Obuasi Area PEMEM Holds Inter-District Sports Festival

The Adansi-Asokwa District in the Obuasi Area emerged overall winners of the ‘Inter-District Sports Festival’ organised by the area’s Men’s Ministry (PEMEM). The Estate and Kunka districts followed in second and third place, respectively.

The keenly-contested soccer competition took place at the Ofori Stadium on Friday, December 3, 2021.

All three district finalists were presented with trophies and medals for their respective feats.

Individual awards were also presented to Peter Nkansah of Estate District; voted best player of the tournament, Thomas Aboagye of Kunka District; adjudged the best goalkeeper, and Emmanuel Arthur of Estate District; the top goal scorer of the competition with four goals.

Present at the event were the Obuasi Area Head, Apostle William Boakye Agyarko, who performed the ceremonial kick for the commencement of the football competition, as well as the Area PEMEM Leader, Pastor Benjamin Sarpong Mensah.

Pastor Samuel Annor Addo (Area Youth Ministry Leader) and Deacon Daniel Asare (Area PEMEM Secretary) served as match officials. 

As part of the event, officials of Archivers Medical Laboratory organised free health screening for members and other spectators of the event. Patrons of the exercise were screened for Hepatitis B, Hypertension, Diabetes, vision problems, and eye disorders.

Obuasi-Kunka PEMEM Organises Free Health Screening For Mamiriwa Residents

The Pentecost Men’s Ministry (PEMEM) of the Obuasi-Kunka District partnered with the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital to offer free health screening for residents of the Mamiriwa community, last Saturday.

Speaking to PENTECOST NEWS, the District PEMEM Leader, Elder Kennedy Ntoso, said the exercise was strategically organised to provide residents, especially those who could not afford medical check-ups due to financial constraints, access to medical care. The exercise was also an opportunity to share with the patrons the gospel message of Jesus Christ. 

The hundreds of residents who took part in the exercise were screened for hypertension (Blood Pressure), diabetes and breast cancer. The health officials also educated them on healthy lifestyles and preventive healthcare.

To the glory of God, 50 of the patrons surrendered their lives to Christ.

Couple Blessed With A Child After 14 Years Of Marriage

Mr. Micheal Tseyiboe and his wife, Rita Abena Yeboah, both of the Salem Assembly in the Ajumako Besease District of The Church of Pentecost, have been blessed with a child after 14 years of marriage. 

The couple tied the knot in 2007 and were optimistic about being blessed with the fruit of the womb. However, after trying for several years, the child was not forthcoming, although fertility doctors had declared them fit to give birth. After waiting for over a decade, the Lord surprised them this year with a bouncing baby girl. 

Exhorting congregants at the naming and dedication service for the newborn, the District Minister, Pastor Isaac Tenkorang, quoted Ecclesiastes 3:11 to stress the fact that, in God’s own time, He makes all things beautiful. 

He urged Christians to depend on God in all things and wait on His appointed time to receive the unimaginable promises that He has in store for them. 

Pastor Tenkorang also advised the elated couple to do well to train the child with principles, values and lifestyles of the Kingdom of God so that the child will grow up to become a respectable person in the Church and the society as a whole.

Kintampo Newtown Church Building Named After Deaconess Grace Boahen

The ultra-modern church building of the Newtown District Central Assembly in the Kintampo Area of The Church of Pentecost, which was dedicated on November 28, 2021, has been named after the late Deaconess Grace Boahen.

The gesture was initiated by the Area leadership, in consultation with the Executive Council of the Church, to honour the departed deaconess whose pioneering efforts led to the establishment of the Church in Kintampo in 1956. 

“Her singular effort, selfless dedication and sacrifice have caused the seed of the gospel she sowed back then to grow into an Area with many districts today. With the approval of the Executive Council, the building has been named the ‘Grace Boahen Memorial Temple,’” the Area Head, Apostle Gideon Obeng-Darko Debrah, revealed at the dedication ceremony for the building.

The colourful event was chaired by Apostle Isaac Nii Kotei Djani, an Executive Council member and the Coordinator for the Bono-East-Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council.

