PENTSOS Gari-Processing Centre Commissioned

PENTSOS Gari-Processing Centre Commissioned

A gari-processing centre constructed by Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS) at Nyambong in the Nkwanta South Municipality in the Oti Region of Ghana has been commissioned.

The facility was commissioned by the Ho Area Head and Executive Council Member of the Church, Apostle Dr Dela Quampah, during a special ceremony held yesterday. Apostle Quampah was assisted by Pastor Seth Dwamena Asante (Nkwanta Area Head) and Elder Richard Amaning (PENTSOS Director).

The agro-processing centre initiative, according to Elder Richard Amaning, is among many community-development interventions by PENTSOS funded by The Church of Pentecost under her strategic vision, dubbed “Vision 2023.”

He further stated that the project is a social enterprise project of PENTSOS with the overarching goal to enhance the livelihood and income of beneficiaries especially women and youth while contributing to improving food security in Ghana.

“The processing centre would support directly over 100 gari processors into producing quality gari under improved and hygienic conditions and also encourage farmers into large scale cultivation of cassava in the project catchment area,” he said at the event.

The PENTSOS Director also commended the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Executive Council, and the National PENTSOS Board for the support in making the project a success.

The centre, constructed at a cost of GHS 122,250.00, has a store room, an office, a stainless steel grating machine, Hydraulic and manual pressers, sifters and brick oven with chimney, and a stainless-steel roasting tray.

Gari is a fine to coarse granular flour of varying texture made from cassava tubers.

The popular Ghanaian food item is currently the most commercialised cassava product in the country and continues to increase in production due to the increasing urban demand and export market potential.

In a brief exhortation at the commissioning ceremony based on Ecclesiastes 10:19, Apostle Dr. Dela Quampah admonished members to work hard and make use of the processing to make money, make investment to support their children and future, and to appreciate God’s goodness through their tithes and offering.

The Ho Area Head also inaugurated a seven-member steering committee drawn from the Church and the community to manage the facility.

Present at the commissioning ceremony were Nana Obiako Akola (Chief of Nyambong), Hon. Bright Lingwa (Chief Executive of Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly), the Nkwanta Area pastorate, officers of the Municipal Assembly, the Assembly Member, community elders, and church members.

Also in attendance were officials of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) led by Mr Awudu Mubarak (MoFA Director for Nkwanta South Municipality)

Mrs Esther Matey Obu Goes Home At Age 29

Mrs Esther Matey Obu Goes Home

A solemn burial and memorial service has been held in memory of Mrs Esther Matey Obu, 29, the late wife of Overseer Joshua Obu of Assin Akropong District of The Church of Pentecost.

The burial service, which took place on Saturday, January 14, 2022, at Foso Habitat Prayer Grounds, was officiated by the Co-ordinator of the Central Regional Co-ordinating Committee (RCC), Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi, assisted by Apostle David Tettey Tekper (Achimota Area Head), Apostle Philip Osei Korsah (Director of the Counseling Ministry), Apostle Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua (Vice Chancellor of Pentecost University), Area Heads, ministers and their wives, officers and members of the church in Assin Foso Area and other churches.

Speaking on the topic, “The mystery of the death of the righteous” with scripture reference from Numbers 23:10b, Pastor Emmanuel Anane of Assin Manso District stressed the need for believers to die as righteous people.

“The death of the righteous is a blissful experience because we go to be with the Lord forever where we rest from our earthly toils. Therefore, strive to die the death of the righteous,” he concluded.

He, however, said that very often, people are quick to attribute every negative happening, especially death to the devil, but one mystery of death is that it could be used as a tool to accomplish God’s purpose for believers.

“What could have encouraged Balaam who had been contracted by Balak to curse the Israelites and even kill them yearn to die like the righteous and have his end be like theirs?” he quizzed. “There was a mystery that may have been revealed to him.”

Pastor Anane said that death is seen by many as a dreaded evil that causes the cessation of life on earth. He, however, noted that death is for all and comes to people at a time they least expected.

Concluding his message, he stressed that notwithstanding the difficulties that death comes along with, the death of the righteous is a gain and far better than life on earth.

Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi conveyed a consolatory message from the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, to the widower, Overseer Joshua Obu, and the bereaved family.

