Prayer Is The Business Of The Church – Pastor Tony Mensah

The Resident Minister of Pentecost International Worship Centre, New Tafo (PIWC- New Tafo), Pastor Anthony Kwesi Mensah, has urged Christians to continuously engage in the act of prayer as it remains the business of the church.

“The business of the church is not visitation; neither is it administration nor meetings, but prayer,” he stressed.

According to him, though visitation, meetings and other administrative works play vital role in the growth of the church, the success and effectiveness of these things depends on prayer.

“We cannot substitute a prayer for meeting because without prayer the church will struggle,” he said, adding, “If we don’t pray together, we cannot even agree on certain issues at meetings.”

Pastor Kwesi Mensah said this in a presentation on the topic, “Possessing the Nations Through Prayer” at the M. K. Yeboah Memorial Temple, Krofrom in Kumasi, on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in the New Tafo Zone during the New Tafo Area Officers’ Apostolisation.

Taking his key text from Luke 18:1-8, the Resident Minister underscored the importance of prayer in the “Possessing the Nations” agenda. According to him, prayer is the common way by which a believer engages God.

He further noted that prayer reveals God to the believer, saying, “It is prayer that brings the word of God to life.”

Citing the prayer life of the early church (Acts 2), Pastor Mensah explained that prayer is the life of the church and one of the four pillars the church hinges on.

He, however, bemoaned the lackadaisical attitude of contemporary Christians towards prayer and called on Christians to revive their prayer lives.

Quoting Mark 9:14-29 and Daniel 9, Pastor Anthony Kwesi Mensah pointed out that prayer curtails whatever problem and hardship one goes through in life.

He also entreated church leaders to resort to prayer when choosing people to serve in the leadership positions in the church (Numbers 9).

The 2021 Apostolisation of the New Tafo Area was held from Monday, March 1 to Friday, March 5, 2021, under the theme: “A Glorious Church Revived To Possess The Nations” (Ephesians 3:21; 5:27), at nine zonal centres in the Area.

Apostolisation is an annual programme instituted by the Church to equip and resource lay leaders in order to give them a deeper understanding of the direction of the Church for the particular year.

Children’s Ministry National Training Team Inaugurated(1)

Children’s Ministry National Training Team Inaugurated

The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, today, Wednesday, March 10, 2021, inaugurated the National Training Team of the Children’s Ministry to spearhead the effective training and capacity-building of child workers at the various levels of the church.

The team would also be responsible for the coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of the implementation of the ministry’s vision of “Raising Godly Children to Possess the Nations,” at the grassroot levels of the church.

The eight-member team comprises Dr. Ankamah Lomotey (Chairman), Pastor Peter Adjei (Deputy Chairman), Mrs. Freda Koranteng (Secretary), Pastor Joshua Appiah, Pastor John Afawuah, Pastor George Owusu, Deaconess Mrs. Julie Djaba and Deaconess Mrs. Comfort Azure.

The inauguration took place at a short ceremony at the church’s General Headquarters at La in Accra.

Speaking on the topic: “Paul-Timothy; A Father-Son Relationship” with 1 Corinthians 4:14-17 and 1 Timothy 1:2 as his key Bible references, Apostle Kumi-Larbi stressed the need for the older generation to make conscious efforts to mentor the younger ones.

According to him, it is not enough to impart knowledge into children but also to “parent” or “father” them.”

“Every leader should mentor those behind them. This is the only way for discipleship to take on the multi-generational nature described by Paul in 2 Timothy 2:2,” he said.

Apostle Kumi-Latbi advised the older generation to take a cue from Paul and Timothy’s relationship. He explained that Apostle Paul took particular interest in Timothy’s development and this was why he addressed him as “my true son in the faith” in his letter to him in 1 Timothy 1:2.

Like Apostle Paul, the General Secretary urged adults to draw the children close so that they would be able to influence them positively.

