It’s Official: The Church of Pentecost Children’s Ministry Is 50 Years!

A special ceremony was held yesterday at the McKeown Temple, Ashaiman, to officially launch the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Children’s Ministry of The Church of Pentecost.

The historic anniversary celebration was launched by the General Secretary of the Church, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, with assistance from the patron of the ministry, Prophet David Kankam Beditor (Ashaiman Area Head and Executive Council Member), Apostle Vincent Anane Denteh (PEMEM Director and Executive Council Member), Pastor Prof. William Otoo Ellis (Children’s Ministry Director) and other ministers of the Church.

The Children’s Ministry was initiated in The Church of Pentecost in 1972 by some illustrious women of the church including Mrs. Margaret Mills.

The Children Ministry has turned 50 this year, and to mark this momentous milestone, the leadership of the ministry has outlined some special activities to observe the anniversary celebration.

The golden jubilee celebration is being held under the theme: “Celebrating 50 Years of God’s Goodness in Equipping Children to Possess the Nations” (Psalm 100:5, Proverbs 22:6) and would be climaxed in September during the annual Children’s Week celebration.

Apostle Kumi-Larbi, in his address, said that the event is a special and historic day in the annals of The Church of Pentecost and the Children’s Ministry in particular.

“The Lord has been good to the Church and ministry. The ministry, which started in the homes of individuals is now a full-fledge ministry playing significant roles in the growth and activities of the Church,” he said.

The General Secretary also commended the ministry for staying true to the objectives for which it was instituted by the forebears, amongst which are to lead children to have personal knowledge of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and to teach children the unadulterated word of God.

Apostle Kumi-Larbi also paid a glowing tribute to past and present directors and leaders of the ministry as well as children’s workers for the great work done for the last 50 years.

He also urged adult members to take active part in the golden jubilee celebration to ensure its success, saying: “50 years of God’s goodness is worth celebrating!”

The General Secretary also urged parents and church leaders to prioritise the spiritual growth of the children and be keen on raising godly children.

In a brief speech at the event, Pastor Prof. Ellis expressed gratitude to God for the historic milestone chalked by the Children’s Ministry.

He asserted that, the Lord, through the Children’s Ministry, has raised many great men and women of God who now serve as ambassadors of the ministry in the church and various spheres.

The Director stated that the ministry continues to pursue this mandate as it seeks to raise godly children who grow to become godly adults who would positively impact the Church and the nations.

Pastor Prof. Ellis further noted that, among other things, the Golden Jubilee anniversary celebration would grant the ministry the opportunity to take stock of the work done in the last 50 years, learn from the failures, and strategise for a more glorious future.

“I am overjoyed because the Lord has made it possible for us to see and be a part of the golden jubilee anniversary of the ministry. It is, therefore, a time to celebrate, a time to sacrifice to the Lord, and we want to do it in style with the “50 for 50” evangelistic initiative,” he said.

Throwing more light on the “50 for 50” initiative, which is also the official slogan for the celebration, Prof. Ellis said that to mark 50 years of God’s goodness, the Children’s Ministry in every assembly of the Church is tasked to win and maintain a minimum of 50 children for Christ.

“This would serve as a thanksgiving offering to the Lord for His goodness,” he added.

He further noted that assemblies that are able to achieve the set target would be acknowledged for their efforts and would have their names inscribed on a plaque of honour for posterity to see their noble feat.

Pastor Dr. Ebenezer Tetteh Kpalam, the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, in turn, walked the audience through the various activities outlined for the semi-centennial celebration.

The launch ceremony, which was interspersed with song ministrations, scripture recital and other activities, was well patronised by ministers, children and child workers of the Church.

Among the dignitaries present were Elder Lawyer Alfred Aidoo (Deputy Children’s Director) and other National Executive Committee (NEC) members of the ministry. Also in attendance was Apostle Emmanuel Ofei Ankra-Badu (Tema Area Head), former Director of the Children’s Ministry, Prophet Benjamin Adobah (Rtd.), Apostle Johnson Agyemang Baduh (Rtd.).

The Church of Pentecost Chairman Inaugurates New Committees

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, has inaugurated three new committees to augment the operations of the Church worldwide.

They are the Research and Development Committee, Prisons Ministry Committee, and the Security and Safety Committee.

The short inaugural ceremony was held today at the Church’s General Headquarters, at La, in Accra. The Chairman was assisted by the General Secretary of the Church, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi.