In a sermon titled “You are a Precious Stone” with 1 Peter 2:4-5 and Acts 28:20 as Bible references, Apostle Kotei Djani drummed home the need for every Christian to have a clear understanding that they are precious stones in God’s sight because Christ has purchased them with His precious blood.

As precious stones, he averred, believers are to undertake every task wholeheartedly with the mindset of working for God and not for human masters or superiors. This is because everything that is done for the Lord never goes unrecognised, he added.

“You can be a pillar without being seen. Be satisfied that even if men do not see it, God sees in secret and will reward you bountifully,” he said.

He further assured believers that whatever service they render to the Lord, they would certainly receive a reward in this life and the next. 

Apostle Kotei Djani also noted that, as the Lord’s precious stones, God has imbibed Christians with His life. He, therefore, encouraged them to give this life to others by propagating the gospel message of Christ to unbelievers.

“Allow yourselves to be precious stones to be used in the hands of the master,” he charged.

Giving a brief account of the church building project, Pastor Akwasi Amponsah said that the decision to commence the project was taken in 2010 during the tenure of Pastor Reuben Adrakpanya (now retired). Consequently, the sod was cut by the then Techiman Area Head, Apostle S. R. Odoom (now retired). 

The project received a boost in 2016 following the creation of the Kintampo Area. As a result, the foundation stone was laid on July 1, 2016, by Apostle Robert C. Ackon (now retired) with assistance from the then District Minister, Pastor Kpakpofio Adotey.

The project continued steadily to its completion after Apostle Obeng-Darko Debrah and Pastor Akwasi Amponsah took over as Kintampo Area Head and Kintampo Newtown District Minister, respectively.

In attendance also were the Kintampo Area pastorate, Pastor Kpakpofio Adotey (now Tetegu District Minister), Hon. Isaac Baffoe Ameyaw (Kintampo North Municipal Chief Executive), officers and members of the Newtown District as well as some relatives of the late Deaconess Grace Boahen, namely, Mr. Akwasi Marfo, Elder Daniel Yaw Marfo (Oyarifa District) and Deaconess Helena Agyeiwaa Marfo (Berekum Area)

Pastor Anambe Receives Big Surprise On Retirement Day

Pastor Augustine Wadjah  Anambe, who has retired from active service on health grounds after serving for 12 years in the full-time ministry of The Church of Pentecost, could not hide his tears when a benevolent member surprised him with a special retirement package.

According to the Nkawkaw Area Head, Prophet Foster Aniakwaa, who broke the news at the retirement service held in the minister’s honour last Sunday, a reputable businessman in the Church has pledged to complete Pastor Anambe’s ongoing building project, buy him a new car, and include him in his employees’ payroll for the entire period of his retirement.

Overwhelmed with emotions at the news, Pastor Anambe and his wife, Gladys, began to sob in disbelief, thus, moving most of the congregants to tears.

As if by divine orchestration, the gesture affirmed the sermon that was later delivered at the service by the Nkawkaw Area Head, which he titled: “When Your Ministerial Manna Ceases, What Will You Do?” 

Using Joshua 5:12 and John 6:48-51 as his main scripture references, Prophet Aniakwaa said that although ministerial service comes with its challenges, there are also some privileges that ministers enjoy such as cash and gift donations from members, regular visitations, etc. 

He said that after active service, some of these privileges, which he referred to as “Ministerial Mannas” cease, and, therefore, ministers on retirement ought to learn to adapt to this new phase of life. 

He, however, assured the retired minister and all gathered that when such ministerial mannas end, God still has a way of providing for those who have faithfully served Him.

The well-attended event, which was held at the Ebenezer Temple in the Effiduase Area, was chaired by Apostle Samuel O. Asante (Executive Council Member and Koforidua Area Head) with assistance from the Area Head, Apostle Daniel Yeboah Nsaful and other Area Heads of the Church in the Eastern Region.

Among the over thousand congregants present at the event were ministers of the Church and their wives, including Pastor Anambe’s ministerial mates, members of the districts where he pastored, as well as some relatives and friends.

