Apostle Nyamekye Fellowships With Nton-Aboma Community

Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, on Saturday, March 12, 2022, fellowshipped with the Nton-Aboma community, in the Nton-Aboma District of the church, Afram Plains Area, resulting in five souls being won to the glory of God after making an altar call.

In a durbar organised by the church, the chiefs and leaders of the community welcomed the Chairman of the church, joined by Apostle Victor Asamoah, Area Head of Afram Plains, The Church of Pentecost, with songs in a spectacular manner exhibiting their joy.

Among the entourage of chiefs present were Nana Akyeamfour Akuamoah Boateng II, Akroso Kontihene, Comfort Akua Agyemkumwaa, wife of Akroso Kontihene, Emmanuel Kofi Frimpong, Akroso Abusuapanin, Abusuapanin Kwasi Badu, Amankrado Abusuapanin of Agyaade, Dr. Boateng Dickson, Abusuapanin of Akyease Yamoroso and Okyeame Kwasi Nkyem, Supom Linguist.

Speaking to the members of the community, the Chairman said that The Church of Pentecost, is one of the blessed churches in the world with about 3.3 million members nationwide, according to the 2021 Population census.

“Our focus is on the righteousness of the country not just about the church; one of the problems of the country is the righteousness of the society,” he said.

He noted that the results of sin in every country is a disgrace, therefore, it was his prayer to have a righteous society.

He also explained that per the vision 2023 of the church, there had been the inauguration of the Chieftaincy ministry to collaborate with chiefs of communities to help support activities of the church.

He then acknowledged the peaceful living nature of the community and chiefs towards ministers sent to shepherd the church there.

He further pledged to drill two (2) boreholes for the community, since they had difficulties with water, especially in the dry season.

Nton-Aboma, according to Nana Akyeamfour Akuamoah Boateng II, Kontihene of Akroso, is a resettlement island of four (4) towns who originally lived by the Volta Lake in 1964, but had to be relocated there because of the Akosombo Dam construction.

The four founding towns of the island are, Akroso, Agyaade, Yamoroso, and Supom, who all have their leaders.

He said that the name of the town was gotten from a special plant called the “nton”, which was found by the river (aboma in their dialect), hence, the name ‘Nton-Aboma’, meaning the plant by the river because they were not all from one town, in a brief history of the land.

He thanked the Chairman of the church for the kind gesture shown to the community since it was one of their petitions to the church when they heard about his visit to the community.

As Oliver Twist would ask for more, the Kontihene of Akroso used the occasion to call on the Chairman for the church to consider venturing into large scale farming in the community. This, he, said would help create employment for the youth who are unemployed, and he was ready to donate lands for the project.

He then acknowledged the rest stop built by the church at the river banks of the town while waiting for the pontoon boats to transport people to the other end of the river.

As part of the ‘possessing the nations’ agenda of the church, Pentecost University (PU) deployed 25 student volunteers to the Afram Plains Area to help teach students in the remote towns within the Kwahu Afram Plains North and South Districts for a two weeks period. Four of them were deployed to the Nton-Aboma community.

Elder Mark Agyei Ntori, speaking on behalf of the student volunteers, iterated that the accepted call of service was to encourage teachers who refused to come to the town to have a change of mind in the future. He then used the opportunity to entreat the youth to patronize the university.

The Nton-Aboma Assembly member, Hon. Dominic Oppong Hayford made an appeal to the Chairman to institute a policy in Pentecost University to allow the deployment of students to the community after every semester since, it has been very impactful and worthy.

Present were Mrs. Mary Nyamekye, wife of the Chairman, Mrs. Rebecca Asamoah, wife of Afram Plains Area Head, Pastor Joseph Ndanyinanseh, Afram Plains Area Secretary and Donkorkrom District Minister, Pastor Emmanuel K. Tetteh, Nton-Aboma District Minister, Pastor Stephen Larbi, Adeemmra District Minister, Pastor Raymond Arhin, Abotanso District Minister, and Pastor Alphones Adim, Atokora District Minister of the church.
