Ho Area PEMEM Honours Fathers

The Pentecost Men’s Ministry (PEMEM) in the Ho Area of The Church of Pentecost commemorated this year’s Father’s Day celebration in honour of the men and fatherly figures in the Area.

The well-patronised event was held at the PIWC-Ho church auditorium on Sunday, June 20, 2021. Members of the Women’s Ministry was present to celebrate the fathers with their gifts.

Also in attendance were the Ho Area Head and Executive Council member, Apostle Dr. Dela Quampah, and Pastor Philip Kwashie Ackumey, a National Executive Committee member of PEMEM, who was the guest speaker for the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Pastor Philip Ackumey said Fathers’ Day is observed all over the world to honour fathers and as such the church’s involvement in venerating the day further affirms that fatherhood is indeed worth celebrating. He took the opportunity to encourage fathers who may have neglected their responsibilities to assume their roles.

A panel discussion, moderated by Elder Daniel Anyormi, was set up to discuss the topic “The Father’s Legacy” as part of the event. The three-member panel comprised of Apostle Dr. Quampah, Pastor Philip Ackumey and Elder Seth Yaw Peasah of El Bethel Assembly.

From the discussions, it was explained that a legacy is any tangible and intangible asset that one could leave behind for their children. In other words, it is a preserved heritage reserved through a family line.

They also explained that a responsible father is the one who stands on the ground in all situations and lives an exemplary life for the children to emulate. Also, a responsible father personally sees to the upbringing of the children.

A delegation of the Women’s Ministry, led by Mrs. Comfort Quampah (wife of the Ho Area Head and a National Executive Committee member of the Women’s Ministry), gave a solidarity message to the fathers on their special day.

“Fathers’ Day is a period for reflecting on contributions of our fathers – their hard work, and all that they do to keep the home running. You always go the extra mile to see to the upkeep of your children, the family of God, and others. On behalf of women all over the world and in Ho Area, we say Ayekoo!” she said.

The women also took the opportunity to make a humble plea to fathers that, “despite your busy schedule working very hard to satisfy the needs of the family, we plead for you to take some rest out of your busy schedule and to spend quality time with us and the family.”

All the men present at the event were showered with special gifts. Also, a well-decorated cake was cut to climax the Father’s Day celebration amidst colourful cultural displays.

In his remarks, Apostle Dr. Quampah commended the Area PEMEM Executive Committee members for their zeal to move the ministry forward with innovative activities held across the various districts in the Area.

Effiduase Area Undertakes Tree-Planting Exercise

The Effiduase Area of The Church of Pentecost, on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, embarked on a tree-planting exercise aimed at planting over 14,000 trees in the Area.

The event, which was in line with the 1 million tree-planting project of the church, was held at the forecourt of the Ebenezer Assembly church auditorium.

Speaking at a short ceremony to launch the exercise, the Effiduase Area Head, Apostle Daniel Yeboah Nsaful, said that tree-planting is part of the environmental care campaign of the church as enshrined in the five-year strategic vision, dubbed: “Vision 2023: Possessing the Nations.”

“In possessing the nations, there is the need to protect the natural resources God has endowed us with,” he said.

He noted that in previous environmental care campaigns, the church undertook clean up exercises across the nation, but has decided to support the efforts of the government to improve the depleting forest cover of the country.

Touching on the benefits of trees, Apostle Nsaful said trees serve as windbreaks, give shade from the scorching sun, and make the environment beautiful.

He noted that, as part of the exercise, trees would be planted in all mission houses, church premises, residences of members, as well as other parts of the community with the approval of the District Assembly.

He disclosed that some members have been supplied with seedlings at their request to plant in their homes. He urged them to also take good care of them by watering and protecting them from animals till they attain maturity.

The event ended with Apostle Nsaful planting a tree to kickstart the exercise in the Area. The wife of the Area Head, Mrs. Mary Nsaful, and some ministers and officers of the church present at the event, also took their turn.

Apostle Antwi Dedicates 3 Church Buildings In Kissi District

The Cape Coast Area Head and Executive Council Member of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi, has dedicated church buildings for three assemblies of the Kissi District in the Cape Coast Area.

The assemblies are Dompoase, Mt. Zion and Kokwaado. The buildings were dedicated on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

Speaking on the theme: “Praising God for His Presence in the Church” with 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 and 2 Corinthians 6:18-19 as scripture references, the Dominase District Minister, Pastor Felix Zee-Seshie, explained that the act of dedication transforms a person from ordinary to a divine status. This, according to him, is because anytime one dedicates their life to God, He comes to dwell in them.

He, therefore, charged the members to commit to following God as people who carry His presence because He lives in them.

He further stated that the act of dedication elicits the glory of God, saying that “if we want to experience the Glory of God as a Church, we must endeavour to sanctify ourselves.”

Pastor Zee-Seshie urged members to spend time with God in prayer to be always filled with the Holy Spirit, for He is the one who empowers them, helps them to maintain God’s glory in the church, live righteous lives and enables them to understand the word of God and identify false teachings.