Pastor Augustine Wadjah Anambe, formerly a Prisons Officer, was called into the full-time ministry of the Church at Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region in 2009. He had his ministerial training at Pentecost University, Sowutuom. On completion, he was posted to Amankwakrom in the Afram Plains Area as Probationary Overseer in 2010, confirmed an Overseer in 2011, and called to the Pastorate in 2014.

He served as the Area Assistant Evangelism Ministry Leader from 2010 to 2012 at Afram Plains. He later served as the substantive leader from 2012 to 2015.

In ministry, Pastor Anambe served at Amankwakrom from 2010 to 2015 and Begoro Odumase from 2015 to 2016, then went on a sick leave. He resumed a year later and was stationed at Brekumanso in the Asamankese Area. However, after two months at post, his health deteriorated, and he was granted another sick leave until he retired from the ministry.

2022 PENSA Ghana Conference Launched

The University of Ghana (UG) branch of the Pentecost Students and Associates (PENSA) organised a colourful ceremony last Sunday at the Mensah Sarbah Hall to officially launch the 2022 edition of the PENSA Ghana Conference (PGC’22).

The launch ceremony for the much-anticipated annual youth-empowerment event was concurrently held by the various PENSA branches (physically and remotely) nationwide.

In his opening address, the PGC’22 Coordinator, Elder Isaac Brobbey Boadu, commended the leadership of The Church of Pentecost for creating a space on the Church’s annual calendar to mobilise and equip the youth of the Church for great exploits.

He said that the conference, which would run on the theme: “Equipping the Church as an Army to Possess the Nations,” would take place from January 3 to 6 next year, with Apostle Yaw Adjei-Kwarteng (Bompata Area Head and Executive Council Member) as the main speaker.

Other speakers for the event include Apostle Eric Nyamekye (Chairman of the Church), Apostle Alex Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi (General Secretary), Apostle Samuel Osei Asante (Youth Ministry Patron), Apostle Dr. Dela Quampah (Ho Area Head and Executive Council Member), Apostle Prof. Agyapong Koduah (Vice-Chancellor of Pentecost University), Pastor Ebenezer Hagan (Youth Ministry Director), Overseer Prof. Joseph Osafo (Head of National Counselling Team), and Mama Eunice Johnson (Musician). 

Elder Boadu further revealed that the conference would be held concurrently at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, and the KNUST to ensure a more effective organisation and control of the teeming participants considering the COVID-19 situation.

“This innovation would also help alleviate certain inconveniences such as travel expenses,” he added.

Elder Boadu encouraged young members of the Church and non-members to take advantage of this life-transforming opportunity by patronising the event.

Pastor Kwadwo Obeng, the Resident Campus Minister for UG-PENSA, who was also present at the event, led the congregants to pray into the PGC’22.

Chairman Interacts With Officers In Kploukanme, Zogbo Regions

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, as part of his working visit to the church in Benin, has met with officers of the church in the Kploukanme and Zogbo Areas in Benin. The meeting was also attended by ministers and their wives in the two regions.

Addressing them, Apostle Nyamekye quoted from 1 Samuel 12:8 and explained that God always listens to the cry of His people when they ask for a leader. He, however, said that it is difficult to determine God’s criteria in selecting a leader since He chooses anyone He wills.

“God puts His best gifts in the church, and we are the church of God. Therefore, no one is useless in the house of God,” he said.

He added: “God selects a leader who has a particular gift He needs at a point in time.”

He mentioned that the main purpose of his visit was to share the church’s vision with them because as officers, they are one of the main pillars of the church.

He stressed that The Church of Pentecost would not have reached almost every corner of Benin and other nations, numbering over 109 without the hard work of unpaid leaders of the church.

The Chairman then took the officers through the highlights of the five-year strategic vision of the church, dubbed ‘Vision 2023’ with the overarching theme, “Possessing the Nations.”

“To fulfill this vision, the Church’s leadership must embrace the process of bringing righteousness and light to the world’s systems (i.e. the family, government and politics, chieftaincy and culture, business and economy, education and science, sports, media and the world of entertainment) by equipping the church with kingdom values and principles,” he stated.