Mrs Esther Obu together with her husband was called into the full-time ministry of the church and posted to the Assin Akropong District in August 2021. She will forever be remembered as an affable and bubbly young lady who had the development of children, youths and women at heart.

She is survived by a husband and two daughters.

Mampong Area Begins “Pentecost Hour” Broadcast On KAS 106.3 FM

The Mampong Area of The Church of Pentecost has secured airtime on KAS 106.3 FM for a weekly radio broadcast programme, dubbed “Pentecost Hour.”

The Pentecost Hour broadcast, which officially commenced last Saturday, would serve as an avenue to propagate the unadulterated Word of God to as many people as possible in line with the Church’s “Possessing the Nations” agenda.

Speaking on the topic: “Repentance” during the premiere episode, the Area Head, Apostle Samuel Kwabena Asare emphasised that “repentance is so important to God that it is a major theme in the Scriptures which messengers of God in both the Old and New Testaments preached.”

Quoting Matthew 4:17 and Mark 1:15 to buttress his assertion, Apostle Asare stated that the first message Jesus preached after His baptism was: “repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand.” This, he said, showed a relationship between repentance and the Kingdom of God. According to him, “repentance is a key prerequisite of the kingdom of God.”

He defined repentance as a change of heart toward the revealed truth of the word of God, stressing that this change of heart leads to a change of one’s mind, will, attitude and actions.

Making reference to Psalm 119:59-60, Apostle Asare espoused the three steps in repentance.

The first step is for one to stop and begin to ponder over their ways and actions; the second is to turn away from one’s evil ways and decide to follow the ways of God and His commandments, whilst the third is to walk in the ways of God by obeying His commandments and putting His word into practice, the Area Head explained.

Others present for the broadcast were Pastor Raphael Agyekum-Darkwah (Tunsuom District Minister and Area Missions Committee Chairman), Overseer Michael Osei-Yeboah (Birem District Minister and Area Media Ministry Committee Chairman), Elder Obed Nii Sackey, and Mr. Daniel Dankwah.

Pentecost Hour airs this and every Saturday at 5:30 am on KAS 106.3 FM.

Aflao Area Holds Annual Praise & Worship Night

The Aflao Area of The Church of Pentecost has organised a praise and worship conference dubbed, ‘Redeemed Praise.’

The annual event, which was held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, was attended by members of the church from across the Area.

In a short exhortation, the Area Head, Apostle Michael Agyen Brefo, said that giving thanks to God should be a paramount feature in the life of every believer because God is the source of their existence, stressing that it is the Lord’s mercies that sustain them.

According to him, praise and worship are the redeemed’s core duty.

Reading Psalm 107:1-3, 9-9, Apostle Agyen Brefo noted that Christians appreciate His everlasting goodness and mercies towards them by giving thanks to God.

La Area Women’s Ministry Organises Thanksgiving Service

The La Area Women’s Ministry of The Church of Pentecost has organised a thanksgiving service to appreciate God for His goodness towards the members of the church.

Speaking at the annual event on January 9, 2023, at Dr Thomas Wyatt Temple, the wife of the La Area Head, Mrs Juanita Nuekpe, charged members never to seize thanking God in all circumstances.

She spoke on the topic, “Ebenezer, thus far the Lord has brought us” – 1 Samuel 7:12.

Mrs Nuekpe hinted that Prophet Samuel raised a memorial stone anytime God granted victory to the Israelites, signifying their heartfelt gratitude to God.

She noted that although not all expectations were met in 2022, yet it is fit to render thanks to God, be it good or bad.

“It is the grace of God that has kept us alive and ushered us into a new year. It is this same grace that will continue to carry us through 2023 and the rest of the years ahead. So we need to raise a memorial of thanksgiving to Him,” she added.

Mrs Nuekpe further cited Noah and Abraham as examples of persons who raised memorial altars to God in Genesis 8:20; 12:7-8 after the flood and angelic visitation, respectively.

Also quoting from Hebrews 13:15, Mrs Nuekpe admonished believers to be intentional in rendering thanks to God.

Referring to Luke 17:12-19, she indicated that as members continually thank God, He expands their territories and preserves them.

According to him, when the ten lepers received healing, only one went back to thank Jesus and was made whole.

Mrs Juanita Nuekpe concluded by urging members of the ministry to make thanksgiving a lifestyle.

