The Church Of Pentecost Commissions Kaleo Weaving Centre

The Wa Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Daniel Nii Tetteh Tackie, on Thursday, August 4, 2022, commissioned a weaving centre for smock and kente making constructed by the Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS) at Kaleo, a community in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

The project falls under the Economic Empowerment Programme (EPP) of PENTSOS, which seeks to economically empower church members, especially the youth, to gain sustainable employment.

Apostle Tetteh Tackie, in his welcome address, indicated that the centre is in line with the transformation agenda of the Church, dubbed “Vision 2023: Possessing the Nations.”

He thanked the Executive Council for the impactful vision. He also applauded the Kaleo District Minister of the Church, Pastor Sampson Agyei, and the Kaleo District Executive Committee for initiating the training programme to provide employable skills and reduce urban migration among the youth.

The Domwine District Minister, Pastor Felix Opoku, in a short exhortation based on 1 Samuel 21:8-9, encouraged staff and trainees to make every effort to take good care of the centre.

In a brief remark, Elder Ing. Frank Adutwum, the Operations Coordinator of PENTSOS, said it is the vision of the leadership of the Church to provide income-generating ventures for her members, hence the construction of the centre.

He noted that the centre comprises a training area, an office and a storeroom for the vocation.

Elder Adutwum further indicated that three similar projects have been completed at Temaa in the Walewale (for sewing) Area and Daloagyili in the Tamale Area (for weaving, sewing and hairdressing) and Zebilla in the Bawku Area (for smock weaving).

“In all. 220 youth are being trained in these four centres,” he said.

The Kaleo Weaving Centre started in 2019 with four apprentices. The centre currently boasts 50 trainees, out of whom 13 have successfully graduated after passing their National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) exams. In addition to the centre, the Wa Area of the Church runs two smock-weaving centres at Wa and Wapani.

The commissioning of the centre was witnessed by a cross-section of the area pastorate and their wives, the Chairperson of Upper West Weaving Association, the Chairperson for the Kaleo Weaving Association, family members of graduands and members of the Church.

PIWC-Sakumono’s 6-Storey Children’s Auditorium In the Offing

The Teshie-Nungua Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Wilberforce Nkrumah Agyemang, has laid the foundation stone for the ongoing children’s block project of Pentecost International Worship Centre, Sakumono (PIWC-Sakumono).

The short ceremony was held on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the premises of PIWC-Sakumono.

The six-storey building project, upon completion, would comprise auditoriums for various age groups and resource centres to help the smooth running of the ministry in the church.

Speaking on the topic, “Equipped to Stand firm,” Apostle Nkrumah-Agyemang stated that believers are bound to be tested in the Christian journey and must therefore stand firm in such trying moments.

“Assuredly as we live on this earth, we cannot escape from trials; we will be tested. However, we can only be victorious over trials when we are firmly rooted in the word of the Lord. Purpose in your heart not to sin against God,” he said.

Using Matthew 7:24-27 and Psalm 11:3 as scriptural references, the Area Head further noted that Christ is the only assurance of a firm foundation upon which believers should build. He, therefore, urged Christians to have faith in God and not to rely on men, who could fail or disappoint them.

Speaking in an interview with PENTECOST NEWS, Apostle Kwarteng said that the purpose of the project is to provide a befitting place of gathering for the children to worship.

According to him, the children’s block would have adequate classrooms to accommodate children of all ages and teens.

He also revealed that the project would have a library, a recording studio, an infirmary, and a baptistery.

Apostle Kwarteng expressed gratitude to the leadership of The Church of Pentecost and the Teshie-Nungua Area for the immense support.

The Church of Pentecost Donates Laptops to University of Ghana

The Church of Pentecost has set the pace by being the first institution to donate 30 pieces of laptops towards the University of Ghana’s ‘One Student, One Laptop Initiative’ at a short ceremony held at the Legon Campus, yesterday.

As part of its strategic vision to achieve world-class status, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana (UG) is leading the university towards ‘creating a culture that promotes research, teaching and learning, administrative processes and extension activities driven by technology and anchored in humanism’ for the benefit of all stakeholders.

In this regard, various initiatives are underway to enhance stakeholder experience through digitalisation.

