Mampong Area Children’s Ministry Organises Training Workshop For Ministers’ Wives

The Mampong Area Children’s Ministry of The Church of Pentecost organised a one-day workshop for the ministers’ wives within the area.

The workshop, a novelty of the Area Head, Apostle Samuel Asare, was held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, and aimed at equipping minister wives to take direct involvement in the children’s ministry affairs of the various districts.

The workshop was facilitated by Pastor Vincent Cudjoe Amuzu (Area Children’s Ministry Leader, Area Executive Committee Member, and Kofiase District Pastor) and Mrs. Ruth Afrah Koomson (Area Children’s Ministry Executive Member and Wife of Nsuta District Minister).

Participants were taught how to use the ministry’s syllabi to teach children by Mrs. Ruth Koomson. She began her presentation by saying, “Just as we prayerfully prepare and deliver sermons at adult congregations, the story should not be different if we really want to make the needed impact in a children’s ministry class.”

She further explained that Bible stories and memory verses should not be taught in the same class or session with the children on the same day.

“These are to be separated to help the children properly comprehend what we want to teach them on a particular day, class, or session,” she added.

She emphasised that “it is always advisable to separate the children according to their age grouping (0-6, 7-9, and 10-12) for the sake of their comprehension or absorption capacity.”

Mrs. Koomson also stressed that lessons from the Bible stories should be outlined to the children rather than just narrating the stories to them.

Pastor Vincent Cudjoe Amuzu, in turn, took participants through the concepts of the Community Children’s Club (CCC), Jethro Initiative (JI), Box Library, and My Community My Responsibility.

He encouraged participants to employ these insightful, playful, and colourful initiatives proposed by the Children’s Ministry directorate to plant Jesus in the hearts of our children.

There was also a breakout session where participants were grouped and made to practice what they had learned.

In a brief remark at the event, Apostle Samuel Asare admonished participants to take the training seriously to help impact the children in the Area, especially when the ministry is challenged with inadequate Children-Workers.

“The area is positioned to offer you all the necessary support as far as this initiative is concerned in order not to leave these God-given children out of the maximum impact agenda,” he passionately added.

The event, which coincided with ministers’ wives’ monthly prayer meeting, also had in attendance Mrs. Beatrice Asare (Wife of the Area Head).

Anyaa District Launches Box Library web

Anyaa District Launches Box Library

The Anyaa District in the Anyaa-Ablekuma Area of The Church of Pentecost launched the box library for the Children’s Ministry on Sunday, May 28th, 2023, at a cost of GHȼ10,000.00.

The event, chaired by the District Minister, Pastor Emmanuel Teye Sackitey, was graced by Pastor Emmanuel Ofori Opoku (Area Children’s Ministry Leader) and Pastor George Osei-Asiedu (Dwenewoho District).

During the launch, Pastor Ofori Opoku commended the District Pastor for his bold initiative and for adding value to the vision, making it a reality.

He reiterated the vision of the box library to the gathering and encouraged the Children’s Ministry workers to stock the library while advising the children to take good care of the books.

In his speech, Pastor Teye Sackitey emphasised the numerous benefits of developing the habit of reading at an early stage of development.

He pointed out that despite the advantages of reading, the high cost of books discourages parents from purchasing more for their children. The box library project aims to mitigate this challenge.

Pastor Sackitey expressed deep appreciation for the commitment shown by the presiding elders of the five local assemblies in the district (Anyaa Central, Maranatha, Bethel, Nsumfa, and Berea) by raising the funds needed to make the launch possible.

He also praised the Children’s Ministry workers in the district for their dedication to duty, specifically highlighting their devotion to hold monthly fasting and prayer exercises for the children, while encouraging the teachers to continue their good work.

The bookshelves for the library cost GHȼ7,500.00, and an additional GHȼ2,500.00 was spent on books as initial materials.

The Central Assembly set an example by stocking their shelves properly. The purchased books, included children’s dictionaries, moral novels, packs of flashcards, French storybooks, inspirational books, and more.

Pastor Sackitey also donated church publications and diaries worth GHȼ1,000.00 for use in the library.

As part of the event, the teachers received instruction on monitoring the children’s reading habits and guiding them to understand what they read.

In total, 21 teachers and 55 children from the five local assemblies in the district attended the event.