He also noted that relations between mentors and mentees must evolve with time. To buttress this point, Apostle Kumi-Larbi pointed out that “in Romans 16:21, Paul makes a profound statement about his current relationship with Timothy when he addressed him as ‘my fellow worker.’ This implied that Timothy has gone from being a son to a student and had now become a colleague and a co-labourer.”

“We spend plenty of time desiring and praying for more labourers, but perhaps we do not invest enough time in those with the potential to become our partners in the mission,” he further remarked.

The General Secretary, therefore, charged the committee as well as child workers to go the extra mile to creditably discharge their duties in order to raise the standard of the ministry in the church.

Present at the event was the Children’s Ministry Director, Pastor Prof. William Otoo Ellis, and his deputy, Elder Alfred Aidoo.

Chairman Dedicates Samuel Richard Asomaning Memorial Temple

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, on Sunday, March 7, 2021, dedicated the newly-constructed church building of the Samuel Richard Asomaning Memorial Temple in the Asamankese Area of the church.

The beautiful church auditorium, which took three years to complete, has a seating capacity of 1500, two administrative offices, a conference room, library/museum room, a storeroom, Information Technology (IT) centre, a room for lactating mothers, eight washrooms and a spacious car park.

Madam Florence Asomaninwaa was commended for contributing an amount of GHS 1,350,000.00 out of the GHS 2,158,360.00 spent on the project. The remaining funds were raised through grants from the Head Office, the Akim Oda Area, the Asamankese Area, and the Akroso District.

The Chairman was ably supported by the General Secretary, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, the Area Head, Apostle Isaac Ekow Eshun, and the Akroso District Minister, Pastor Anthony K. Obeng.

Other dignitaries present at the event were Apostle Samuel O. Asante (Executive Council Member and Koforidua Area Head), Apostle Seth Kwaku Asomaning (Akim Oda Area Head), Apostle Derek Kwaning Mireku (Agona Swedru Area Head) and Pastor A.E.K. Ekuban (Suhum Area Head).

Delivering a short sermonette titled “Keep the Pentecostal Fire Burning,” Apostle Kumi-Larbi stated that the history of The Church of Pentecost cannot be written without the mention of Akroso because it played a very significant part in the church’s humble beginnings.

He stated that it is incumbent on the current generation to continue to fan into flame the Pentecostal fire lit by the forebears of the church through prayer, rich apostolic teachings, and godly fellowship.

Using Leviticus 6:8-11, Acts 1:4-8, Acts 2:1-4, Acts 2:42 and Luke 11:35 as Bible references, the General Secretary stated that anytime God called people to serve His purpose, He often revealed Himself to them as fire. This, he said, was to indicate that God was with them.

Apostle Kumi-Larbi advised church members to make themselves available and dedicate themselves to God so that His fire will continue to burn in them as it was with their forebears.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, in his remarks, added that the beauty of the temple represents the life of God in the Church and for this reason, the church must keep on fanning into flame the fire they possess for the glory of God to be seen by the watching-world.

He further reiterated that the Asamankese Area and its environs serve as the location where the Pentecostal torch was first lit by the founder of the church, Rev. James McKeown, hence, they must not relent in fanning this great fire into flames.

The Samuel Richard Asomaning Memorial Temple is one of the historic buildings of the church which dates to the early beginnings of the church in the then Gold Coast. Quite rightly, the church has been named after the late Samuel Richard Asomaning, one of the key founding members of The Church of Pentecost and the first ordained apostle of the church.

Apostle S. R. Asomaning was converted into the faith by his brother-in-law, the late Rev. James Smith Kwaku Gyimah, who, according to historical narratives, was among the first persons to have received Holy Spirit baptism in the country in the 1920s. Rev. James Smith, then a Presbyterian Catechist, was disowned by his mother-church because he had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. His expulsion from the church caused him to start preaching the gospel message of Christ on the streets. His evangelism efforts yielded souls for Christ, one of whom was Samuel Richard Asomaning, with whom he started a small prayer group. This group later associated with the Asamankese group led by the late Rev. Peter Anim.

