Evangelism Is A Divine Assignment – Apostle J.B.K. Tawiah

The Tamale Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle John Budu K. Tawiah, has asserted that evangelism is a divine assignment for every Christian, making it a responsibility for all believers.

Apostle Tawiah made this assertion during the launch of the 2023 edition of the “One Member, One Discipled Soul” initiative in the Tamale Area.

Addressing the attendees at the event, Apostle Tawiah corrected the misconception that evangelism is reserved for a select few, asserting that the command of Christ in Matthew 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15-18 was directed to all believers.

“As Christians, we must view evangelism as an obligation aimed at reaching the millions who do not know Christ,” he stated.

Apostle Tawiah defined evangelism as the proclamation of the gospel of the Kingdom of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, with the purpose of winning souls and making them disciples of Christ.

He underlined the importance of vigorous evangelism before the second coming of Christ (Matthew 24:14).

He, however, stressed that the process of evangelism is not complete until the won soul is discipled and established in the Christian faith.

The task of proclaiming the gospel remains unfinished until the fruit (souls) that emerges remains in Christ,” he explained.

Apostle Tawiah urged every believer to follow the example of the early apostles and become soul winners.

He underscored the urgency for more soul winners, as there are numerous individuals untouched by the Gospel and in danger.

He, therefore, encouraged Christians to have compassion for lost souls and to engage in a rescue mission, as the church’s purpose is to save the lost.

Apostle Tawiah also  implored Christians to embrace evangelism as a divine obligation, emphasising the need for more soul winners given the growing population.

He cautioned against the tendency to focus on internal matters at the expense of evangelism and reminded Christians that God rewards those who win souls and disciple them.

Apostle Tawiah listed reasons for Christians to share the Gospel, including freedom from sin, salvation, forgiveness, and hope.

Concluding his message, the Tamale Area Head highlighted the qualities of effective soul winners, including being Holy Spirit-filled, having compassion for souls, prayerfulness, a deep knowledge of the Bible, exemplary Christian living, and showing value for the soul.

The “One Member, One Discipled Soul” initiative, introduced by The Church Of Pentecost, encourages members to engage in aggressive evangelism during the month of November each year to enhance soul-winning efforts.

The launch ceremony had in attendance Mrs. Agartha Tawiah (Wife of the Area Head), ministers and their spouses of the Church in the Tamale Metropolitan Area, along with various officers and members.

Speaking at the meeting, Apostle Anane Denteh, who is an Executive Council Member of the church, reiterated the value The Church of Pentecost places on the chieftaincy institution by creating a whole ministry for them to foster the relationship between the church and royals.

He added that as a church that places a premium on chieftaincy, they needed to visit the Ga palace and sympathise with them on the passing of the Queen.

Nii Afotey Anokwafo II, Antwere Gonno Mantse, Nungua, who is also a member of The Church of Pentecost, advised his fellow royals to give their lives to Christ just as he has done and acknowledge that all power is embedded in Christ.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, on his part, said that death is an inevitable experience and is not something that can be seen physically but that which hurts the very soul of those who have lost loved ones.

The Chairman also expressed gratitude to the Ga State for its warm reception to The Church of Pentecost by offering them places to worship, contributing to its massive development over the years.

He added that considering this beautiful relationship between the church and the Ga state, there was a need for the leadership of the church to visit and share their burden of grief with them.

Odorkor Area Launches “One Member One Discipled Soul” Initiative

The Odorkor Area of The Church of Pentecost has launched this year’s “One Member; One Discipled Soul” initiative with a call on Christians to aggressively share the good news of Jesus to all.

The event took place on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the Odorkor Central Assembly church auditorium and was chaired by Area Head, Apostle Isaac Tetteh Judah, with support from the area pastorate including Apostle Dr. Christian Tsekpoe (Head of Theology Department at Pentecost University and Resident Minister of A-Lang Worship Centre) and Pastor Abraham Addae Agyeman (Area Evangelism Ministry Leader and Odorkor District Minister).

The well-attended event witnessed the participation of over 500 persons drawn from all 21 districts within the Area.