Assin Foso Area Registers 2,086 Children Onto NHIS

The Children’s Ministry of The Church of Pentecost in the Assin Foso Area has registered a total of 2,086 children onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

This took place during a two-day medical outreach the Church organised for children in some deprived communities in the Area.

The event, which took place in five centres, namely Assin Tebil, Assin Nnuannua, Assin Bereku, Assin Akropong and Assin Hasowode, brought together hundreds of children who were assessed and treated for various health conditions such as malaria, worm infestation, malnutrition, skin rashes among others. Children whose NHIS cards had expired were renewed.

Speaking to the media, Pastor Samuel Avornyo, the Area Children’s Ministry Leader, noted that the gesture was motivated by the concern for the physical well-being of children in deprived communities.

He added that the Area recorded some preventable child mortality cases in its annual reports, hence the outreach.

Pastor Avornyo thanked Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited and Elder Francis Mensah for donating drugs towards the project. He also paid glowing tribute to Elder Sam (Assin Foso Area Executive Assistant) for supporting financially to register some of the children onto the NHIS.

At the end of the two-day event, 906 people (898 children and eight adults) were screened and treated for various ailments, while 40 others were referred for further medical examination. To the glory of God, 153 souls, comprising 129 children and 24 adults, were won for the Lord.

Parents and children who benefitted from the medical outreach were full of praise to The Church of Pentecost and the sponsors.

Principal Officers Brewed In The Pot Of The Children’s Ministry WEB

Principal Officers Brewed In The Pot Of The Children’s Ministry

The just-ended 46th session of the General Council Meetings of The Church of Pentecost has left memorable events worth recounting. If there had ever been a time the Children’s Ministry has been given prominence, it was at that meeting. Aside from the many children who were recognised by the Chairman for excelling in their various fields of endeavour, our indefatigable Director, Pastor Professor William Otoo Ellis, was recognised for putting up and donating a state-of-the-art Children’s Resource Centre to the church and for introducing various flagship initiatives and activities in the ministry. Again, our affable Patron, Prophet David Kankam Beditor, also successfully ended his five-year meritorious service as an Executive Council Member of the church.

And oh, the bombshell that shattered and continues to reverberate in the minds of many is that the children membership of 1,120,524 at the end of 2022 makes up 31.1% of the total church membership. This gave rise to a call by leadership to pay closer attention to this critical mass. And lest I forget, God performed a miracle of raising the dead through a child.

As I sat through the proceedings and watched the elections of our principal officers, the Holy Spirit struck a chord in my heart. I could clearly draw a line of semblance that tied all the three Principal Officers-the Chairman-elect, the General Secretary-elect and the International Missions Director-into one bundle. That is the fact that they have all had a taste of the Children’s Ministry!

During the closing session of the Maiden Foundation Builders Conference held by the Children’s Ministry at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Chairman of the church, testified of his conversion and early Christian nurturing through the Community Good News Club, which is currently an appendage of the Children’s Ministry.

Again, a cursory search of the background of Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, the General Secretary-elect, reveals that he was born after 12 years of no issue after marriage to Pastor Fred T. Obuobi, the oldest surviving retired Minister of The Church of Pentecost. History has it that a 12-year-old girl who had just received the baptism of the Holy Spirit at a prayer meeting at Adeiso gave a prophetic word that his parents would give birth to a son and that they should name him Samuel. A year later, the prophetic word came true at their new station, Shama, and they named him Samuel Kwabena Nyamekye Gyau Obuobi. As a son of a Pastor, he no doubt immersed him in the Children’s Ministry.

From the grave vine, our current International Missions Director, Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe, is also a son of a Deaconess in the church. There is, therefore, a high percentage chance of being introduced to the activities of the Children’s Ministry at a tender age.

One peculiar thing about the wives of these revered principal officers of the church, too, is that they all had had a taste of the Children’s Ministry. Oh, is it not heartwarming, too, that most ministerial candidates are young people who have gone through the mill of the Children’s Ministry?

God chose Abraham as his confidant, and He will not hide anything from him because He says concerning him in Genesis 18:18 that “… Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him” just as The Church of Pentecost is today.

