Agormanya Area MPWD Officially Launched

The Agormanya Area of The Church of Pentecost, under the leadership of Apostle James Gabriel Quardson, has officially launched its Ministry to Persons With Disabilities (MPWD) to sensitise members of the Area and the general public on the significance of the new ministry.

The event, which took place on Thursday, November 26, 2020, brought together Persons living with Disabilities (PWDs) from all the districts in the Area as well as ministers and wives of the Area.

The MPWD is a ‘brainchild’ of the 5-year strategic vision of The Church of Pentecost dubbed Vision 2023 with the overarching goal of “Possessing the Nations – Equipping the Church to transform every Sphere of Society with Values and Principles of the Kingdom of God.”

Speaking at the occasion, the Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, Mrs. Naa A. Ofosu, advised all stakeholders of the society to embrace PWDs so that they would feel part of the society.

She admonished PWDs to judiciously utilize the supports they have been receiving from the Government of Ghana through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development.

The Area Head, Apostle Quardson, on his part, admonished ministers to meticulously commit themselves to the Ministry to Persons with Disabilities for the achievement of the church’s vision in the Area.

He urged the church to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all persons, including PWDs, saying, “Persons with Disabilities are souls that must be incorporated in the discipleship structures of our churches.”

The Yendi Area of The Church of Pentecost has held a day’s stakeholders sensitization workshop for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the theme, “Raising Awareness On Barriers To Inclusion For Persons With Disabilities.”

The event, which took place at the Saboba Central assembly on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, brought together the District Coordinating Director of the Saboba District Assembly, the officer-in-charge of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Leadership of the Disability Associations, members of the Church and the general public. A total of 130 participants attended the programme.

In his exhortation, the Area Head, Pastor Emmanuel Kojo Aidoo, admonished the participants to emulate the love of God shown to them by Christ (John 3:16). He stressed from Matthew 14:13-18 that Jesus Christ also demonstrated his love for humanity by willingly dying on the cross for us. Not only that, he said, Jesus also provided for the vulnerable and weary who had followed him by feeding them with bread and fish.

Pastor Aidoo encouraged the participants to show their love to the less privileged by meeting their physical needs as well. During the altar call, seven (7) participants gave their lives to Christ.

The Yendi Area MPWD Coordinator, Overseer Martin Ossom Boafo, took participants through “Barriers impeding access to the inclusion of PWDs in the society.”

The District officer-in-charge for the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development also treated the topic, “Government Interventions available for PWDs and how to access them.”

The Saboba District District Coordinating Director, Mr. Yakubu Jimah, praised the church for the initiative taken to bring together stakeholders to highlight issues facing PWDs. He used the opportunity to enumerate some government interventions available for PWDs.

Juapong District Holds Non-Denominational Seminar For Persons With Disabilities

The Juapong District in the Agormanya Area of The Church of Pentecost has organised a non-denominational seminar for all persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the area.

The meeting was held on September 13, 2020, at the Juapong Central assembly under the theme, “Ministering to Persons with Disabilities.”

The District Minister, Pastor Joseph Anenyah Ntoso, appreciated the leadership of the Church for introducing the Ministry to Persons with Disabilities (MPWDs) in the Church. He noted that the new ministry has ignited the passion to minister, address, and solve some of the challenges facing the PWDs.

In a sermon which he titled, “In Christ Jesus, Disability is Not Inability” (Genesis 18:14, Exodus 4:11), Pastor Ntoso entreated the PWDs to have faith in Jesus Christ, worship Him alone, and submit to His authority. “Jesus is the only one who can give you hope and a better future. He has all powers to transform your current situation,” he noted.

Referring to Abraham and Sarah’s condition, he explained that God is sovereign and He does things according to His own will, time and purpose. He admonished the PWDs not to despise their current conditions since nothing is too hard for God, saying, “Is there anything difficult for God?” he quizzed.