The Vice-Chancellor in relation to this identified the following three-pronged technology-driven initiatives to enhance the experience of students, faculty, and staff:  Classroom Modernisation, One Student One Laptop (1S1L), and Hot-Spot Comfort Zones.

Briefing the church about the project, Professor Gordon Awandare, Chairman of the Implementation Committee, who doubles as the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, UG, indicated that the school seeks strategic partnerships from individuals and corporate bodies.

“We are reaching out to corporate bodies interested in participating in this, for the purpose of advertisement. Companies can adopt a classroom and modernize it,” the Pro VC said.

Professor Amfo lauded the church for the kind gesture and assured that the laptops would be fairly distributed to needy students who merit it.

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, pledged the continuous support of the church towards the project as a move to assist students in their academic laurels.

The Chairman also used the opportunity to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor on her appointment as the 1st Female Vice-Chancellor for the University of Ghana. He further encouraged her to trust in God in the discharge of her duties to achieve greater things in office.

Apostle Nyamekye then introduced the appointed Resident Campus Minister for the university, Pastor Kwadwo and Mrs. Eunice Obeng, to the management and urged the leadership of the university to support his pastoral activities on campus.

With dwindling governmental support due to competing national needs, Management of the University of Ghana seeks the support of benevolent donors from within and outside the University to finance the initiatives.

PIWC-Tamale Donates To Tamale Central Prison

Pentecost International Worship Centre in the Tamale Area of The Church of Pentecost (PIWC-Tamale), through its Evangelism Ministry, has donated items worth GHS 3,140.61 to inmates of the Tamale Central Prison.

The items, which include bags of rice, cooking oil, packs of toilet rolls, pairs of slippers, washing powder, toothpaste and toothbrushes, were presented to officials of the prison on behalf of the church by a delegation led by Elder Sampson Nyamalor (the District Secretary) and Elder David Kofi Bajke (District Evangelism Ministry Leader). The others were Elder Jacob Ordatei Lantei, Elder Obed Adu-Amankwaah and Mrs. Sarah Naa Adaku Blankson (Wife of the Resident Minister)

Speaking on the theme, “Jesus Christ; The Hope of the World,” Elder David Kofi Bajike, said that the ministry of Christ Jesus on earth brought hope to all humanity.

He explained that the disciples strongly believed in Jesus Christ whilst He was with them, but gave up on Him after He died on the cross.

“While He was alive, they saw Jesus as their hero and champion, fulfilling the prophecy of Prophet Isaiah about the coming Messiah. But, when He ended up on the cross, many of the disciples gave up hope,” he said.

He further noted that the resurrection of Christ Jesus, however, restored the hope they had in Him, adding that: “This hope is still alive today and can be tapped into by the entire human race.”

After the sermon, Elder Obed Adu-Amankwaah led the inmates to receive Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour. He also prayed for all inmates of the prison as well as the wardens.

The leader of the inmates thanked the church for her timely gesture. He also appealed to the church to support them with canopies to provide shade during church services.

Christian Ministry Is Both Sacred And Secular – Apostle Tiakor

The Ashanti Bekwai Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Fred Tiakor, has advised Christians, particularly ministers of the Gospel, to uphold Christian values and principles in all facets of life, emphasising that “the Christian ministry is both sacred and secular”.

Apostle Tiakor said this last Sunday during a word ministration at the retirement service for Pastor Raymond and Mrs. Sarah Hagan at the Berea Assembly church auditorium.

Speaking on the topic, “The Ins and Outs of Ministry,‟ the Ashanti-Bekwai Area Head said that from time to time, God, through the Holy Spirit, calls men from among people to serve His purpose on earth. He, however, stressed that the divine call is not only limited to spiritual things but also involves other aspects of life.

Reading from 2 Timothy 2:1-6, Apostle Tiakor described the minister as a good soldier, a good athlete, and a hardworking farmer.

He further explained that, as a soldier, the Christian is expected to endure hardship, be disciplined and uphold high standards at all times.

“He, therefore, must persevere through the hardships associated with ministerial duties to meet those high standards,” he stated.

He said that demands on ministers in contemporary times are so high and it requires hard work to be able to meet them, saying: “the minister has to work hard as a farmer to get the required harvest.”

