “The Call For Revival,” Apostle Nyamekye stated that revival is not carrying Bibles and singing spiritual war songs. Neither is it about healing and deliverance nor the shouts of joy in church or replacing benches with single seats in the church. These, he stated, could be the manifestation of or effects of revival but they are not revival in and of themselves.

“Revival is not an event but about people. It is about a certain kind of a man or woman,” he explained.

He indicated that the call for revival today means a heavenly need of a certain kind of people, saying, “If we are calling for a revival, what it means is that heaven has to meet a certain kind of people.”

He explained that revival is always about a certain kind of Christians – men and women who are heaven made and have decided to make certain concessions of their lives to live for Christ. He said that such persons are ever ready to do anything to defend the cause of the gospel even at the peril of their lives.

Reading from Matthew 26: 38-39, he pointed out that Jesus’ soul was overwhelmed with sorrow because of the sufferings he had to go through since God’s will for him was the cross [to die a precarious death on the cross]. The will of God for Jesus, he said, could not change because what is written is written. He said that althougJesus’s soul was overwhelmed with sorrow, he subjected his will to the Master [God]. It was a critical moment for Jesus – a make or break in his life.

Quoting from Luke 22:36-37, he stated: “Though Jesus had his passion and will, he had to ensure that what was written about him come to pass. Because of this, he subjected his soul to that of the Master. It was at this point that he said, ‘Yes’ to the Lord.”

“Brothers and sisters, if we are calling for revival, then we need men and women who will submit their will, mind, emotions to the will of God.

“God is constantly at work in His creation; He is always speaking and it takes a receptive soul to connect. When one connects, that is the point of revival. That is where all things are done in new and fresh ways. At this point, one sees through the lenses of the Spirit, their eyes turn away from everything and fasten on Jesus.

“Men of revival are sicked with the evil they see; they are vexed with the things they see and hear; they will rather die than to see evil perpetuate. Sin makes them sick. Their only passion is the glory of God. And when their soul is consumed with the will of God, they will do anything to bring back the glory of God. These men are scarce to find. They are the people who cause revival. They are frustrated by the evils of the world.

With reference to 1 Kings 17:1-2, the Chairman expounded that believers who cause revival are prepared in the closet and they are released to the world, and that when their souls are aligned to the Spirit of God, there is no hindrance to the overflow of the power of God in them.

He added that the bodies of revived people adjust to the effect of the overflow of the anointing in their lives and it becomes glare for everyone to see, feel, and hear the revival and power of God in their lives. “This kind of life is notoriously infectious. Just as one COVID-19 person can infest many, so also can one revived person and a revived church affect many others and many churches.”

Agormanya Area MPWD Officially Launched

The Agormanya Area of The Church of Pentecost, under the leadership of Apostle James Gabriel Quardson, has officially launched its Ministry to Persons With Disabilities (MPWD) to sensitise members of the Area and the general public on the significance of the new ministry.

The event, which took place on Thursday, November 26, 2020, brought together Persons living with Disabilities (PWDs) from all the districts in the Area as well as ministers and wives of the Area.

The MPWD is a ‘brainchild’ of the 5-year strategic vision of The Church of Pentecost dubbed Vision 2023 with the overarching goal of “Possessing the Nations – Equipping the Church to transform every Sphere of Society with Values and Principles of the Kingdom of God.”

Speaking at the occasion, the Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, Mrs. Naa A. Ofosu, advised all stakeholders of the society to embrace PWDs so that they would feel part of the society.

She admonished PWDs to judiciously utilize the supports they have been receiving from the Government of Ghana through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development.

The Area Head, Apostle Quardson, on his part, admonished ministers to meticulously commit themselves to the Ministry to Persons with Disabilities for the achievement of the church’s vision in the Area.

He urged the church to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all persons, including PWDs, saying, “Persons with Disabilities are souls that must be incorporated in the discipleship structures of our churches.”

Eastern Region Welcomes HUM Coordinator

The Home and Urban Missions (HUM) of The Church of Pentecost, a ministry which was birthed out of Vision 2023, is witnessing widespread growth since its inception in 2018.

In line with this, Pastor Gabriel Owusu Akyaw, formerly of Bulenga District in the Wa Area, together with his family, has been welcomed as the new Eastern Regional HUM Coordinator, to steer the affairs of the ministry in the region.