Apostle Dr. Christian Tsekpoe, preaching on the topic ‘Jesus: Good News to the World’ with scripture reference from Luke 2:10, emphasised that Jesus died to atone for the sins of all humanity. Therefore, it is paramount to share this good news with people worldwide.

He stressed that it is the duty of Christians, having received this knowledge, to share it with others so that they would also come into the saving knowledge of Christ Jesus and escape eternal damnation.

In a brief remark, Apostle Tetteh Judah called upon members of the Area to actively engage in the month-long project by fervently proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ wherever they find themselves in order to save those who are perishing.

He also encouraged participants to launch the project at their respective districts and local assemblies while urging members to be actively involved in aggressive evangelism exercise.

As part of the strategies outlined for the aggressive evangelism month, the Area Head announced that any district that is able to record 500 souls during this period will receive a grant of GHS 10,000.00 from the Area.

A powerful revival swept through the event as the Area Head led the participants in a heartfelt prayer session and in singing some Evangelism Ministry songs.

The “One Member, One Discipled Soul” concept, conceived by the Evangelism Ministry as part of the church’s five-year strategic plan (Vision 2023), designates November each year for Aggressive Evangelism. This initiative aligns with the main mandate of Christ to His disciples, which is to go into the world, win souls for God, and disciple them accordingly.

Mepe Chief Calls On The Church Of Pentecost To Facilitate Government Support

“The Church of Pentecost is a formidable force, and I know when you speak, the government listens. So, I am pleading with you to liaise with the government to help find a lasting solution to this dam spillage and its attendant issues,” the Mankrado of Mepe, Togbe Korsi Nego VI, has stated.

He said this on Monday during an interaction with the General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, and other senior officials of the church who paid a courtesy call on him at his palace at Mepe to commiserate with them, following the havoc caused by the Akosombo Dam spillage.

According to the chief, almost 16,000 community inhabitants have been affected by the floods, most of whom have been displaced and their sources of livelihood utterly destroyed.

Narrating how the incident happened, Togbe Korsi Nego disclosed that about two weeks ago, the Volta River Authority (VRA) opened the dam’s spillways, submerging the whole community. He blamed the VRA for not being proactive in managing the situation.

He alleged that instead of the VRA opening the spillways gradually, they waited till the dam became full before opening it, thereby compounding the effects on the people of the Lower Volta.

“The flooding has brought untold hardship to my people. We have lost our houses and livelihoods, and thousands are now homeless,” he said, adding, “We hope that this would be the last time this disaster is happening after the 1963 incident. We pray that the government and the VRA will take the necessary steps to address this menace.”

The Mamaga of Mepe, Adzo Sreku IV, praised The Church of Pentecost for its commitment to social services and national development. “We saw the contribution The Church of Pentecost made during the COVID, and I’m glad that the church has shown up to support our people,” Mamaga Adzo Sreku said.

On his part, the General Secretary of the church, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, said the Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Executive Council, and the entire membership of the church were deeply concerned about the situation in Mepe and neighbouring communities.

Describing the situation as very critical, Apostle Obuobi was thankful to God for keeping the people safe in the melee.

“We are concerned about what is happening here. The whole situation is very critical. We pray that God will protect your people from further actions of the spillage,” he said. He added: “We have come to show love. We love you and are solidly behind you in these terrible times.”

On behalf of the Chairman, the General Secretary donated an undisclosed cash of money and bags of rice to the palace.

23 Church Buildings Submerged In Water In Akosombo Dam Spillage Flooding

Twenty-three church buildings belonging to The Church of Pentecost, a leading global Pentecostal church, have been submerged in water in the Volta Region following the controlled spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

Other church facilities like mission houses, particularly the one in Mepe, one of the worst-hit communities, have also been sunk in the flood waters.

Meanwhile, about ten other assemblies in some districts in the Sogakope Area have been cut off from the reach of the members.

This was revealed when the Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, together with the General Secretary, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, visited Battor and Mepe and other affected areas on Monday, October 23, 2023, to have firsthand information of the situation.

So far, the floods have seriously hit seven administrative districts within the Sogakope Area of the church.

