HUM Leadership Strategises Towards “Possessing the Nations”

Apostle Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo, the National Coordinator for the Home and Urban Missions (HUM) of The Church of Pentecost, led a one-day meeting with the National Executive Committee on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at The Church of Pentecost Missions Transit Quarters in East Legon, Accra.

The session, centred on the theme “Lessons from Colossians,” emphasised unity and dedication towards the “Possessing the Nations” agenda.

Drawing from Colossians 4:7–15 and 17, Apostle Kwafo highlighted the exemplary lives of biblical figures to inspire modern-day ministry.

He began with Tychicus, whose close relationship with the apostle Paul and dedication to ministry serve as a model for current leaders. Apostle Kwafo urged the committee to emulate Tychicus’ commitment and fervor.

Reflecting on Onesimus, once a runaway, now described by Paul as a “faithful and beloved brother,” Apostle Kwafo emphasised the transformative power of ministry.

He expressed hope that today’s converts would experience similar positive transformations, leaving their pasts behind to embrace new, faithful roles within the church.

The HUM Coordinator also mentioned other notable figures like Aristarchus, Mark, Jesus (Justus), and Epaphras, who supported Paul while maintaining their professional commitments.

He highlighted their collaborative efforts as crucial for achieving the common goal of “possessing the nations.”

Apostle Kwafo particularly commended Epaphras for his hard work, urging Christians to strive for such dedication that their leaders would vouch for them.

Finally, Apostle Kwafo spoke about Archippus, encouraging him to continue and expand his ministry.

He interpreted Paul’s message as an exhortation to give one’s utmost in ministry, aligning with the church’s broader mission.

In his closing remarks, Apostle Kwafo prayed for the leaders, asking for divine strength and guidance to fulfill their roles effectively and contribute to the church’s mission of possessing the nations.

He underscored the importance of hard work, faithfulness, and a unified approach to achieving the church’s objectives.

Apostle Kwafo Promotes HUM & Inclusive Evangelism

As part of his two-day working visit to the Winneba Area, Apostle Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo, the Home and Urban Missions (HUM) Coordinator of The Church of Pentecost, engaged with church leaders to elaborate on the mission and scope of HUM.

The meeting, held at the Hallelujah Temple on Friday, June 2, 2024, convened officers and HUM workers from the Area, District, and Local levels in the Winneba and Awutu Beraku Zones.

According to Apostle Kwafo, the main purpose for the visit was to clarify HUM’s mission and encourage stakeholders to commit to reaching its target groups.

He commenced the session with a devotion from Colossians 4:5, urging attendees to maximise their time for evangelism, as opportunities may not always be available.

Apostle Kwafo shared insights into the evolution of traditional ministries within the church, highlighting that these initiatives were divine interventions placed on the hearts of the church’s founders.

Similarly, he explained that the church has established new ministry interventions such as HUM to cater to specific target groups, underscoring the importance of integrating these new ministries into the existing church framework.

Reading from Psalm 22:27–28, Apostle Kwafo stressed that every person on earth will eventually turn to the Lord, as God reigns over the world. He emphasized that the realisation of this vision involves reaching out to specific groups to enable the global spread of the gospel.

The HUM model, he explained, focuses on expatriates, African migrants, Northern migrants to the south, Unreached People Groups (UPGs), and the urban poor and marginalised. Apostle Kwafo outlined practical steps for local leadership to strengthen their efforts, including organising regular meetings and training sessions.

He discouraged the random selection of non-HUM workers for HUM-specific meetings and emphasized that HUM officers should not be labeled based on the target group’s activities.

Apostle Daniel Nii Tetteh Tackie, the Area Head, reinforced the importance of the ministry, urging ministers to strive for its success as they will one day assume leadership roles.

He encouraged Christians to wholeheartedly preach the gospel, acknowledging the challenges but asserting that God’s support will prevail.

He called on officers and members to support HUM and avoid derogatory remarks towards those dedicated to the ministry, instead urging them to step out of their comfort zones to reach the marginalised.

