The Brong Ahafo Sector Traveling Secretary (TS) of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor Godwin Ako Addo, has called on the youth to remain rooted and grounded in the Lord Jesus Christ.
“When we are deeply rooted in Christ, we become standing trees who raise our branches in continual worship. We suck into the living water of Jesus Christ and are renewed with His life-giving nutrients, embraced by His creation and stand tall in adoration and appreciation,” he said.
Addressing PENSA (Pentecost Students & Associates) members at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani on Sunday, September 23, 2018, during their handing over ceremony, Pastor Ako Addo who is the Secretary of the National Executive Committee of the Youth Ministry of The Church of Pentecost, challenged the youth to totally immerse themselves in the sound doctrine of Christ which is able to enhance their spiritual growth.
Speaking on the topic, “Being deeply rooted and built up in Christ” with Bible references from Psalms 1:1-3, John 7:38, Psalms 92:12 and Matthew 7:27, he explained that roots are essential for the plant to have life, likewise a connection with Christ is a necessity if Christians are to have a full spiritual life.
“Just as plants exhibit signs of life depending on the health of their roots, Christians can exhibit Christ-like qualities if we draw our nourishment from Christ and His teachings,” he said.
According to him, the use of plants and roots in the Bible is symbolic of the believer’s connection to Christ; the necessity of it, the advantages of being rooted in Christ.
He indicated that Christians who are firmly established in the Lord are capable of withstanding storms without permanent deformation, saying, “They are like the wise man that built his house on the rock; they are not shaken by the storms of life.”
“Christians whose roots are implanted in the Lord receive nourishment from Him; all their leaves become fresh daily because they are always beside the stream of living water. So when adversity strikes, they do not quiver nor quell; they always stand tall in all facets of their lives,” he said.
Pastor Godwin Ako Addo entreated the students to engage themselves in extensive Bible studies and prayer. He also advised them to eschew evil and cleave to that which is good.
Present at the event were Mrs. Esther Molly Ako Addo (wife of the TS) and some sector executive members and alumni, among others.