In his remarks, Apostle Antwi praised the Kissi District Minister, Pastor Ernest Boakye-Anto, and the entire members for the wonderful work done in ensuring the successful completion of all the church buildings.

He also encouraged them to get involved in the ongoing tree-planting exercise to restore the depleting forest cover of the country while beautifying the environment.

He also admonished them to avoid the indiscriminate cutting down of trees to preserve the environment.

The Chief of Kissi thanked the Area Head for his support in ensuring the completion of the projects, which have given the community a facelift. He also advised the members to embark on massive soul-winning drives to fill the three buildings.

He charged parents to invest in the education of their wards so that they would become responsible adults and members of society.

The dedication ceremony was attended by the pastorate in the Cape Coast Area, the District Executive Committee members, traditional leaders of the community, and member of the Kissi District.

Baakoniaba District Builds Office Block For Nwawasua Pentecost Child And Youth Development Centre

The Baakoniaba District of The Church of Pentecost in the Sunyani Area has constructed an office block for the Nwawasua Pentecost Child and Youth Development Centre in the Bono Region.

The facility which was constructed at the cost of GH¢ 49,735.00 was dedicated by the Sunyani Area Head, Apostle Mark Obeng Andoh, on Friday, June 11, 2021.

The Nwawasua Pentecost Child and Youth Development Centre is a programme partnership between Compassion International and The Church of Pentecost, Baakoniaba District.

The Centre, which was opened in May 2017, is presently catering for 258 children and their families. The objective of the programme is to release children and families from extreme poverty in the name of Jesus through education, skills training and care-giver empowerment.

The construction of the office block started when the partnership programme began in 2017 under Pastor Isaac Ennin Quaicoe, the then District Minister. The current District Minister, Pastor Joseph Awotwe, who took over the administration of the district in 2018, pursued the project through to completion. The office building comprises an office for the programme staff, store room and washrooms.

Nana Kwaku Atuahene, the Chief of Nwawasua, acknowledged and enumerated various developmental projects that The Church of Pentecost has championed in the community. He mentioned the child and youth development centre which, he said, has brought great relief to the less privileged, the construction of a public toilet facility, a nice Community-Based Church Building (CBCB) at Fawokro, and the office block and kitchen for the child and youth development centre.

According to the chief, the projects have given the community a facelift. He, therefore, praised The Church of Pentecost for the good work and promised to offer parcels of land to the church to pursue future projects in the community.

The Baakoniaba District Minister, Pastor Joseph Awotwe, expressed his appreciation to the leadership of the church and the members for the project.

Apostle Obeng Andoh also took the opportunity to lay the foundation stone for the Fawokro Assembly Church building and ordained 11 Officers at Fawokro.

In a brief sermon, Pastor Joseph Quaicoo of Fiapre District, quoted from 1 Peter 2:4-5 and Romans 12:1 and said that the believer is called as a priest or spiritual temple for the Lord.

He emphasized, therefore, that the foundation of the believer should be laid on Christ and dedicated to Him as holy and be offered as sacrifices to the Lord.

ALTOP Wins Maiden National Youth Music Contest

Altar of Praise (ALTOP), the resident choir of the Pentecost International Worship Centre in the Downtown Ofaakor Area (PIWC-Downtown Ofaakor), were crowned overall winners of the recently-held national youth music contest.

The 16-member group earned great plaudits after treating patrons to some moving song ministrations during the grand finale held at the PIWC-Atomic church auditorium last Sunday.

The music contest, a first of its kind, was organised by the Youth Ministry directorate in line with the five-year strategic vision of the church, dubbed “Vision 2023.”

According to the Youth Director, Pastor Ebenezer Hagan, the objective of the competition was to “encourage the music ministries of young people and to create space for it in the local assemblies and by so doing improve the quality of music in the local church.”

With “Unleashing Gifts, Serving the Local Church, Possessing Nations” as the theme for the contest, the contesting groups were evaluated on four focal areas – gospel songwriting, cost-effective musical presentation, teamwork in music, and packaging local church music for a wider audience.

The contest kickstarted at the district level on February 21, 2021, with great promise and overwhelming public interest. At the end of this stage, 460 districts presented choirs to compete at the area level on April 11. However, after a close competition, 60 choirs qualified for the regional or zonal levels.

On May 9, festive contests were held at eight centres throughout the country, after which 12 choirs emerged as semi-finalists. After a rigorous voting process by the judges and the public (via social media), seven choirs were selected to compete at the final stage of the competition. These choirs were: Sanctuary Singers of Ashaiman Estate Central Assembly, Revelation Ministers of PIWC-Tamale and Valley of Blessing of PIWC-Sunyani.

The rest were: Tabernacle of Praise of PIWC-Akim Oda, Triumphant Levites of PIWC-Winneba, PIWC-Kotei Youth Choir and the eventual winners, Altar of Praise (ALTOP), representing the northern, middle, and southern belts.

Opening their ministration with a song titled “Sunsum Kronkron Mehia Wo” (Translated: Holy Spirit I Need You), ALTOP made a lasting impression on the panel of judges with their song composition and vocal ability. They dazzled the audience in the second round of the contest with another outstanding ministration leading to their historic win.