Following the infamous dissociation of Rev. James McKeown by the Asamankese group led by Rev. Peter Anim on the grounds of the “no-medication doctrine,” the Akroso group joined forces with Rev. McKeown and brought him to the town to settle there. At Akroso, Rev. McKeown started a fellowship at his residence in a suburb called Ataakwasi. Rev. S. R. Asomaning later donated a parcel of land where a small thatch was erected by the church to serve as its first place of worship. Thus, the church was moved from Rev. McKeown’s residence.

As church membership grew, there was a need for a permanent and appropriate church structure to be constructed. This led to the construction of the Rev. J. S. Gyimah Memorial Temple in 1975. This edifice is being used by the English Assembly of the Akroso District as a place of worship.

On July 13, 2016, the Akroso District received approval from the Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah-led Executive Council to construct an ultramodern auditorium in memory of Apostle S. R. Asomaning.

Madam Florence Asomaniwah, the only surviving daughter of late Apostle Asomaning, donated a parcel of land to support this cause. The land at the time was siting two separate buildings belonging to the Asomaning family and an old mission house. The buildings were, thus, demolished for the new project to begin.

On Friday, February 26, 2017, the then Akim Oda Area Head, Apostle Kofi Dzemekey, with assistance from Apostle J. S. Gyimah (Rtd.) and the then-District Minister, Pastor Anthony K. Obeng, cut the sod for the commencement of the project.

Apostle Peter K. Dzemekey and Apostle Seth Kwaku Asomaning also supervised the project at various stages of construction when they took over as Akim Oda Area Heads. The Asamankese Area Head, Apostle Isaac Eshun, however, supervised the final stages of the project after the Akroso District was ceded to the Asamankese Area in 2019.

In attendance at the dedication ceremony were Nana Kwabena Ofori II (Chief of Akroso), Hon. Joyce Korang Aboagye (Member of Parliament – MP, Akim Asena-Manso-Akroso) Hon. Mercy Adu-Gyimfi (Former MP, Akwatia), other opinion leaders of Akroso and the family members of the late Apostle S. R. Asomaning.

Christians Urged To Save Their Dying Situations - Aps Gakpetor2

Christians Urged To Save Their Dying Situations

The Anyaa-Ablekuma Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Kojo Gakpetor, has advised Christians to wake up and save every dying situation in their Christian life.

Addressing church officers at the Anyaa Zone of the Anyaa-Ablekuma Area as part of the 2021 Apostolisation programme, Apostle Gakpetor revealed that “revival cannot come when certain things are not done right. So, it is about time we sat up and dealt with all those things that are killing our Christian lifestyle.”

Apostle Gakpetor identified some of the things that hinder revival and church growth and also kill the spiritual life of Christians. He cautioned believers to be wary of such acts and make every effort to eradicate them entirely from their lives.

Among the things that retard revival, he mentioned, are when believers or the church loses the zeal of evangelism, when the church ceases to pray together, and when the church ceases to discipline members who sin. He said that God hates sin, so a church full of sinners will not see revival.

He further stated that when the church refuses to raise godly leaders, that church will eventually quench its fire. He, therefore, entreated churches and leaders not to trade on leadership, saying, “Leadership should not be bought.”

The Anyaa-Ablekuma Area Head pleaded with church leaders and Christians as a whole to eschew negative tendencies that will hinder the revival that they are yearning for and quench the fire in them.

Supporting his sermon with scriptures from Revelations 3:1-6, he implored Christians not to be like people who are generally seen to be doing well but in an actual sense spiritually dead. “Be watchful and strengthen the things which remain and are ready to die,” he stressed.

As a way of igniting the fire and getting the revival the church seeks, Apostle Samuel Gakpetor admonished Christians to repent from ways that quench the fire and live a life that will revive them.

Encouraging church leaders to be bold and take their positions to do what is expected of them, he stated, “Church leadership is a war, therefore, we must fight it and win.