Reading Deuteronomy 7:1-2; 8:1; 4:5-7; Ephesians 3:10, Apostle Nyamekye brought to light that Israel was strategically and purposefully chosen by God to reveal His manifold wisdom and character to the world, thereby causing the other nations to return to God. In a similar context, he said, the Church, which is the spiritual Israel, has been given the mandate of fulfilling the intent of God in these times.

“Everywhere you are, you must be the hope of glory,” he stressed.

He explained that the overall goal of Vision 2023 is to raise a church where members go to possess nations by transforming every worldview, thought, and behaviour with values, principles, and lifestyles of the kingdom of God, thereby turning many to Christ.

The Chairman further explained that the nature of the Vision requires three strategic approaches to its efficient exhaustion. For each strategic approach, key areas of development are being addressed: Equipping members with the required resources. This approach seeks to empower and build up the local church through intentional discipleship.

The second approach is strengthening and realigning existing structures in the church to propel the transformation agenda. The key areas considered in this approach are the re-organization of the ministries, the introduction of Gospel Sunday, and effective Bible Study sessions in services. He said that the Home and Urban Missions (HUM) and the Ministry to Persons with Disabilities (MPWDs) have helped establish a lot of local assemblies in seemingly ‘forbidden’ places, saying, “If we can’t tell them to rise up and walk, we can lead them to Jesus and when they see Him, they will be like Him.”

He added: “The Schools Outreach Ministry is to basic schools, the Chieftaincy Ministry and Chaplaincy, among many others, are in full force and changing lives in the church in Ghana and must be implemented here too.”

The third approach, he mentioned, is transforming society. The key areas addressed in this approach include the deployment of members as agents of transformation and community transformation.

According to the Chairman, as part of the projects being undertaken under the third approach, the Church has purposed to build standard prisons, of which one has been commissioned at Ejura in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It will also embark on the Environmental Care Campaign, construct CHPs compounds, which have been adopted by the Government of Ghana as full-fledged clinics, tree-planting exercises and many more.

Concluding his message, Apostle Eric Nyamekye stated: “We are not to be only hearers of the good news but we must also join in possessing the nations for Christ. We must ask God to show us our part in this vision so that we can contribute our quota and become relevant in this generation.”

After Chairman’s presentation, the National Coordinator for the Home and Urban Missions (HUM), Apostle Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo, addressed the gathering on the progress being made on the field.

HUM Trains Leaders

The Home and Urban Mission (HUM) of The Church of Pentecost has organised a leadership training programme at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Kumasi for HUM leaders at the various levels of the Church.

According to the National Leadership of HUM, the event was organised to build the capacity of the leaders by throwing more light the mandate of HUM and also providing them with the requisite knowledge about the various HUM target groups and how to engage them.

Topics treated at the programme by some acclaimed researchers and professionals include “Introduction to Leadership and Lean,” “Introduction to Discipleship,” “Home and Urban Mission,” “Effective Way to Evangelise Muslims,” “Missions and Missiology,” “The Unreached People Groups – Global and Ghanaian Context,” “Mental Health and Rehabilitation,” among others.

The participants were also given a talk on the 2022 theme of The Church of Pentecost: “Equipping the Church as an Army to Possess the Nations.”

The event brought together leaders from all parts of the country. Some recovered drug addicts and Islam converts were also invited to share their salvation stories with participants.

At the end of the training, some participants in an interview with PENTECOST NEWS said they had received deep insight into the ministry of HUM. They also pledged to put into practice all that they had been taught at the programme.

Your Character Defines Your Ministry – Chairman Tells Clergy

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has advised Christian clerics to portray good character in order to have a positive impact on their ministry.

Apostle Nyamekye said this on Thursday when he met with ministers and wives of The Church of Pentecost in the Cotonou Region at the Zogbo auditorium as part of his working visit to Benin.

Speaking on the topic: “The Minister and his Ministry,” the Chairman said that God has entrusted His mysteries (His flock and sacred resources) to the clergy, adding that, they must faithfully guard them through prayer and fasting and ensure that they serve His intended purpose on earth.