Using his own life experience as a case study, Pastor Ntoso said that one of his sons who became lamed got up and walked when the Lord intervened. He admonished them to cast all their burdens on Jesus and trust Him for better things because He is aware of their conditions.

The leader of the PWD Association in Juapong, Mr. John Nartey, thanked the leadership of The Church of Pentecost for having the welfare of the PWDs at heart. He, however, pleaded with the government to continually support them as the Church has also come on board. 

The occasion was used to collate a database of all PWDs in the Juapong District. Participants were also made to outline their challenges and requests for future assistance.

The event ended with a refreshment which was sponsored by Pastor Ntoso and his son, Deacon Prosper Anenyah Ntoso. The participants could not hide their joy and appreciation to the Church for the gesture of love demonstrated to them. 44 PWDs including children attended the meeting.

Also in attendance were Elders Solomon Leigh (Assistant Coordinator, Agormanya Area Ministry to Persons With Disabilities), Isaac Owusu (Area MPWD Committee Member), and Deaconess Patience Gyau (Juapong District MPWD Coordinator).

Assakae District PEMEM Supports Persons With Disabilities

The Pentecost Men’s Ministry (PEMEM) of the Assakae District in the Takoradi Area has donated some items to persons with disabilities (PWDs) within Assakae community in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality as part of activities marking the recently held 2020 National PEMEM Week Celebration.

The items were donated on behalf of the men in the district by the District Ministry Leader, Elder Samuel Afriyie Kumah, assisted by the District Minister, Pastor Ernest Perbi-Asare on Friday, September 18, 2020.

Elder Afriyie Kumah, in an interview with PENTECOST NEWS, said that the donation was made to support the livelihoods of PWDs in the community so that they would be able to cope with the economic hardship brought on Ghanaians due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Pastor Perbi-Asare charged members not to discriminate against PWDs in the church as well as in the community but rather show them love by emulating the love that Jesus Christ demonstrated to all humanity.

The District Leader for the Ministry to Persons With Disabilities (MPWDs), Deacon Samuel Nkrumah took the opportunity to explain the church’s vision for the introduction of the MPWDs as captured in the 5-year strategic vision of The Church of Pentecost (Vision 2023: Possessing the Nations) and how the church ensuring the full inclusion of PWDs in the church and society.

The highly-excited PWDs who benefited from the kind gesture were grateful to God that the Assakae District had remembered them in this difficult time.

Deaconess Dinah Adjei Fetes PWDs On 60th Birthday

Deaconess (Mrs) Dinah Oppong Kyera Adjei of the Sarpeiman District in the Achimota Area of The Church of Pentecost celebrated her 60th birthday by organising a special get-together for some persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the church.

The well-patronised event, which took place on Sunday, August 30, 2020, at the Kwashieman Official Town Assembly (KOTA) church auditorium, was organised to thank the Lord for the life of Deaconess Dinah Adjei. The event also marked her retirement from active service in the Ghana Education Service (GES).

According to the retiring deaconess, she was led to mark the occasion with persons with disabilities because they are also creations of God and must not be sidelined in the church. She, therefore, lauded the leadership of the church, particularly the Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, for introducing the Ministry to Persons With Disabilities (MPWDs), which seeks to promote the full inclusion of PWDs in the church and society.

She also expressed gratitude to the National Coordinator of the MPWDs, Overseer Alexander Nyame, who served as the chairperson for the occasion, and other MPWDs members present, for accepting the invitation to join her for the special occasion.

The Deaf Ministry Coordinator, Pastor Reuben Peter Wuni in a brief sermonette at the event commended Deaconess Adjei for the thoughtful gesture.

He said that the gesture is in line with a command by the Lord Jesus in Luke 14:12-14 which admonishes persons with the wherewithal to extend kindness and love to the less privileged or disadvantaged people groups such as persons with disabilities.

He said that PWDs should not be discriminated against in the church and society because they are also children of God.