“A leader must be vigilant and straighten all ways that seem crooked to ensure sanity in the church.”

Avoid Mockery – Pastor Oduro Advises Christians

The Yennyawoso District Minister of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor Charles Oduro, has admonished Christians involved in mockery to immediately desist from the act as it tends to breed violence.

Recounting a story of an Elder of the Church who committed suicide for being ridiculed by the wife, Pastor Oduro emphasised that “mockery is a grave sin which is tantamount to contempt.”

“We must respect ourselves and avoid making fun of each other,” he advised.

Pastor Oduro made this known in a sermon he preached when he fellowshipped with members of the Airport Assembly on Sunday, February 28, 2021, during the christening and dedication of Elder Emmanuel Nana & Mrs. Patricia Nsiah’s child.

Reading from Genesis 21:9-21, the District Minister talked about the vulnerability of children.

In his exposition, the man of God revealed that children are gifts from God and that they need to be loved and cared for.

According to him, many children end up on the street for lack of parental care. He, therefore, admonished parents and guardians to give their wards a good foundation by providing for them and living a life worthy of emulation (Galatians 6:7).

With further reference to Genesis 21:19 and Luke 24:31, Pastor Charles Oduro attributed the hardships majority of Christians go through to the fact that they are destitute of spiritual eyes.

“Hagar was living around a well of water, yet she was dying of thirst until God opened her eyes to see. Like Hagar, many Christians are sitting on money but they are wallowing in abject poverty because they have no spiritual eyes. May the Good Lord open your eyes so that you see the good things around you,” he prayed.

Pastor Oduro further urged believers to strive to know the will of God for their lives so that they walk in it (Ephesians 1:17-18), saying, “If you get to know the will of God for your life and you walk in it, whatever He (God) has said concerning your life shall come to pass.”

To know God’s will for one’s life, the Yennyawoso District Minister charged the congregants to be prayerful and studious of God’s word. He also entreated them to plan their lives but not to wholly put their trust in what they plan, cautioning that, “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

PENTSOS Constructs Borehole For PPS-Sawla

The Sawla Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle William Ohemeng-Kwakye, has commissioned a borehole constructed by the Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS) Directorate for the Pentecost Preparatory School, Sawla (PPS-Sawla).

The borehole was constructed to provide safe drinking water for staff and pupils of the school as well as members of the Sawla community and its environs.

Speaking at the commissioning service held on Monday, February 22, 2021, Apostle William Ohemeng-Kwakye said that Jesus is the living water who quenches the thirst of anyone who drinks of Him.

Referring to John 4:1-14, he further noted that although natural water gives life, it does not give eternal life, therefore, all must accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal saviour because He is the water that can sustain one’s life eternally.

The Sawla Area Head entreated the final-year students, who would be the first batch of the school to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), to be serious with their studies in order to pass the exams with flying colours, in that way others would be encouraged to enrol into the school.

He also entreated the school management to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.

Pastor Maxwell Nti, the Area Local School Manager, on behalf of management and the pupils, thanked the Executive Council and the PENTSOS Directorate for the borehole and pledged to ensure it is well maintained to serve its intended purpose.

Present at the event were the ministers and wives in the Sawla Zone.

Kwadaso Area Holds Officers’ Apostolisation

The Kwadaso Area of The Church of Pentecost, under the leadership of Apostle J. B. K. Tawiah, held this year’s Officers’ Apostolisation (Retreat) from Wednesday, February 24 to Friday, February 27, 2021. The programme was organised at the zonal level under the theme: “A Glorious Church Revived to Possess the Nations”.

Apostle John B. K. Tawiah spoke on the topic “Possessing the Nations through Prayer” with references from Ephesians 3:21, Ephesians 5:27, James 5:16-18 and Ephesians 6:10-18 during the first day of the event at the Kwadaso Central Assembly church auditorium.

In his presentation, the Area Head reminded church leaders of the need to revive their personal prayer life and that of the church.