In attendance were Mrs Rose Kumi-Larbi (wife of the General Secretary of the church), Deaconess Margaret Osei (former Deputy Director of the Women’s Ministry), and the La Area Women’s Ministry Leader, Deaconess Bernice Broni, and her team.

The Women’s Ministry of the Mamponteng District in the Old Tafo Area of The Church of Pentecost has held a special feast for persons with disabilities (PWDs) of the Physically Challenged Action Foundation at Offinso on Monday, January 2, 2023.

The representatives of the eight local assemblies in the district showcased their meals, which were inspected by the District Minister, Pastor Stephen Ayerakwa Gyan, and his wife, Gladys, together with Deaconess Mavis Addai (Old Tafo Area Women’s Leader) and Deaconess Vida Appiah (District Women’s Leader), after which the 150 inmates of the Home were served.

Aside from the dinner, the Church also presented some items worth GHC 2,500.00 to the Home, among which were wax prints, clothing, underwear and panties.

According to Pastor Ayerakwa Gyan, the gesture was in response to the charge in Matthew 25:40, and also to fulfil the Church’s Vision 2023 agenda of “Possessing the Nations,” which seeks to influence every sphere of life with principles and values of the kingdom of God. He called on all and sundry to get the PWDs involved in the New Year celebration to make them feel part of the society.

The Founder of the Home, Mr. Sylvester Yaw Barima Antwi, appreciated The Church of Pentecost, especially the Mamponteng District Women’s Ministry for the wonderful benevolence. He asserted that such acts create space for social interaction, and are closely entwined with definitions of the self-esteem for the disabled in society.

Pentecost University Management Hosts Media Ministry

The management of Pentecost University (PU) met with officials of the Media Ministry of The Church of Pentecost yesterday to discuss some issues of mutual interest.

The meeting, which took place at the university’s Sowutuom campus, was held to explore more opportunities for firmer collaborations to champion the Pentecost University’s A+ agenda.

The two-member delegation of the Media Ministry, made up of Pastor Dr. Felix Dela Klutse (Media Ministry Pastor) and Elder Prince Kojo Asare (Senior Editor, Media Ministry), was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Pentecost University, Apostle Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua, who commended them for their continued support to the University.

Commenting on University’s A+ agenda, the VC explained that PU seeks to raise problem solvers with godly character to meet the challenges on the African continent.

According to him, professional skills and ethics are necessary requirements for effective service in society, a reason why PU strives to develop both the skills and ethics of its students.

“A professional like a medical doctor, accountant, or a driver who is ethical but not technically good at their profession can be as dangerous as the one who is properly skilled but is unethical,” he said.

Prof. Agyapong-Kodua, further noted that, the management of PU had, over the years, made it a prime objective to put the University on a solid financial footing. Having achieved this target, he further stated, PU is now focused on building an institution to “spread and last.”

Dr. Abrahma Nyebah, the Acting Chief Finance Officer of the University, shared with the team PU’s road to financial stability and how management intends to sustain and improve upon the gains made in the future.

Dr. Nyebah was upbeat about the future of the University as he revealed that PU currently has three other campuses in Ghana – PCC, Gomoa-Fetteh, Takoradi and Sunyani – with a student enrolment of more than 13,000.

Pastor Dr. Klutse, on his part, congratulated the leadership of PU for the remarkable progress made and expressed his commitment towards helping the University realise its strategic vision.

He said that included in the strategic plan of the Media Ministry is the resolution to help Pentecost University to become the tertiary institution of choice in Ghana and to help meet its objectives.

Aside from promoting Pentecost University on the various digital platforms, Pastor Dr. Klutse said the Media Ministry would also partner with the University to organise workshops and conferences, and provide training and industrial attachment opportunities to students.

Pastor Dr. Klutse also visited the International Digital Centre (IDC), where he interacted with Mr. Isaac Kumah Yeboah, the Acting Director of the Centre, about the prospects of PU’s engineering faculty.

Other PU representatives at the meeting were Mr. Michel W. K. Gyimah (Chief Information Officer), Mr. Isaac Yeboah (Admissions Officer), and Mr. David Kyetong Guun (Acting Head of Business Development and Corporate Affairs).

Don’t Take The Grace Of God For Granted – Apostle Nyamekye Tells Ghanaians

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has urged Ghanaians to thank God for his grace in sustaining the peace and security of the nation.