In attendance were Apostle Daniel Nii Tetteh Tackie (Area Head), Pastor Emmanuel Foster Asamoah (HUM NEC Member and District Minister, Abasraba), Pastor Solomon Anderson (Ashaiman Sector HUM Pastor), Overseer Daniel Adu (Area HUM Coordinator), and a cross-section of ministers and their spouses from the area.

HUM Coordinator Embarks On Working Visit To Winneba Area

The Home and Urban Missions (HUM) Coordinator of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo, conducted a two-day working visit to the Winneba Area, meeting with the Apam zone on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at McKeown Temple, Apam.

During his address to church officers and HUM workers, Apostle Kwafo drew from John 3:16–17, urging the audience to replace the word “world” with any of the HUM target groups. This exercise aimed to highlight God’s universal love and Jesus’ mission for all, including marginalized groups such as prostitutes and “wee” smokers.

Apostle Kwafo emphasised that the gospel is intended for everyone, and each soul requires a unique approach to be reached effectively.

He noted that while traditional methods have drawn in certain groups, we must tailor our methods to their unique contexts to win specific target groups.

He stressed that preachers accepted by specific groups would also have their messages received.

Apostle Kwafo elaborated on HUM’s mission to reach foreign nationals, African migrants, northerners in the south, unreached people groups (including Fulani, Mamprusi, Kotokoli, and Anafu), as well as the urban poor and marginalised, such as street children and “wee” smokers.

To run HUM successfully, Apostle Kwafo called for strong leadership at all levels. He emphasised the importance of planning, organising, and disciplining converts, as well as maintaining thorough reporting.

Additionally, he suggested organising training sessions for leaders every two months, preparing annual plans, holding mid-year and end-of-year meetings, and promoting HUM paraphernalia like T-shirts for gospel Sunday meetings.

The Area Head for Winneba, Apostle Daniel Nii Tetteh Tackie, also reiterated the importance of reaching out to the HUM target groups. He noted that Jesus Christ was crucified on the outskirts of Jerusalem, where the marginalized were kept, and encouraged everyone to put in their maximum efforts, as evangelism is God’s heartbeat.

Present at the meeting were Pastors Emmanuel Foster Asamoah (National HUM Executive Committee Member and District Minister for Abasraba), Michael Awuni (Area Secretary and District Minister for Mumford), Bismark Aidan (Apam District), Overseer Daniel Adu (Area HUM Coordinator and District Minister for Gomoa Kyiren), and some ministers’ wives.

Lungu South Chief Lauds The Church Of Pentecost For Giving Them Church Building web

Lungu South Chief Lauds The Church Of Pentecost For Giving Them Church Building

The chiefs and people of Lungu South, near Bongo in the Upper East Region, have commended The Church of Pentecost for putting up a beautiful church building for the people of the community to worship God.

The chief of the community, Naba Amunga-Lungu, together with the Bolgatanga Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle David Amankwaa, on June 7, 2024, cut the tape to commission the Community-Based Church Building (CBCB) at the cost GHS 105,000.00.

Naba Amunga-Lungu seized the opportunity to appeal to the Area Head and the leadership of The Church of Pentecost to release funds for another church building to be constructed on a piece of land he has donated to the church around the palace so that he and his family members and kinsmen can have a nice place to worship God.

The Lungu South assembly in the Bongo District of the Bolgatanga Area of The Church of Pentecost was opened 23 years ago, thus in 2001 during the tenure of the late Pastor David Azagisiya. The members initially fellowshipped at the Father Lebel Memorial R/C Primary School, with Brother Francis Amogre Atinga (now a pastor in charge of the Bukere District in the Bolgatanga Area) as its first presiding officer.

The assembly grew in membership under the following district ministers – the late Pastor David Azagisiya, Pastor Fred Obboh, Pastor Thomas Anane, Pastor Peter Blood Asante Afful and currently, Pastor Evans Kwasi Bawomia, with the following as the presiding officers – Francis Amogre Atinga (now a pastor), Elder Isaac Abongo Adongo, Elder James Atanga and Elder Titus Amogre.

