Couple Constructs Church Building For Avega Assembly

Mr Samuel Anso Yevu and his wife, Martha, both of Kpoeta Central Assembly of The Church of Pentecost, have single-handedly constructed a church building for the Avega Assembly in the Kpoeta District of the Hohoe Area.

According to Mrs Yevu, a Deaconess of the Church, the Lord laid it on their hearts to put up a church building and later settled on Avega as the beneficiary assembly.

Consequently, the couple bought a plot of land and commenced the project until its completion. Mr and Mrs Yevu are, however, reluctant to reveal the total amount spent on the project, saying: “That is between God and us.”

The church building was dedicated on Thursday, November 18, 2021, by the Hohoe Area Head, Apostle Moses Ahiakor, with assistance from the Kpoeta District Minister, Pastor Emmanuel N Gordor.

The Area Head, ministers, ministers’ wives, and the others present at the event expressed joy at the benevolent gesture.

Israeli Embassy Partners The Church Of Pentecost To Transform Irrigation Farming In Ghana

The Israeli Embassy in Ghana, in collaboration with The Church of Pentecost, is poised to change the face of irrigation farming in Ghana with the introduction of a new technology called N-Drip.

The ground-breaking gravity micro-irrigation system was developed by Professor Uri Shani, Israel’s former Water Commissioner and one of the world’s top water experts in water and irrigation.

A team of officials from the Israeli Embassy in Ghana was at the Headquarters of The Church of Pentecost on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, to interact with the Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, as part of plans to introduce the technology to the church and begin a pilot project in Ghana since the church has already commenced a 10-acre solar-powered irrigation farm project at Ankpaliga, near Bawku in the Upper East Region.

The team from the Israeli Embassy include Ayelet Levin Karp (Head of Trade and Economic Mission at the Israeli Embassy in Ghana), Kirk Amoah (Business Development Manager: Agriculture, WaterTech and Infrastructure of Israeli Embassy in Ghana), Jacques Blinbaum (CEO of ViPit Africa Ltd), Richard Nunekpeku (Managing, Sustineri Attorneys) and Elder Emmanuel Nyarko-Tetteh of UNICEF.

The church was represented by the Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye; Director of Pentecost Men’s Ministry (PEMEM), Apostle Vincent Anane Denteh, his deputy Elder Dr. Ebenezer Asamoah Nyarkoh; National Secretary, Elder Stephen Djaba, and Pastor Clement Achim Gyimah, National Executive Committee Member of PEMEM.

Others were Pastor Prof. William Otoo Ellis (Children’s Director), and Elder Richard Amaning (Director of Pentecost Social Services  (PENTSOS).

Introducing the N-Drip system to the church, Jacques Blinbaum, the lead proponent of the technology, said the new technology is the most efficient alternative to flood irrigation that will vastly influence farming globally.

He indicated that N-Drip uses existing infrastructure and gravitational force for energy, making irrigation efficient at no additional cost, saying, “this technology is the breakthrough that can significantly change the global water shortage.”

According to him, the system provides an easy-to-install economic solution that uses the field’s existing infrastructure and is powered by gravity. As a result, he said, water flows efficiently using sustainable energy while lowering labour costs and money spent on fertilizers.

Expressing his delight about the visit, Apostle Eric Nyamekye thanked God for bringing the team and the technology to Ghana and Africa in general. According to him, the Church started a discussion with the former Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Shani Cooper, to tap from the Israeli expertise in irrigation and agriculture to support the church’s irrigation projects.

“We are a church with over three million people in Ghana, majority of whom are rural dwellers, poor and farmers. We are looking at how we can improve their livelihoods so that they don’t rush to the urban centres in search of jobs which are not available,” he stated.

He continued: “As a church, we are determined to do what we can to help these people and even for the development of the whole nation. So, we have gone out of our way to building prisons for the Ghana Prisons Service to address the deplorable conditions of our prisons and provide other social interventions. Our concentration now is on agriculture,” he stated.

Apostle Nyamekye said that besides the various social interventions the church has provided, it wants to educate its members in the agriculture sector to adopt modern farming practices to increase their yields since most of them depend on rainfed agriculture.

He said that the church, through its social services wing, Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS), is leading an irrigation project in Afram Plains and Bawku Areas, where it has acquired large tracks of land and built irrigation facilities to help members engage in all-year-round farming. He was of the view that, N-Drip will help accelerate the church’s agriculture agenda by way of enhancing the outputs of farmers.

“We want to partner with you [Israeli Embassy] to help the poor in the country. We cannot always tell the poor about heaven; we have to be concerned about their well-being as well,” he said.