They are Mepe District, where the church lost six church buildings, including the official residence of the District Minister. Others are Battor District (six church buildings submerged), Kpotame District (1 church building submerged), Dedukope District (3 church buildings submerged), Adutor (2 church buildings submerged), Adidome (2 church buildings submerged), and Tefle (3 church buildings submerged).

The flood has also displaced over 4,000 church members, including about 1,195 children, who lost their houses, farmlands and their sources of livelihood to the incident.

The Chairman and his team were at the affected communities to provide the immediate needs of the affected members, such as mattresses, insecticide-treated mosquito nets, food, water, and clothing.

The Mepe District Minister, Overseer Frederick Dzamesi, and his family have been given temporary accommodation at Mafi-Aklamador, a few kilometres from Battor. At the same time, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other government agencies have provided temporary shelter for the affected people at a few safe havens, such as schools.

The Church Of Pentecost Supports Flood Victims At Mepe, Battor

The Church of Pentecost on Monday, October 23, 2023, presented huge relief items worth several thousands of Ghana cedis to support flood victims at Mepe and Battor and adjoining communities in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region affected by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

Led by the church’s Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the General Secretary, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, and other senior ministers and officials, a truckload of relief items was presented to the displaced people.

The items included several bags of rice, gari, sachet water, sugar, mattresses, blankets, cooking oil, soaps, toilet rolls, mosquito nets, beverages, sanitary pads, and many more.

Addressing some victims at the Battor Central Assembly of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Nyamekye assured them of the church’s support in these difficult moments.

Describing the whole incident as a national disaster, Apostle Nyamekye thanked God for securing the lives of the people, as no casualty has been recorded so far.

Quoting from Ecclesiastics 9:12 (Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so people are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them), the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) National President encouraged the people to remain strong and rely on God, since He can turn their unfortunate situation into something good.

“Sometimes we don’t really know what will happen to us tomorrow. Let us strengthen ourselves and look into the future, which is very bright. The flood has come, and we can do nothing about it. Our houses and livelihoods have all been submerged. We can only cry to God to bring relief and a better future,” he said.

He added: “The world and its entirety is temporal. Life and its entirety is short, so situations and events that happen on Earth are temporary. Yesterday, it was COVID, but today it’s no more. Today, it’s flooding, but tomorrow, floods will be no more.

“So we have come today to manage this temporary situation. We cannot close our eyes on you because it affects the entire church when something happens to the people. Together, we can manage this flood situation and get out of it stronger,” he indicated.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye thanked the Volta Regional Coordinating Committee (Volta RCC) of the church, led by the Ho Area Head, Apostle Dr Dela Quampah, and the Sogakope Area Head, Pastor Godwin Coffie Adzahlie, and other Area Heads and pastors in the region for effectively managing the situation.

Upon further assessing the impact of the disaster, the Chairman promised to bring the victims an additional 100 bags of rice and other relief items.

At the same time, the Women’s Ministry Director, Mrs Philomina Mireku, who was part of the delegation, hinted that her ministry was mobilising relief items across the country to alleviate the victims’ plights.

The General Secretary, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, said the coming of the church’s leadership to the affected communities showed the church has love for the people and was concerned about their plights.

According to the Sogakope Area Head, Pastor Godwin Coffie Adzahlie, many church buildings, mission houses, residences of church members, farmlands, and livelihoods have been affected by the floods. At the same time, thousands have been displaced and sheltered in temporal structures.

Later, the Volta RCC Coordinator, Apostle Dr Dela Quampah, and the Sogakope Area Head, Pastor Adzahlie, led the General Secretary, Apostle Obuobi, and his team, riding on a boat, to visit some of the affected places, including the Mepe District Mission House and Central Assembly church buildings which were all submerged in water.

Apostle Gyau Obuobi called on the chief of Mepe and his traditional council to commiserate with them. He also interacted with the North Tongu District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Osborn K. Divine Fenu, at the District Assembly.

He explained that when the fire is burning in the church, God’s presence is inevitable, signs and wonders shall be seen, and many souls shall be won for Christ.

He encouraged presiding elders to pray with the members to make the local church a prayer centre.

This year’s event was unprecedented as it featured continuous nights of prayer, days of fasting, Holy Ghost empowerment, fellowship, and other entertaining activities.