He asserted that prayer sustains the work of God, hence, the absence of prayer affects the spiritual life of the church.

Apostle Tawiah further stressed that “The Church of Pentecost is a praying church. This church has time-tested, firmly-grounded and well-established prayer life which we are not prepared to sacrifice for anything.”

Using the prayer life of Elijah from 1 Kings 18:40-42 as an example, Apostle Tawiah explained that prayers offered outlive the people who offer them.

According to him, Elijah’s prayers were fervent and prevailing and for this reason, it produced great results. He said that “if we want to experience the move of God in our lives, cause God to restore our lands and cause Him to help us take possession of the nations, then we must pray fervently.”

He also urged the church to rise in prayer to confront contemporary philosophies and lofty arguments of the world as Elijah did, reiterating that “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through Christ to pull down strongholds and every argument that set itself up against the knowledge of God” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). He further quoted Ephesians 6:12 to buttress his assertion that only prayer could grant Christians victory over their enemies.

The Kwadaso Area Head, therefore, encouraged ministers and officers of the church to revive their prayer lives. He said that prayer is a catalyst for the revival the church needs, emphasising that “a prayerless church is as good as dead. The presence of God will always fill our meetings when prayer prevails in the church.”

Apostle Tawiah concluded his sermon by urging participants to raise prayer warriors and intercessors at their respective local assemblies and districts to stand in the gap in prayer so as to maintain the spiritual fervour of the church.

He also advised officers to desist from copying prayer patterns that have no biblical basis.

Pray, Preach The Word And Give Towards Kingdom Business – Apostle Otu Nyarko Tells Christians

The Finance and Administration Director (FAD) of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Lawrence Otu Nyarko, has impressed upon Christians to be fervent in prayer, preach the word of God and give to support God’s work.

“These are the three pillars that a glorious church hinges on; prayer, preaching the word of God and paying tithes as well as offerings, including supporting ministers of God,” he said, adding, “God works in partnership with all three, and if one is broken, the church cannot stand.”

Apostle Otu Nyarko said this in a sermon on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) – Sakumono, to climax the Teshie-Nungua Area Apostolisation Week and the First Area Week celebration.

Preaching on the theme, “A glorious church revived to offer,” he said that offering is very important unto the Lord, saying, “Abel did it very well and the fragrance of his offering was acceptable and pleasing unto the Lord.”

Reading from Ephesians 5:25-27, he stated that God wants Christians to be holy and blameless and that the Lord expects them to offer their lives first as a sacrifice, then their time and their substance.

He explained the importance of all the pillars to the growth of a revived church. Stressing on the third pillar of a glorious church which is paying tithes and offerings, Apostle Otu Nyarko emphasized the essence of giving oneself to the Lord fully and wholly, paying their tithes and ministering to men of God since they are the Levites in our time (Deuteronomy 10: 8-9, Numbers 18:20-21).

The Finance and Administration Director indicated that when a believer encounters the Lord, the light that is in the Lord is transmitted into that person, hence Christians are to affect the society with Christian/kingdom values.

The week-long Apostolisation programme was under the theme, “A glorious church revived to possess the nations. (Ephesians 3:21, 5:27, Hebrews 3:2). Various speakers, such as Apostle Rigwell Ato Addison (Rtd.), Pastors David Alex Adwere of Lashibi District, Captain Collins Badu Agyapong, of E. D. Aninkorah Worship Centre, Percy Nii Tackie Otoo of Odikoman District and Joshua Appiah of Teshie-Nungua Estate District, took turns to minister at the PIWC-Sakumono.

The celebration which was dubbed, “A Glorious Church Revived to Build a House for God’’ – Ephesians 3:21, Nehemiah 2:17-18, took place from 15th to 21st February 2021.

Highlights of the weeklong activities included fasting and prayers, health and business talk, clean-up exercise, fundraising and special thanksgiving service.