In a brief address at the event, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, using Ephesians 4:16 as scriptural reference, said that the church represents the body of Christ who is the head of the whole body.

He iterated that the whole body is able to stand and perform because of the supporting ligaments with which it is equipped, whilst growing through love.

“The Church of Pentecost has really grown from the fringes of society to prominence. We have become a very big church; however, we did not come this far only because of the key officials or ministers, rather there are so many people playing major roles in the church; they are the supporting ligaments,” he stated.

Apostle Nyamekye asserted that if the supporting ligaments (people) are cut off, the church becomes ‘dismembered’, thus, taking life out of it. For this reason, much priority should be given to the work of such people in the church.

He admonished leaders to ensure that the ligaments or structures are available to put the church together, give life to it and make it strong.

“We tend to form committees and boards to support the ministries that we are doing,” he said.

The Chairman further stated that Paul was described as a great man because he effectively used the ligaments (members) in the church to support the work. This, according to him, was because Paul saw the value in them.

He then charged them to execute their mandates fruitfully, thereby contributing their quota to the church.

“See it as an opportunity once you have been called to work for the church. Do your best,” he urged.

Members of the Research and Development Committee are as follows: Pastor Prof. William Otoo Ellis (Chairman), Apostle Dr. Lord Elorm Donkor (Co-opted), Apostle Vincent Anane Denteh (Co-opted), Apostle Lawrence Otu-Nyarko, Apostle Dr. Christian Tsekpoe, Pastor Emmanuel Marfo, Pastor Daniel Appiah (Coordinator), Elder Dr. Owusu Sekyere, Elder Prof. Justice Bawole, Elder Dr. Mike Adjaloo, Deaconess Dr. Jemima Ankama Lomotey, Deaconess Prof. Alice Mensah and Lawyer Marrieme Djaquittee.

The Prisons Ministry Committee comprises Apostle ADP James Tetteh (Chairman), Pastor DSP Moses Animah (Secretary), Elder ADP Lawyer Charles Ameyaw, Elder James Nnyan, Elder Augustine Sarpong, Elder Richard Amaning, Mr Isaac Kuma Yeboah, Deaconess Juliana Owusu and Deaconess Eunice Obeng.

“God listens to the prayer of kings and rulers. When you pray to Him like King Hezekiah did, He will listen to you and answer your prayers,” he said, adding, “Because King Hezekiah called on God through prayer, God granted him many more years to live.”

He urged the chiefs to give their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ and live for Him. He said kingship was designed by God Almighty who established the reign of many kings of old who walked closely with Him.

“Be faithful to God, maintain a humble heart, submit to God’s values,” he stressed.

He added: “Tell God to take care of your people and help bring development to your communities. There is no good news than the gospel of salvation. Great works are done by God’s divine hands; great works are done by God’s spirit through us so that the glory will be for God and your chieftaincy will progress.”

Women’s Director Pays Working Visit To Ashanti-Bekwai Area

The Director of the Women’s Ministry of The Church of Pentecost, Mrs. Philomena Mireku, has paid a three-day working visit to the Ashanti-Bekwai Area of the Church.

Mrs. Mireku was accompanied on the visit by her deputy, Mrs. Vivian Amfo, and Mrs. Abishag Asamoah Boakye, a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ministry.

The visit, which started on Monday, May 16, 2022, saw the delegation fellowshipping with the women in the Bekwai, Datano and Manso Atwere zones of the Area.

Speaking to the women, Mrs. Mireku said the purpose of the visit was to thank the womenfolk of the area for their active involvement during the recently-held Women’s Ministry Week celebration and encourage them to keep up the good work.

Reading from Ephesians 6:10-11 and Judge 4:4-5, the Women’s Ministry Director drew lessons from the life of Deborah, describing her as a wife, judge, and a prophetess.

She noted that Deborah could possess her nation, Israel, with Kingdom principles and values because she possessed all the qualities of a virtuous woman.

According to her, the five major characteristics of Deborah that made her distinct from other women was her prayerfulness, charisma, supportive nature, humility and wisdom.

“Deborah was prayerful. She was a prophetess, an office that marked her as prayerful,” she said.

Mrs. Mireku, therefore, encouraged the women to be intercessors by interceding for the leadership of the Church, family members, the society and the world at large in prayer.

As a courageous and charismatic leader, Deborah, she noted, encouraged Barrack to lead the nation to war against Sisera (Judges 4:14).