The judges for this year’s contest were: Mrs. Grace Gakpetor (Member of the National Music Committee, a prolific songwriter, and a singer), Pastor Joshua Kwabena Donkor (Head of the Youth Ministry Music Committee and a recording artist) and Pastor Fred Amoakohene Sarpong (Lecturer in Church Music & Worship at Pentecost University and member of the National Music Committee).

Elder Isaac Dwamena (Music Coordinator, PIWC-Atomic) and Mr. Wisdom Taylor (a Music Tutor at Gbewaa College of Education, Pusiga and the Music Director at Mountain View Worship Centre, Kasoa) also served as adjunct judges.

As winners, ALTOP took home a certificate, plaque, and a cash prize of GH¢3,000.00. The Tabernacle of Praise choir and Sanctuary Singers, who emerged second and third respectively, received a certificate, plaque, and cash amounts of GH¢2,000.00 and GH¢1,500.00.

Other group finalists received certificates and an amount of GH¢500.00 each.

Present to grace the event and assist with the presentation of prizes were Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi (General Secretary), Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang-Bekoe (IMD-elect), Apostle Samuel Osei Asante (National Youth Patron and Executive Council Member), and Prophet David Kankam (Ashaiman Area Head and Executive Council Member)

Other dignitaries present were Pastor Emmanuel Oppong Donkor (Member, National Music Committee), Pastor Seth Asare Ofei Badu (National Youth Music Contest Coordinator and member of National Music Committee) and Pastor Isaac Annor (Resident Minister, PIWC-Downtown Ofaakor and Publications Manager at the CoP Headquarters). Also in attendance was the immediate-past chairman of the National Music Committee, Apostle A. L. Angoh (Rtd.) and renowned gospel musician, Elder Dr. Kwasi Mireku.

Chairman Fellowships With PENSA-KNUST To Climax Youth Week Celebration

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, fellowshipped with members of the Pentecost Students and Associates (PENSA) in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to climax the recently-held national youth week celebration on Sunday, June 13, 2021.

According to the Chairman, the visit, which formed part of his working-visit to the Ashanti Region, was to fellowship with the students and take the opportunity to throw more light on the five-year strategic vision of the church dubbed Vision 2023. An understanding of Vision 2023, he said, would enable the youth, who are the strength of the church, to commit more to the realisation of the vision.

Highlighting on five-year strategic vision, Apostle Nyamekye said that Vision 2023 seeks to equip the church to transform every sphere of society (including the family, government and politics, chieftaincy and culture, business and economy, education and science, sports, media, and the world of entertainment) with values and principles of the kingdom of God.

Making references from Deuteronomy 7:1-2; 8:1, 4:5-7 and Ephesians 3:10, the Chairman explained that in the past, the people of Israel were strategically and purposefully chosen by God to reveal His wisdom and character to the world so that in so doing the other nations of the world would return to Him. However, in the New Testament era, God has given this mandate to the Church (Christians). It is, therefore, the obligation of every Christian to demonstrate the wisdom and character of God wherever they find themselves, saying, “Everywhere you are, you must be the Hope of Glory.”

He said that what Vision 2023 aims to achieve is to empower members to “possess the nations” by transforming every worldview, thought and behavior with values, principles, and lifestyles of the kingdom of God, thereby turning many to Christ.

To ensure the effective execution of the vision, the church has put in place three strategic approaches. The first approach is “Equipping members with the required resources,” where members of the local church, who are the main drivers of the Vision, would be empowered and built up holistically through intentional discipleship.

The second approach to the implementation process is “Strengthening and realigning existing structures in the church to propel the transformation agenda.” With this approach, the key areas of consideration is the re-organisation of the ministries, the introduction of Gospel Sunday, and effective Bible Study sessions during services.

Also, the introduction of new ministry interventions such as the Home and Urban Missions (HUM) and the Ministry to Persons with Disabilities (MPWDs) has led to the establishment of more local assemblies in seemingly ‘forbidden’ places.

He further noted that the Chaplaincy ministry as well as the two recently-introduced ministries – Schools Outreach Ministry (SOM) for basic schools and the Chieftaincy Ministry – among others, are in full force and transforming lives.

The third approach, “Transforming Society,” has two legs. The first leg focuses on the deployment of members, who have been equipped, as agents of transformation, while the second leg focuses on community transformation initiatives.

Some of the projects being undertaken as part of the community transformation efforts are the construction of correctional facilities, the first of which has been commissioned and handed over to the Prisons Service, the construction of community health posts (CHPs) compounds, which have been adopted by the Government as fully-fledged clinics, construction of bus stop shelters, construction of boreholes and the Environmental Care campaign, among others.

The Chairman ended his presentation with a short documentary on the impact of the various interventions undertaken under Vision 2023 and the main successes chalked just half-way into the vision period.

Apostle Nyamekye urged the youth not to sit on the fence, but to join in “possessing the nations” for Christ. He further charged them to individually petition God to reveal to them the part they could play to contribute their quota to the successful realization of Vision 2023.