The construction of the church building began in 2018 during the tenure of Pastor Peter Blood Asante Afful, when a CBCB grant was released by the Headquarters. The land for the church building was donated by the Amogre-Atinga’s family of Lungu.

Work went on smoothly until the funds were exhausted, thereby stalling the project. In 2019, the district under the current minister, Pastor Bawomia, secured grants from the Bolgatanga Area while the assembly raised funds to complete the project.

Use Your Platform To Defend Jesus, Not Yourself – Apsotle Nyamekye Advises Christian Leaders

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has advised Christian leaders to use their platform to propagate Jesus instead of drawing public attention to themselves.

He said this on Sunday, June 2, 2024, when he delivered a sermon titled “Learning To Be Quiet” during a communion service at the Burma Camp Worship Centre in Accra.

Apostle Nyamekye reminded believers that Christianity demands a transformation in one’s way of life.

He stated: “We no longer live to please ourselves but the one who died to save us. As people of God, we need to prove to the world that we are children of God.”

Drawing from Mark 15:1-5, he highlighted Jesus’ silence before Pilate as an example for Christians to follow. He urged pastors to use their platforms to defend Jesus, not themselves.

He also referenced Isaiah 53:7 and Luke 21:16 to further emphasise the importance of quietness and patience, especially in the face of adversity.

Apostle Nyamekye stressed the need for Christians to control their words.

He advised Christians to weigh their words carefully, considering what to say, when, where, and how to say it.

He warned about the potential dangers of uncontrolled speech, stating, “Words will always chart a course for you to follow. You can be emancipated by your words or trapped by it. The tongue is like a fire; It is a deadly poison; It is evil; it is restless, a trouble-causer.”

Quoting from Peter 4:11, urged them to avoid unwholesome talk, which grieves the Holy Spirit, as seen in Ephesians 4:30-31. He further advised Christians to speak graciously, as stated in Luke 4:22.

Apostle Nyamekye called on Christians to set high standards for their speech and to be intentional and conscious in controlling their words, saying, “We are unleashed to be signs and wonders to our world. Let us amaze people with our quietness. Let us bless people with our gracious words.”

The service was attended by Mrs. Mary Nyamekye, wife of the Chairman; Apostle (Col. Dr) Benjamin Godson Kumi-Woode, Ag. Chaplain of the Ghana Armed Forces, and his wife, Mrs. Victoria Kumi-Woode; and Pastor Cornelius Edem Lotsu, Resident Minister of the Burma Camp Worship Centre.

62 Chiefs Surrender Their Lives To Jesus web

62 Chiefs Surrender Their Lives To Jesus

The just ended 6th Royals Conference organised by The Church of Pentecost at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, witnessed a significant moment as 62 traditional rulers publicly embraced their faith in Jesus Christ.

The 3-day event, held from June 25 to 27, 2024, under the theme, “Moral Vision and National Development: The Role of Traditional Rulers,” drew 1,612 traditional rulers from both Ghana and Togo. Among them were 77 paramount chiefs, 38 paramount queenmothers, divisional chiefs, and other royals.

During the closing session on Thursday, the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost and President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Eric Nyamekye, who was the convenor of the conference, preached a powerful sermon on ‘When You Have Become A King/Queen.’

He personally led an altar call, urging the traditional rulers who were not born again to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ—the ultimate source of power and security. Sixty-two responded to the call and surrendered their lives to Christ while many others rededicated their lives to Christ.

Apostle Nyamekye emphasised that their reliance on Christ would provide the wisdom needed to lead their communities effectively. Drawing parallels with King Solomon’s request for wisdom to govern Israel, he encouraged them to seek divine guidance rather than turning to other sources of spiritual power.

The biannual royals conference which began in 2014 under Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, the then Chairman of the church, seeks to bring all royals in and outside the church together to align their rule with godly values and principles to foster peace and development in their communities.

God Has Made You Stewards Of His Land - Apostle Amponsah-Frimpong To Traditional Rulers web

God Has Made You Stewards Of His Land – Apostle Amponsah-Frimpong To Traditional Rulers

The Chairman of the Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI), Apostle Samuel Amponsah-Frimpong, has reminded traditional rulers that God has made them stewards over the lands they survey.