Citing the ministry of Apostle Paul in Ephesus, he said that, although the work of ministry is very challenging, the Apostle worked hard among the people and lived by example (Acts 20: 32-35).

Apostle Tiakor, therefore, congratulated Pastor Hagan for actively serving the Lord and His church for 29 years as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

He encouraged the congregants to honour and revere ministers of the Gospel because they are God’s mouthpiece and ambassadors of Heaven.

The colourful ceremony was attended by the Ashanti Bekwai Area pastorate and their wives, as well as active and retired ministers from other areas of the Church.

Christians Urged To Be Intentional About Soul-Winning

The Berekum Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Berko, has urged believers to be deliberate and strategic in their efforts to win souls for Christ.

He made this call on Saturday, July 23, 2022, during the Berekum Area Presbytery meeting.

Speaking to the theme, “How Far Can You Go to Win Souls for Christ,” with 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 as a scriptural reference, Apostle Berko advised Christians to take a cue from how politicians descend to the level of voters to win their hearts during the election period.

“Some politicians join public transports, turn into hairdressers, food sellers, and dine with people on the streets just to persuade them for their votes,” he explained.

He pointed out that military officers commit to defending their nations at the peril of their lives, and urged Christians to emulate the life of Jesus Christ and Apostle Paul, who served the Lord even to the point of death.

The Berekum Area Head further noted that Jesus Christ ate with tax collectors, and spent time with the rejected, marginalised, and sinners, all in an effort to rescue them from sin. Apostle Paul also made himself all things to all people in order to win them for Christ, he added.

Apostle Berko, therefore, charged Christians to enter every nook and cranny (palaces, schools, homes, ghettos, bars, and lorry stations) to lead more people into the kingdom of God.

Be Positive Role Models For Your Children – Chairman Charges Christian Parents

Christian parents have been charged to spare no effort to live exemplary lives in words and in  deeds for their children to emulate.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, who gave this charge in a live televised sermon last Sunday on PENT TV, stressed the need for parents to be practitioners of what they say as such will have a positive influence on the lives of their children, saying, “Young people expect their parents to live a life consistent to what they profess.”

Referencing a quote by Albert Schweitzer, a German theologian, who once said: “There are only three ways to teach a child. The first is by example; the second is by example; and the third is by example,” Apostle Nyamekye said that an exemplary lifestyle of parents is one of the best ways to instruct children (1 Peter 5:2-3).

He further noted that a consistent religious pattern of behaviour in the home is a vital key to successful spiritual adjustment.

“The attitude we portray in the home as parents is a true reflection of our real self,” he said with reference to a quote by D. L. Moody, who once said: “A man ought to live so that everyone knows he is a Christian and most of all, his family ought to know.”

Speaking on the topic: “Relating To Distant Grown-up Children,” as part of his series on ‘Raising Family Altars,’ Apostle Nyamekye stated: “There is the need to underscore at this point that even when children are grown-up and are miles away from home, they need to be discipled.” According to him, discipleship is not limited to only Bible Study, but through prayer as well.

Reading from 1 Peter 1:1-2; James 1:1-3, and Colossians 1:9-10, the Chairman explained how the early apostles followed up on the distant believers with letters and prayers as a way of encouraging and discipling them. Likewise, he urged parents to get in touch with their children who are far-off home and check on their relationship with Christ. This, he said, could be done virtually.

“The contemporary communication technology has made this much easier; distance should no longer be a barrier to discipling our grown-up children who are miles away from home. We can have virtual meetings with them,” he indicated.

Apostle Nyamekye revealed that young people expect a lot from their parents, which according to him, include understanding, patience, listening ears, sincerity, rebuke, consideration, positive models, correction, guidance, playfulness, attention, success, and wisdom. He, therefore, urged parents to ensure that these expectations are met to encourage the children to voluntarily come and enjoy the fire that has been lit on the family altar.

The Chairman also charged Christian parents to let their marriage and family life portray the beauty of Christ to the world.

“As Christians we should reflect Christ in our marriage and family life. In so doing, we would set a good example for the world to emulate, and that is our target; and to prove that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the way, the truth and the life,” he concluded.
