In an effort to revitalise the moral fabric of Ghana, the committee responsible for developing the country’s Moral Vision Strategic Plan has submitted its first draft to Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost.
This presentation took place during a brief meeting held in the conference room of The Church of Pentecost General Headquarters on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
The committee was inaugurated on October 12, 2023, by the Executive Council and includes prominent figures such as Prof. Emeritus Paul Buatsi (Co-chairman), Apostle Vincent Anane Denteh (Co-Chairman), Lawyer Obeiku, and Rev. Dr. Ansah (Secretary).
This presentation marks a significant milestone in the initiative, which seeks to integrate moral values into the nation’s development agenda. The plan emphasises the critical role of moral character in national development, asserting that any progress lacking the desired moral standards of the Ghanaian people will ultimately fail. It highlights that human beings are the most vital element in the development of any nation.
Prof. Paul Buatsi, co-chair of the committee, underscored the necessity of establishing a Ghana Moral Vision Strategic Secretariat to oversee the plan’s implementation. He noted that this secretariat would need a dedicated budget to ensure the church’s ownership of the moral vision policy.
Furthermore, he advocated for the formation of a Ghana Moral Vision Coordination Council to facilitate grassroots implementation, which would involve sectorial appointments and the creation of a training manual to guide the process.
Prof. Damoah Obi Berko, another committee member, pointed out that the implementation strategy will be multifaceted, encompassing material, financial, and administrative resources. The plan is structured to address all dimensions of national development, ensuring a comprehensive approach.
The committee aims for a national launch of the document and its implementation, engaging various stakeholders, including political leaders, religious organisations, and civil society groups.
Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua, Vice Chancellor of Pentecost University, announced that the university will transform the committee’s document into a compulsory Ethics and National Development course for all students starting in January 2025. He hopes this initiative will inspire other institutions in the future.
Apostle Nyamekye pledged to ensure that the Executive Committee works diligently on the policy so that it does not remain just a written document.