The strategy he knew Abraham would employ, as recorded in Genesis 18:19, was “… he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice, so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”

God’s choice of Abraham bore great fruit when he went out to deliver Lot and his family and others with men trained from his household, just as the church is raising great men and women born and breed from her fold to champion the “possessing the nations” agenda. Genesis 14:14-16 states that:

14 When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, 318 of them, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15 And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them and pursued them to Hobah, north of Damascus. 16 Then he brought back all the possessions and also brought back his kinsman Lot with his possessions, and the women and the people.”

In the church today, where getting the adult members to embark on evangelism and other activities is becoming increasingly complex, our surest bet in getting the engine of growth running is paying more attention to the Children’s Ministry. Their young hearts are ready fertile grounds that can hold and nurture the seeds of the future of the church. Again, their hearts are malleable; for that matter, any change we hope to effect in the nations could start with them (Proverbs 22:6).

What should we do then? More investments should be made in human resource and capacity building, financial, infrastructural and material into the ministry. Again, appointing people with the heart of children at all levels to man CM activities and programs should be taken seriously. Furthermore, more accountability should be sought from leadership at all levels concerning how issues concerning children are handled. Supervisors at all levels must demand the same accountability from leadership in winning and retaining children, Holy Spirit Baptism, children’s attendance to Sunday School, and teens baptised and transferred to the youth ministry, among others. This should be done with the same alacrity as the adult membership. Finally, mentorship opportunities should be given to the children. With the introduction of the Jethro Initiative, more is being done in this direction. Still, can leadership at all levels intentionally visit the children and share their life experiences? Can we intentionally identify and bring together the alumni of the Ministry in all fields to inspire these little ones?

Can we start Children-Only Assemblies, where it is becoming difficult to get the adults? Nurture them well, and soon our membership will be skyrocketing. Can we encourage our children’s workers to give their best in training the children? Can we supply the needed resources to make their training smooth? Can we give the same attention, if not more, to the children just as we give to the adult? indeed, the future of the church will be secured, and we will continue to possess the nations from generation to generation. I believe these will help leave indelible marks in the hearts of our children as they seek to find their feet in our ever-changing world in all fields of endeavour.

In conclusion, for The Church of Pentecost to continue to exist and expand its frontiers in the Possessing the Nations Agenda, the Children’s Ministry must be seen as one of the surest conduits. Their young hearts are ready for the fire of the Holy Ghost. They must be built now rather than wait and embark on the arduous task of repairing them in their old age. After all, Frederick Douglas says, “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men”. Such post-destruction recovery ventures could only be termed AMBULANCE MINISTRY.

May the Lord continue to bless his church! May he raise men and women through the Children’s Ministry, who will take the nations by storm!

“Pay Special Attention to the Children’s Ministry” – Pastor Oko Barnor To Church Leaders

Pastor James Oko Barnor, the Uganda National Head of The Church of Pentecost, has advised church leaders to prioritise the children’s ministry in order to secure the future of the church.

He emphasised that the children’s ministry is a crucial aspect of building a long-lasting church, and therefore, should not be taken lightly.

Pastor Barnor shared this during a visit to Assin Foso to promote the work of missions. The visit coincided with the National Executive Committee of the Children’s Ministry’s visit to the area.

In a passionate appeal to Christians, Pastor Barnor stated that one of the early Church’s downfalls, which led to its collapse in Europe, was the lack of attention to evangelistic activities and the children and youth membership of the church.

“The children are the future of the church. If the church is to survive the test of time, then more attention should be given to the activities of the children in all spheres of their training,” he stressed.

Pastor Barnor used the opportunity to share some of the wonderful things God is doing through their mission work.

He also shared some of the challenges they face and expressed the need for support in prayers, emotions, and finances.

Present at the event were Apostle Frederick Kweku Andoh (Assin Foso Area Head), Mrs. Francisca Oko Barnor (Wife of Uganda National Head), the area pastorate ministers and their wives, as well as officers and children’s workers.

Children’s Ministry Organises “Back To Your Village” Food Bazaar

The Children’s Ministry of the Darkuman English Assembly in Kaneshie, an area of The Church of Pentecost, organised a food bazaar called “Back to Your Village” Food Bazaar to encourage children to embrace local dishes.

The event, which featured various local cuisines, drinks, snacks, and food produce, took place on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the forecourt of Darkuman English Assembly.