“Sometimes we take the grace of God for granted. Let us, therefore, thank God for what he has done for us as a nation. The issue is that we do not reflect on this grace, that is why we do not appreciate the grace of God,” he asserted.

Apostle Nyamekye said this on Tuesday, January 10, 2022, during the maiden Thanksgiving Service organised by the Ministry of Education at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

Preaching on the topic, “Thanksgiving and Wisdom,” Apostle Nyamekye noted that reflecting on the past year, the feelings may vary depending on how one measures it, saying, “No matter what happened, once you are alive today, the righteous requirement of you is to give thanks to the Lord.”

The Chairman, therefore, entreated the people of Ghana to count their blessings not their curses for no one has it all.

He stated: “We need to live in day-tight compartments. We need to have a firm assurance that our destinies are secured in God.”

Apostle Nyamekye urged Ghanaians to inculcate the habit of developing a positive attitude of thanksgiving toward the Lord in any situation that may befall them in their lives.

Using Psalm 100 as a scripture reference, he disclosed that people usually concentrate more on the losses than the gains, hence they fail to thank the Lord for his blessings.

He charged the citizenry to work hard to ensure a fruitful year and also avoid unnecessary worries about life.

“We disturb ourselves by carrying unnecessary burdens because tomorrow will take care of itself. Close the door to yesterday, shut that of tomorrow and live in today,” he said.

Touching on education, he asked Ghanaians to pray for a robust educational system that will enhance national development.

The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, led the staff and heads of agencies within the Ministry of Education to offer prayers for the nation and its leadership.

Present were the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and his deputy, Hon. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.

Don’t Compromise Kingdom Values And Principles – Pastor Obeng Advices

Don’t Compromise Kingdom Values And Principles – Pastor Obeng Advices

The University of Ghana-Legon Campus Pastor of The Church Of Pentecost, Pastor Kwadwo Obeng, has advised young Christians not to compromise the values and principles of the Kingdom of God.

According to him, values and principles are inseparable, saying, “Values are what we cherish in the kingdom of God, whereas principles are how we live to fulfill the values of the kingdom of God.”

He added: “If chastity is my value, then my principle will be no pre-marital sex.”

Pastor Obeng was speaking on the topic, “The values and principles of the kingdom of God” during the just-ended PENSA Ghana Conference which took place concurrently at three centres – University for Development Studies (UDS) – Tamale; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST) – Kumasi, and the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC) – Gomoa Fette.

Using Matthew 6:32 – 33 and Revelation 3:11 as his main texts, Pastor Obeng noted that being anxious about things in life can cause one to do something they never intended to do.

The UG Campus Pastor asserted that seeking first the Kingdom of God has two meanings – accepting Jesus as Lord and personal saviour and prioritizing one’s life by putting God first in all things.

“Seeking first the Kingdom of God means keeping the principles and values of the Kingdom of God,” he said, adding, “To be able to transform society, carry something society does not have to bring a change.”

He, however, noted that the values and principles of the Kingdom of God are the things to carry to transform society.

According to him, values are the primary and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate attitudes or actions. They provide general guidelines of conduct, whereas a principle is a widespread belief one has about the way he/she behaves.

He explained that there are personal and institutional or cultural values. Cultural values, he said, are accepted by societies and reflect what is important in each context. The values in the Kingdom of God are what are accepted.”

He pointed out that keeping principles comes with self-discipline and resilience, and also comes with sacrifices, saying, “A Christian with principles does not live on what is popular.”

The Campus Minister further explained that a kingdom is the domain of a king or a king’s sphere of influence.

He indicated that every kingdom has subjects, accepted norms, and lifestyle and seeks to extend its territories.

“As a church, we possess nations to transform every sphere of society with God’s Kingdom values and principles,” he said.

He added: “The Kingdom of God is a people who belong to God and they become God’s domain. The Church is a called-up group with a covenant with God. When you are called up, you become a domain of God.”

He, however, examined that there are some people in the kingdom of Satan. Therefore, it is the responsibility of Christians to win them to God’s Kingdom.

Concluding his sermon, Pastor Kwadwo Obeng admonished the youth to take up Jesus Christ as their role model, saying, “There are good role models, but Jesus should be your ultimate role model.”