“This shows that Deborah was an Inspirer. She knew how to organize and mobilize people for battle,” she added.

She also urged the women to emulate Deborah’s supportive nature by supporting their husbands to build godly homes.

He further stated that: “Deborah had the virtue of humility. If she did not exhibit this quality, it would have been difficult for her subjects to approach her for justice. Therefore, we must humble themselves in all situations though difficult sometimes.”

Deborah was a wise woman, and because of her wisdom, she was made the Judge of her nation, she added.

Concluding her message, Mrs. Mireku assured the women that if Deborah was able to succeed as a wife, prophetess and judge (leader) then they could also succeed in their bid to possess their spheres for Christ.

The meeting was well attended by ministers and their spouses, Women’s Ministry leaders and Executive Committee members, as well as officers and members of the Church.

Jinavore District Organises “Farm Smart” Training Workshop For Farmers

The Jinavore District in the Sawla Area of The Church of Pentecost has organised its maiden training programme for farmers in the Jinavore community and its environs in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of Ghana.

The event, themed: “Farm Smart,” was jointly held by the District Men’s Ministry and the Agric Department of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly to sensitise members on the proper methods of farming ahead of the May farming season.

The workshop was in line with the strategic vision of the Church, dubbed “Vision 2023: Possessing the Nations,” which aims at equipping members to impact every sphere of society including the agricultural sector, the main occupation of the members in the district.

Addressing the participants, the District Minister, Overseer Benjamin Aliniah, said the event is also in line with the strategic objectives of the national leadership of PEMEM to enhance agribusiness and alleviate poverty in the country. He, therefore, entreated the participants to regard their farms as businesses that could serve as a major source of income when given the requisite attention.

Mr Everest Anwullo and Mr. John Chonga, the resource persons from the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly (Agric. Department), took turns to educate participants on the need to adopt proper agricultural methods when farming for a good yield.

These presentations were demonstrated with audio-visual aids to assist farmers on the best farming practices. There was also a question-and-answer session to further address the concerns of the participants.

The event also saw the formation of a Farmers Union in the Jinavore Community to aid subsequent trainings. As a result, a team of five was selected to supervise and ensure that farmers complied with the agricultural model enshrined in the PEMEM Strategic plan.

In attendance were the community chiefs, Muslims folks, and the Assemblyman of the Jinavore Electoral Area, Hon. John Nakor.

The Jinavore District also donated agro-chemicals to all widows who participated in the training programme.

Suhum Area Inaugurates Chieftaincy Ministry

The Suhum Area of The Church of Pentecost, under the leadership of Apostle Anthony Eghan Kwesi Ekuban, has inaugurated the Chieftaincy Ministry in the Area to provide chaplaincy services to chiefs, queens and other royals in the church.

The glamourous event, which was held at the L.A. Nyarko Memorial Sanctuary recently, saw the inauguration of a seven-member Area Executive Committee of the new ministry mandated to lead the church’s vision of possessing the palace.

Pastor Samuel Osae-Djan (retired), in a sermon titled, “Equipping Chiefs as Army to Possess Their Territories” – Romans 13:1-5, called for a paradigm shift from how society sees royals as idol worshippers.

He explained that in times past many Christians wrongly perceived the chieftaincy institution to be a symbol of idol worship and for that matter, chiefs and queen mothers do not merit the Kingdom of God.  “Currently, through the possessing the nation’s agenda, the church now has royals who are elders, deacons and deaconesses,” he said.

Pastor Osae-Djan expounded that the gospel needs to be preached in the palaces to win more souls for Christ and in that direction, royals in the church should serve as the agents of transformation.

Inaugurating the seven-member Area Committee of the Chieftaincy Ministry, Apostle Ekuban commended the committee members for accepting the responsibility to champion the cause of the gospel in the palaces in addition to their traditional duties. He charged them to work assiduously and also liaise with other traditional rulers in the Area to spread the gospel to the palaces.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Nana Nicholas Odame, Dwantoahene of Kibi, who is the chairman, expressed his appreciation to the leadership of the church for coming out with such a great vision to help royals know Christ.

He urged all royals to uphold the ‘Possessing the Nations’ agenda of the church, saying, “We are going out as servants to possess the nations. We need to enter the palace and introduce Christ to our subjects.”

The colourful occasion was graced by all pastors within the Suhum Area, chiefs, queen mothers and other royals within the Area.