During the opening address, the District Women’s Ministry Secretary, Deaconess Sarfoah Ameyaw Ofori-Yeboah, called on parents to encourage the daily consumption of locally-made dishes at home and school for children.

She also urged children to continue to patronise made-in-Ghana products, which she believed would increase productivity, revenue, and put food on the table of Ghanaian farmers.

Elder Samuel Oware-Darko, the Local Secretary, echoed the calls of Deaconess Ofori-Yeboah, emphasizing that every food available carried lots of protein and other necessary nutrients that aid in growth and nourishment by eating locally-made dishes, children are also supporting local farmers.

The Local Children’s Ministry Leader, Deaconess Sheila A Williams, passionately appealed to parents and guardians to stop patronising fast food, pizza, and other saturated food or food from roadside vendors for their children.

Instead, she urged them to schedule a weekly plan and cook healthy local food to nourish their wards and aid their growth and development.

The event coincided with the Jethro Initiative (J I) meeting for the month of March, which was dubbed “Patriotism Day.”

Jethro Initiative is an extracurricular program of the Children’s Ministry aimed at strengthening the activities of the Sunday School, building the foundation of the children in Christ and His Word, and entrenching the need to walk in faith.

Parents Advised To Instill Patriotism In Children

The Buduburam Top District Children’s Ministry of The Church of Pentecost celebrated Ghana’s Heritage month in grand style.

The special event, which was held on Sunday, March 26, 2023, aimed to commemorate Ghana’s independence from colonial rule and instill patriotism in children to defend and uphold the cause of the nation.

As part of the celebration, the children dressed up in colourful Ghanaian kente clothes, scarves, and traditional attire and sang patriotic songs to mark Ghana’s freedom.

During the event, Deaconess Esther Korsah, the District Children’s Ministry Leader, appealed to parents and Ghanaians to instill godly values, principles, and a sense of patriotism in their children.

Drawing a comparison between Ghana’s independence and Christianity, she emphasised that just as the forefathers of the nation struggled and shed blood to obtain Ghana’s independence, Jesus suffered and shed His blood to save humanity from the bondage of sin.

“This is good news for humanity,” she added and further emphasised that true freedom can only be obtained in Jesus Christ (John 8:36).

The event was preceded by clean-up campaigns and placard evangelism within the Buduburam township the previous day.

270 Children Receive Holy Spirit Baptism During Camp Meeting

Two hundred and seventy children in the Tamale Area of The Church of Pentecost experienced Holy Spirit baptism during a non-residential camp meeting organised by the Area’s Children’s Ministry for children in the area.

The event, which took place on Saturday, April 1, 2023, was organised at both zonal and district levels including the Tamale Zone, which was chaired by the Tamale Area Head and Executive Council Member of the Church, Apostle Sylvester Arhin.

The main aim of the camp meeting, according to the Area Children’s Ministry Leader, Overseer Andrews Owusu, was to reposition the children in the power of the Holy Ghost for maximum impact.

During his sermon on Matthew 8:1-4, Apostle Arhin said that Jesus is able to make every child whole and to empower them to become successful farmers, artisans, lawyers, medical doctors, teachers, politicians, and ministers of God, in future.

He further emphasised the importance of following Jesus and making Him the centre of their lives. He reassured the children that, despite their young age, God can use them to bring glory to His name.

In his exhortation, Overseer Andrews Owusu also convinced the children of the need to receive the Holy Ghost baptism and all other spiritual gifts.

Reading from Daniel 2:1-19 and 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, he ignited the children’s desire for the power of the Holy Spirit and led them in a time of intensive prayer.

The event recorded a remarkable attendance of close to 1000 participants, including the Area pastorate, their wives, and children’s workers.

Some parents, who participated in the event with their wards, expressed gratitude to the Church leadership for organsing such an impactful programme.

Additionally, he said, the children were given lessons on Citizenship Education. The topics covered included: “Respect for People in Authority and Leadership” and “The Role of the Church in Producing Good Citizens.”

Some of the children explained the significance of the clothes they were wearing, which are typically used by chiefs and royals.

Ghana Month is celebrated every March to recognise the rich cultural heritage of Ghana and the independence struggle by our forebears. The period is also used to teach the younger generation the morals and values upheld in Ghanaian society.
