Fifty-seven (57) newly called lay leaders, comprising 12 Elders, 26 Deacons and 19 Deaconess, were inducted as officers of The Church of Pentecost at the November Edition of the Achimota Area Officers’ School organised by the Achimota Zone.
The event, which took place on November 25, 2019, at the Achimota Central Auditorium, was officiated by the Area Head, Apostle David Tettey Tekper, who is an Executive Council Member and Chairman of Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Committee of the church.
Taking both the old and the newly ordained officers through their duties, Apostle Christian Tsekpoe, Coordinator for the School of Theological Education by Extension (STEE) at the Pentecost University College (PUC), explained that elders, deacons and deaconess, who are unpaid officers of the church, play vital role in the administration and the spirituality of the church. “They are the custodians of the faith and are called to jealously guard the doctrine of the church whilst spearheading sound teaching wherever they find themselves,” he said.
He charged them to give themselves unto prayer, visiting the members and upholding spiritual and moral discipline in the church.
Apostle David Tettey Tekper, on his part, entreated the new officers not to slack in their service to God and church.
He took his scripture readings from Exodus 19:5-6; 28:1; 29:1 and explained that Israel was chosen by God to show forth His glory. He said that God appointed Aaron and his sons and consecrated them to serve as priests unto Him and His treasured people.
Apostle Tekper indicated: “Through Christ Jesus, the Church has become God’s treasured possession and He appoints leaders in His own time for Himself and to carry the burdens of His people.
“Prior to service, one must be consecrated. We are being consecrated and ordained to serve both God and man,” he admonished.
Apostle David Tekper urged Christian leaders to understand that godly leadership is about carrying the burdens of people and serving God faithfully.
“God is not unjust to forget our labour of love in His vineyard; He will surely reward us and make us a blessing unto many,” he added.
Apostle Tekper led the ministers present to pray for special grace and unction for the newly inducted officers and charged them to impact the brethren through their services.
