A decade-long wait for a child has ended in joy for Elder Jonathan Ofori Asante and his wife, Deaconess Mary Ofori, who have welcomed their first child after years of prayer, medical consultations and unwavering faith.
The couple, who serve as leaders of the English Assembly of The Church of Pentecost in the Prampram District of the Tema Area, welcomed a healthy baby boy, Jonathan Nyamekye Ofori, on April 25, 2026.
The child was officially named on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the A.T. Nartey Memorial Temple in Prampram.
Elder Jonathan and Deaconess Mary married on November 19, 2016, and began looking forward to starting a family. However, their expectation of parenthood was prolonged for years as they were unable to conceive.
In their quest for a solution, the couple sought medical assistance from several hospitals and specialists. They underwent various medical treatments and took prescribed medications. While some medical practitioners indicated that there were no apparent medical challenges, other medical opinions suggested otherwise, leading the couple to explore additional treatment options, including herbal remedies.
Despite these efforts, there was neither a pregnancy nor any indication that their long-awaited breakthrough was imminent. Rather than allowing the prolonged wait to weaken their faith, the couple chose to intensify their commitment to God and His work.
They redirected resources they had been spending on treatments towards supporting the work of God and continued to pray and trust in His promises.
The church community also joined them in prayer, with the congregation consistently interceding for the couple and other families believing God for the fruit of the womb.
The breakthrough finally came in August 2025 when Deaconess Mary began experiencing unusual fatigue, weakness and general discomfort. The couple purchased two pregnancy test kits, with the first producing a positive result.
Uncertain about the result, Elder Jonathan requested a second test. It also returned positive.
A subsequent hospital examination confirmed that Deaconess Mary was pregnant.
The pregnancy progressed well, culminating in the birth of their son on April 25, 2026.
For the couple, the arrival of Nyamekye marks the end of a 10-year journey characterised by expectation, disappointment, prayer and hope.
Reflecting on their experience, the couple said their testimony has strengthened their conviction that God remains faithful even when answers to prayers do not come within the expected timeframe.
They are also encouraging couples and families going through similar seasons of waiting to remain steadfast in prayer and not give up hope.
Their testimony has become a source of encouragement to members of their church community and others who continue to trust God for their own breakthroughs.
The couple have expressed gratitude to God for the safe arrival of their son and have given Him all the glory for what they regard as an answer to a decade-long prayer.