Pastor Wuni, therefore, urged believers to make conscious efforts to reach out to PWDs and support them when they can, bearing in mind that PWDs also have souls that ought to be saved. “We must not forget that there will be no person with a disability in heaven; we will all be the same,” he asserted.

Present at the event were the Kwashieman Official Town District Minister, Pastor Emmanuel Dzemekey Agbeko, the wife of MPWDs Coordinator, Mrs Evelyn Nyame, officers and members of KOTA as well as relatives and friends of the birthday celebrant.

Don’t Discriminate Against Persons With Disabilities – Overseer Alexander Nyame

The National Coordinator for the Ministry to Persons with Disabilities (MPWDs) of The Church of Pentecost, Overseer Alexander Nyame has charged church members not to discriminate against persons with disabilities in the church and society.

He made this call during a one-day PWDs seminar organised by Frami District in the Cape Coast Area for PWDs as well as members in the District on 8th August 2020.

Speaking at the seminar, the National Coordinator for MPWDs encouraged disabled persons to strive to overcome every obstacle that life and/or people put in their way and not allow their condition to limit their vision and purpose in life.

Quoting from 2 Kings 7:3-5, he stated that, the four lepers decided to take any action which in the end yielded positive result hence the need for PWDs not to lose hope due to their condition but look up to the Lord and pursue their vision and purpose in life.

He took the opportunity to also explain the church’s vision for the establishment of the Ministry to Persons With Disabilities as captured in Vision 2023 and what the church is doing for such people in the church.

He further stated that every soul will be judged including persons with disability hence the urgent need to bring all to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

He, therefore, charged members not to discriminate against persons with disabilities in the church as well as in society but rather show them, love, as our Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated to all humanity. He also called on the church to ensure a friendly and conducive environment to enable PWDs to feel comfortable at church and also involve them in church activities or programmes.

On behalf of the MPWDs, the National Coordinator donated two white canes and a wheelchair to some persons with disability in the Frami District.  The District also purchased and donated a fufu pounding machine to the members with disabilities, which is to be used to generate money to support the livelihoods of PWDs in the District. 

In his remarks, Elder Anthony Adjei Jnr., the Chairman for the Frami District MPWDs Committee, was full of praise to the MPWDs for the support. He also expressed gratitude to the leadership of the District for organising such an insightful seminar as well as donating a fufu-pounding machine.

The seminar was attended by the District Minister, Overseer Daniel Appiah, Mr Desmond Asante and George McClean (MPWDs Volunteers). Also present were Elder Emmanuel Ofori (MPWDs Coordinator for Cape Coast Area) and the Executive Committee members of the District.

Church Of Pentecost Donates Relief Items To Persons With Disabilities

Some persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Accra and Kumasi have received assorted food items worth GHS 15,160.00 from the Ministry to Persons with Disabilities (MPWDs) of The Church of Pentecost.

The donation was made to support the livelihoods of PWDs and enable them to cope with the partial lockdown of the Greater Accra Region and Greater Kumasi metropolis as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in Ghana.

The items, which include bags of rice, cooking oil, tomato paste, canned fish, toilet roll and sachet water, were presented on behalf of the church by the MPWDs Coordinator, Overseer Alexander Nyame on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. He was assisted by the Ashieyie District Minister, Pastor John Odoi Korang.

The donation for the beneficiaries in Accra took place at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, whilst beneficiaries in the Greater Kumasi metropolis received their items at Abuakwa in Kumasi.

Presenting the items, Overseer Nyame said that “in times of crises like this, the less privileged are very vulnerable, but persons with disabilities are more vulnerable, so The Church of Pentecost through the MPWDs, has decided to support our brothers and sisters with disabilities so that together we can survive this pandemic.”

The MPWDs also presented food items worth GHS 2,700.00 to 30 members of the MPWDs mobile church at Okaishie Drug Lane.