The CACI Chairman said this today [June 27, 2024] during Day 2 of the Royals Conference organised by The Chieftaincy Ministry of The Church of Pentecost at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh l  near Kasoa.

Apostle Amponsah-Frimpong emphasised that God is the custodian of all lands as the creator of all things. However, in His wisdom, He has assigned humans, including kings, chiefs, and other royals, the duty to care for these lands until His coming.

He added that as stewards, humans have a responsibility to keep the land in good shape so that posterity will bless them.

The CACI Chairman highlighted that although God created natural resources for human use, these resources face the challenge of overexploitation.

He pointed out that the growing population contributes to this overexploitation as people seek places to live and materials for building.

Another factor he revealed is the non-adherence to laws and the culture of impunity. He stressed that this is often enabled by traditional leaders and government officials who turn a blind eye to the disregard for laws and even contribute to it, alongside the over-politicisation of important national issues.

Apostle Amponsah-Frimpong explained that the overexploitation of Ghana’s resources has led to the pollution of water bodies, destruction of forest reserves, the risk of certain animals becoming extinct, the spread of strange diseases due to chemical use, and the reduction of fish stocks in territorial waters due to chemical use and foreign intrusion.

To address the challenge of overexploitation, Apostle Amponsah-Frimpong suggested that traditional leaders, whose offices are highly revered and recognised by the 1992 Constitution, should leverage this respect to mobilise their people.

He urged them to conduct activities that will lead to the preservation of natural resources within their jurisdictions and bring about development.

He added that Ghana needs patriots, including traditional leaders, to control the land and preserve it for future generations.

Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu Asks Chiefs To Reflect On Symbols Associated With Their Offices web

Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu Asks Chiefs To Reflect On Symbols Associated With Their Offices

The President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Very Rev. Prof. Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, has suggested that traditional rulers have great lessons to learn from the symbols associated with their offices to guide them to become agents of morality and service to their people.

Addressing the gathering of royals at the Royals Conference organised by The Church of Pentecost under the theme, ‘Moral Vision and National Development: The Role of Traditional Rulers’ underway at Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa Fetteh, Very Rev. Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu said royalty is associated with symbols that are to serve as constant reminders to them in the discharge of their duties.

‘The symbols, colours, names and appellations are not there to make you swollen-headed but to draw your attention to serve,’ he reminded the gathering.

The theologian emphasised that the symbols of office of chiefs and their jurisdictions are not chosen at random but serve as memorials, encouragement, instructions and status, and thus should be a constant reflection of their personality and deeds.

Referencing the Fante names of the months in the year, Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu stated that they point to prudent use of time. He observed that one of the things royals need to help change in society is the use of time.

‘One of the things we are joking with in this country is the use of time, and anyone who doesn’t respect time will live in a corrupt society because when time catches you by you want to catch up and that makes you cut corners’, he stressed.

He regretted that the nation’s leaders; politicians and traditional rulers are aiding in the perpetuation of a lack of shame in the Ghanaian society.

‘One of the things I’m ashamed of is the lack of shame. When the law catches up with someone, you see politicians gathering at the courts in the name of solidarity. You can’t provide moral support for an act that is immoral,’ he indicated.

He noted that patriotic songs of the country highlight the need for the citizenry to be selfless and morally upright. He stressed that renowned songwriter, Dr Ephraim Amu, described greed as disability because it robs the nation of progress and lack of commitment to moral development as disgraceful.

Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu entreated the royals to submit to Christ as there is no symbol that surpasses the sovereignty and supremacy of God.

‘Your personality is a symbol, and it is sacred. There are things you are expected to do and not to do. There are critical lessons of morality, ethics and service associated with your position as a traditional ruler and you must take them seriously,’ he admonished.

He recommended that the rich symbols of the nation must be incorporated into the educational system of Ghana to make morality a central theme in the development agenda of the nation.

‘There are many great moral lessons in symbols to guide decision-making and ethical behaviour that will serve as examples of morals in society and inform what we want to teach. Let us imbibe them,’ he concluded.