The welcome service was held on Friday, November 20, 2020, at the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Koforidua (PIWC-Koforidua). It was officiated by the Chairman of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Committee (RCC), Apostle Samuel Osei Asante, who also doubles as the Koforidua Area Head and Executive Council Member of the church. He was assisted by the Koforidua Effiduase Area Head, Apostle Daniel Yeboah Nsaful.

Speaking on the topic, “Reaching the World with the Message of Christ,” based on Matthew 28:18-19, Apostle Daniel Nsaful, stated: “Christ has given us a charge to go out to all nations and reach the world with the gospel message of Jesus Christ.”

He added: “The early believers were given the mandate to go out to the ends of the world and possess the nations for Christ, this charge now falls on us to reach our world with the gospel.”

He, therefore, urged the church to reignite every fading zeal and rekindle their lost passion so that they can reach the world with the gospel, as the early believers did, in response to the command of Christ.

“This is our core mandate, to save others from hell and destruction and bring them to the saving grace of Jesus Christ,” he stressed.

In attendance were Mrs. Elizabeth Osei Asante (wife of Koforidua Area Head), the Pastorate and their wives for both Koforidua and Effiduase Areas, as well as HUM Coordinators for Asamankese, Suhum, Akim Oda, Effiduase, Nkawkaw, Afram Plains, and Koforidua Areas.

Also present were members of the Restoration Assembly from Old Tafo Akim District in the Effiduase Area who were heavily represented to welcome their pastor.

A former Pentecost Students and Associates (PENSA) president of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Emmanuel Wiafe, has been adjudged Best Engineering Student of the University and the 2020 Best Engineering Student by the Ghana Institute of Engineers (GHIE).

The colourful awards ceremony took place on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at the UENR campus in Sunyani, during the University’s 5th Virtual Congregation.

Speaking shortly after the event, Emmanuel Wiafe expressed his delight with the awards. He also expressed gratitude to all who made his educational journey at UENR a success. He called on all graduating students to endeavour to persevere even in the midst of challenges, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Narrating his patchy journey to the top, Mr. Wiafe revealed how cumbersome it was in combining academic work and church leadership. “It hasn’t been easy,” he said, adding that, “but I always work hard and try my possible best to learn, no matter how tired I feel during the day, and today, my hard work has paid off.”

“With continuous learning and hard work, one is capable of achieving anything they set their eyes on. I don’t believe anybody was born with exceptional academic capabilities, but if you learn you will know.”

According to him, the four years he spent in UENR were nothing but a blessing. He, therefore, expressed special thanks to God, the church, and ABSA bank for helping him live his dreams. [ABSA Bank, formerly Barclays Bank, gave Mr. Wiafe a full scholarship from his second year till he completed].

Emmanuel Wiafe graduated witha Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and overall Best Engineering Student. While in school, he was the Evangelism Secretary, Brong Ahafo PENSA Sector organizer, and PENSA President.

The Yendi Area of The Church of Pentecost has held a day’s stakeholders sensitization workshop for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the theme, “Raising Awareness On Barriers To Inclusion For Persons With Disabilities.”

The event, which took place at the Saboba Central assembly on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, brought together the District Coordinating Director of the Saboba District Assembly, the officer-in-charge of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Leadership of the Disability Associations, members of the Church and the general public. A total of 130 participants attended the programme.

In his exhortation, the Area Head, Pastor Emmanuel Kojo Aidoo, admonished the participants to emulate the love of God shown to them by Christ (John 3:16). He stressed from Matthew 14:13-18 that Jesus Christ also demonstrated his love for humanity by willingly dying on the cross for us. Not only that, he said, Jesus also provided for the vulnerable and weary who had followed him by feeding them with bread and fish.

Pastor Aidoo encouraged the participants to show their love to the less privileged by meeting their physical needs as well. During the altar call, seven (7) participants gave their lives to Christ.

The Yendi Area MPWD Coordinator, Overseer Martin Ossom Boafo, took participants through “Barriers impeding access to the inclusion of PWDs in the society.”

The District officer-in-charge for the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development also treated the topic, “Government Interventions available for PWDs and how to access them.”

The Saboba District District Coordinating Director, Mr. Yakubu Jimah, praised the church for the initiative taken to bring together stakeholders to highlight issues facing PWDs. He used the opportunity to enumerate some government interventions available for PWDs.

Foso Station Central Auditorium Refurbished

The Foso Station District in the Assin Foso Area of The Church of Pentecost has refurbished and rededicated its Central Assembly auditorium.  

The magnificent edifice, which was refurbished at the total cost of GH₵598,109.22, is made up of a large auditorium (700-seater), offices, state-of-the-art equipment, and washrooms.

The ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, was officiated by the outgoing Area Head, Apostle Sylvester Arhin, who also doubles as an Executive Council Member of the church. He was assisted by the Sawla Area Head, Apostle William Ohemeng Kwakye (a former District Pastor of Foso Town District), and the Assin Foso Station District Minister, Pastor Kwasi Bukari.

Speaking on the topic, “The Inner Beauty of a Glorious Church,” based on 1 Peter 3:3-5, Apostle William Ohemeng Kwakye posited that Christianity is more than merely going to church. “It has more to do with representing and presenting Christ to all nations,” he said.

He called upon the congregation to spend quality time to develop their relationship with God just as the Church has spent a lot of resources and time to beautify the physical building.

He stated: “The character of believers should be beautiful and Christ-like. The church building is beautiful, therefore, its occupants must also have beautiful characters so that the church will become glorious and possess the nations for Christ.”

He explained that “there is the need for everyone to develop their inner beauty so that they can dwell in peace with others because the inner beauty acts as a moral compass that helps to differentiate between right and wrong.”

Apostle Ohemeng Kwakye ended the sermon by encouraging the church to read and study the Bible daily, pray, and fast, and live holy lives in order to develop a beautiful inner man.

In a brief history about the project, Elder Isaac Addai said “the project, which was first dedicated in 2013, needed to undergo major structural engineering to get it into the current state.”

The cost of the building was largely borne through funding from the Headquarters, Area and District Grants, Local Funds, and individual donations.

The Bawku Area of The Church of Pentecost has held a four-day prayer and orientation retreat for all ministers and their wives in the Area.

The 2020 edition of the annual retreat was held from Tuesday, November 24, to Friday, November 27, 2020.

The programme saw word ministrations from the Bolgatanga Area Head, Apostle Wilberforce Kwame Nkrumah Agyeman, the Walewale Area Head, Apostle Francis Yaw Adu, and the Bawku Area Head, Pastor Eric Kwabena Gyambibi Boateng. There were presentations by the Binaba Divisional Chief and a Nutritionist from the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital. 

Topics treated were “Being a Blessing in a Glorious Church,” “Don’t do what they do,” “Revival in the Desert,” “Loyalty,” “the Head of Goliath,” “Building Indigenous Churches,” “Ministering in Muslim Communities,” and “Becoming Effective Ministers within the Kusaal Culture,” among others. The November 2020 Circular also received full attention.

In his closing remarks, the Bawku Area Head, Pastor Gyambibi Boateng, charged the ministers and their wives to be a blessing in their various districts in pursuance of the “Possessing the Nations” agenda of the Church. “All ministers must become loyal agents of transformation to bring about revival in their districts and communities,” he stressed. 

The Bawku Area currently has 17 districts with 18 ministers.

The theme of The Church of Pentecost for the year 2021 is “A Glorious Church Revived to Possess the Nations” (Ephesians 3:12, 5:27), the Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has revealed.

The theme was unveiled during the opening session of the ongoing Global Heads’ Meeting held virtually on Monday, November 30, 2020.

The 2021 theme bears semblance to that of the 2020 theme; the only difference is the introduction of the word “revived.”

Explaining the rationale behind the 2021 theme, the Chairman said that the Executive Council after prayerful consideration chose to repeat the 2020 theme because of the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic which made it impossible for the church to effectively treat the theme.

“Since these annual themes are guiding steps towards the overarching theme, introducing a new theme, we believe, will distract the intended process towards the realisation of the “Possessing the Nations” agenda. In view of this, the Executive Council after a prayerful consideration has decided to repeat the 2020 annual theme for 2021.

“However, as we gradually recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and its related impact, we also see that the church globally will need a reawakening. We sense a sound of abundance of rain. For if we have experienced a pandemic in our lifetime, we should also experience a revival in our lifetime. Just as many have succumbed to the deadly virus, many should also be led into the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

“So, although we are repeating the 2020 theme, we are introducing one word into the theme – ‘revived.’ Thus, the theme for 2021 is, ‘A Glorious Church Revived to Possess the Nations,’” he said.

According to Apostle Nyamekye, topics to be treated this year would remain the same, but they would be treated with the intention to spark up a revival in the church.

This year’s Global Heads’ Meeting is taking place at the regional levels and blocs across the world. However, the evening sessions would be organised virtually via Zoom.

Taking part in the event are Area Heads, National Heads, Apostles, Evangelists, Prophets, Ministry Directors, Ministers on Secondment, and retired ministers, among others.