Quoting 1 Corinthians 3:7, Apostle Nyamekye explained that the character of a minister is very critical in their ability to discharge their God-given mandate effectively.

He said that ministry is a ‘life-giving vocation’ because it is essentially about the outflow of divine life through mortal vessels. The effect of the flow of divine life, he said, is what causes a revival in the Church and the nations. 

He, therefore, noted that for revival to take place, God requires a special kind of people, particularly ministers, to avail themselves as vessels through whom the life of God would flow into the Church and the nations.

“Christ is looking for men who understand their calling and are willing to go all out and affect (impact) the nations,” he said.

Apostle Nyamekye also stated that ministers must lead godly lifestyles so that their followers (God’s children) could feed off them, stressing that, “the character of the minister should be able to influence a generation to focus on God.” 

He, therefore, urged ministers to regard church members as ‘special people’ bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ and called to a life of righteousness and holiness.

The Chairman said that due to the mandate the Lord has given to ministers, He is always ready to pour out His Spirit on them, pointing out that, it is incumbent on the ministers to make themselves available and always position themselves to receive from God to cause the desired effect in the nations.

He further advised ministers to be faithful and eschew dishonest gains, work on their hearts and selflessly serve the members as God expects. He also advised them to avoid selfish ambitions and not to lord over the members.

He charged the ministers to develop godly virtues and traits such as humility, gentleness, kindness, among others so that they would serve as worthy examples for others.

Apostle Nyamekye encouraged the ministers to be humble and live in harmony with one another.

“When you pursue these acts of humility in your administration, the Lord will lift you, and it would shield you from evil,” he said.

The Chairman was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Mary Nyamekye, as well as Apostle Peter Dzemekey (Aflao Area Head), Apostle Gabriel Kpokame (Guinea Conakry National Head), and Apostle Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo (Home & Urban Missions Coordinator).

Do Not Take Prayer For Granted – Apostle Nana Yaw Agyei Tells Christians

Apostle Samuel Nana Yaw Agyei, the Kade Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, has called on Christians not to take prayer for granted but regard it as a great opportunity to lay themselves bare before the Lord.

“Do not take prayer for granted, engage the Lord in prayer anytime you get the chance, because a man’s description of his fellow man is not God’s prescription of who one is,” the Kade Area Head said when he preached at the just-ended annual prayer festival, dubbed the “Back-to-Prayer” Convention, organised by the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Sakumono (PIWC-Sakumono). 

Speaking on the topic “The Mountain-Top Experience” based on Luke 9:28-35, Apostle Agyei stressed the need for Christians to cherish and be dedicated to the things of the Lord. 

He said that Jesus selected Peter, James, and John to accompany Him to the mountain top to pray because they were faithful, dedicated and loved the things of God.

According to Apostle Agyei, the mountain-top experience of Jesus is the level of prayer engagement with the Father that every believer must strive to have.

The Kade Area Head explained how believers could achieve this by making inferences from the names of the three disciples whom Jesus chose to accompany Him to the mountain top.

He noted that ‘Peter,’ which means a solid rock, implied that a Christian must be firm to have the mountain-top experience. He further noted that the name ‘James,’ meaning a committed believer, also implied that every Christian must be committed to the faith, whilst the name ‘John,’ which means beloved, implied that every believer should strive to become God’s beloved to have a deeper fellowship with Him in prayer.

Apostle Nana Yaw Agyei, therefore, urged Christians to continually pray since when the church prays, Satan and the kingdom of darkness become alarmed (threatened). 

He also advised them to hold firm to the teachings of the Lord Jesus, adding that “Even if you are going through any trial, remember the ‘fourth man’ in the burning furnace; the fourth man will always deliver you [just as He rescued Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego]. So, do not stop praying until something happens.”

The Back-to-Prayer Convention is an annual fasting and prayer programme of PIWC-Sakumono. This year’s edition was held from Monday, November 15, to Sunday, November 21, under the theme: “Not By Might, Not By Power But By The Spirit Of The Lord” (Zechariah 4:6).