The glamorous event was attended by many dignitaries including Apostle Samuel Osei Asante (Koforidua Area Head/Executive Council Member), Apostle Lawrence Otu-Nyarko (Finance and Administration Director at the Headquarters), Apostle Michael Collins Asiedu (Rtd.), and Apostle David Yeboah Asare (Rtd.).

Dan Kwaku Botwe (Minister Designate for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development and Member of Parliament for Okere Constituency), Elder Dr. Ken Aboah, Elder Dr. Emmanuel Kwasi Mireku (Gospel Artiste), Elder Samuel Larbi Darko, Elder Emmanuel Donkor, Elder Samuel Larbi Gyampo (Queens New York), among others.

In a short remark, the Koforidua Area Head, Apostle Samuel Osei Asante, called on all and sundry, especially natives of the town to support the church building project, both financially and materially.

Apostle Lawrence Otu-Nyarko (FAD), on his part, noted that God works through humans for His glorification. In possessing the nations for Christ, he indicated that the church has a duty to put up a building to contain the members and the souls won for Christ.

Apostle Michael Collins Asiedu (Rtd.), who was the second Minister of the District, from 1989-1993, appealed to all natives of the district to join this worthy cause of building the new church auditorium.

Pastor Francis Broni (District Minister) gave details of the state of the project and how the building would look like after completion. He said that the project will be a storey building with a seating capacity of more than 1,200 people. It will also have three children’s apartments, a lactation apartment for nursing mothers, a conference room, an audio-visual apartment, a sound control room, washrooms, baptistry and offices.

Pastor Broni encouraged all ministers of the church as well as officers and members who hail from Adukrom and its environs to support the project.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Dan Botwe, promised to support the project and volunteered to become the project ambassador. He expressed his appreciation to The Church of Pentecost for the tremendous work it is doing in the country. He further commended the Church for putting up police stations, modern prison facilities, health centres and other interventions in various parts of the country.

The MP was particularly grateful to the Church for the support that it extended to the Government and people of Ghana in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic by giving out the Pentecost Convention Centre to the Government as an Isolation Centre.

General Secretary, IMD, Area Heads In Greater Accra Get Vaccinated

The General Secretary, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, and the International Missions Director, Apostle Emmanuel Gyesi Addo, today, Tuesday, March 2, 2021, led a delegation of ministers of The Church of Pentecost to take the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the La Polyclinic in Accra.

Among the ministers who were vaccinated were Ministry Directors, Area Heads, and other ministers on secondment.

The Church of Pentecost, through a Communique issued on February 21, 2021, by the Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, approved of the administration of the COVID-19 vaccines and urged members to get vaccinated when the opportunity arises.

The position of the church followed a recommendation by a technical committee, made up of experts with a diverse background, including Theologians, Pharmacists, Clinicians, Public Health Consultants, Lawyers, Psychologists, Social Workers, among others, put together by the leadership of the church to evaluate the vaccines and the myths regarding it.

The mass vaccination exercise was therefore undertaken by the ministers as part of efforts by the leadership of the church to promote public confidence in the efficacy of the vaccine and to disabuse the minds about the conspiracies surrounding it.

In a related development, the immediate past Chairman of the church, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah (Rtd.) took a jab of the vaccine earlier today at the Pentecost Hospital at Madina in Accra following the official launch of the mass vaccination exercise at the hospital.

It is also worth noting that Apostle Eric Nyamekye became one of the first recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine when he joined the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and other dignitaries in the country to take the jab on Monday, March 1, 2021, at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

On Wednesday, February 24, the government of Ghana took delivery of 600,000 doses of COVAX vaccine from the World Health Organisation (WHO), thus, becoming the first country in Africa to receive the vaccine. This was received with mixed feelings by the Ghanaian populace, some of whom have expressed doubts and mistrust about the COVID-19 vaccine.

The nationwide COVID-19 vaccination exercise by the Ghana Health Service began today in 43 districts in three regions of the country – Greater Accra, Ashanti and Central. A total of 20 million Ghanaians are expected to be vaccinated against the virus by the end of the exercise.
