New Tafo Area Donates Items Worth GH₵47,000 To Kumasi Central Prisons

The New Tafo Area of The Church of Pentecost has donated assorted items worth GH₵47,000.00 to the Kumasi Central Prisons as part of the church’s vision to possess the nations and be agents of transformation.

Led by the Area Head, Apostle Samuel Antwi, ministers and their wives and the Area ministry leaders, the items were donated to the facility on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

The items included 297 bundles of toilet roll, 20 bags of rice, 515 pair of sandals, 55 boxes of key soap, 32 bags of Gari, 470 pieces of local soap, 11 bags of salt, 10 bags of sugar, 54 packs of female sanitary pads, 200 tubers of yam and 155 loaves of bread, in addition to a cash amount of GH₵3,000.00 to take care of the medical bills of the inmates.

According to Apostle Antwi, it is needful to seek the welfare of people, especially the destitute and prisoners. This, he said, is part of the church’s mandate of fulfilling the Great Commission.

He said that taking care of the inmates is part of the church’s evangelism drive. Therefore, he said, such obligations cannot be left undone.

“It is our vision as a church to spread the Gospel to the nations, yet it cannot be done when the welfare of the people is also not measured,” he said, adding, “Jesus taught us to care for prisoners and the needy.”

Receiving the items, Assistant Director of Prisons (ADP) Christiana Asiedu, on behalf of the officers and inmates of the Prisons, thanked The Church of Pentecost for the massive support.

She revealed that such donations create the impression in the minds of the inmates that the society still cares about them. She called on other churches, philanthropists and corporate organisations to emulate the example of The Church of Pentecost to complement government effort in catering for the inmates, who were numbering about 1,947 at the time of the visit.

“We cannot relieve all the responsibility to the government. The national cake is not enough to feed the inmates as expected. Please, learn from what The Church of Pentecost, New Tafo Area has done and come to support us,” she said.

The wife of the Area Head, Mrs. Mary Antwi and the Area Women’s Ministry Leader, Mrs. Deborah Ntim, said Vision 2023 positions the church to help the needy in society and assist them in an effort to be agents of transformation.

The team went to both the male and female prisons to preach the Gospel of Christ to the inmates.