The Head of Trade and Economic Mission at the Israeli Embassy, Ayelet Levin Karp, said the meeting formed part of the continuous relationship that the Embassy has established with The Church of Pentecost. She noted that the technology could be a game-changer for small-holder farmers in Ghana.

Richard Nunekpeku, a member of the team, said over the years, farmers have to invest not only in irrigation technology but also in other sources of energy to be able to power the technology to irrigate their farms.

But with N-Drip, he said, “you do not have to invest into any other energy source, adding that, “all you need to do is to ensure that water gets to your tank and flows through the tubes by gravity.”

“It saves the farmer cost of pumping water and irrigating the farm. It also ensures efficient use of water and increases the yield farmers get on their farms,” he disclosed.

He added: “The beautiful thing about this technology is that it has been customized to one-acre size self-help installation. So, the ideal farmer in mind is the small-holder farmer in the village.”

IMD Grateful To Gbegbeyise District For Missions Support

The International Missions Director (IMD) of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang-Bekoe, has commended the Gbegbeyise District in the Dansoman Area for their support towards Missions work.

Apostle Bekoe said this today when he received three brand new motorbikes on behalf of the Missions Office from the Gbegbesiye District Minister, Pastor Vincent Donkoh, during a brief presentation ceremony at the Church’s Headquarters at La in Accra.

The items were given to the students at a short presentation ceremony at the centre on Monday.

Presenting the items on behalf of the Church, the District Secretary, Elder Ezekiel Abban Teye, explained that donation to BECE candidates is an annual initiative of the Youth Ministry of the district; however, this year’s donation was organised in partnership with the Women’s Ministry and the Schools Outreach Ministry (SOM).

He encouraged the candidates not to entertain fear and panic, but to face the examination with confidence and to trust the Lord to see them through successfully.

“We wish you success in the exams and prosperity in life,” he added.

He took the opportunity to invite the candidates to a special event being organised by the district for all final year students, dubbed the “BECE Night.” The event, he said, is scheduled to take place on Friday at the church auditorium of the Asutsuare Central Assembly.

According to him, the event is being organised to grant the candidates the opportunity to thank God for successfully seeing them through their basic education. As part of the event, the candidates would be oriented about leading godly and purpose-driven lives as they begin life after school, he further indicated.

The Shai Osudoku District Director of Education, Mrs. Harriet Lomotey, who received the items on behalf of the centre, thanked the church for the kind gesture and advised the candidates to be of good behaviour throughout the exam period in order not to bring their schools into disrepute.

The candidates also demonstrated their appreciation to the church with a rousing hand of applause.

In attendance were Elder James Tetteh Tawiah (Agormanya Area Youth Ministry Secretary/ District Youth Ministry Leader), Elder Richard Anim (District Youth Ministry Secretary), Elder Foster Blankson (Assistant Youth Ministry Leader), Deaconess Esther Amanor (Assistant Women’s Ministry Leader), Deaconess Beatrice Noi, Deaconess Joyce Martey and other members of the District Women’s Ministry Executive Committee.

HEADS MEET

Missions Office Organises Seminar For National Heads

The International Missions Office has organised a training programme for national heads in the external branches of The Church of Pentecost on the back of the recently-held November Heads’ Meeting.

The event, which is in fulfilment of the Church’s Vision 2023, was held yesterday at the Pentecost Pension House, Gbawe, under the theme: “A Missionary Revived To Possess The Nations” (Ephesians 5:27; Ephesians 3:10).

The main facilitators for the event were the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the General Secretary, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, and the International Missions Director (IMD), Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe.

Other facilitators were the Pentecost Men’s Ministry (PEMEM) Director and Executive Council Member of the Church, Apostle Vincent Anane Denteh, and the Finance and Administration Director (FAD), Apostle Lawrence Otu Nyarko.

In his closing address, Apostle Eric Nyamekye advised participants to endeavour to apply all that they had received at the event.

He urged them to emulate Apostle Paul’s unreserved determination to serve the Lord and to commit themselves to the work of God even at the peril of their lives.

“It is a choice to serve the Lord. So, go all out for Christ!” the Chairman charged.

He also encouraged the missionaries to keep working wholeheartedly for the Lord and trust Him to cater to their needs.

In his presentation, Apostle Kumi-Larbi advised the participants to familiarise themselves with the policies of the Church and strive to uphold them. He noted that as National Heads they must act as role models to officers and members of the Church in adhering to the financial policies of the Church.

According to Apostle Agyemang Bekoe, the seminar was organised for capacity-building purposes and to provide missionaries an avenue to engage the leadership of the Church on issues that are peculiar to their respective nations.

Some of the topics handled at the event were “Knowing & Implementing Church Policies,” “Financial Issues of Concern,” “New Mission Trends,” and “Missions Perspective Document.”
