Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, has called on Christians to be united in purpose as God’s chosen people.
Speaking passionately, he revealed that Jesus Christ did not come merely to save individuals but to build His Church—a congregation designed and summoned by God for His purpose.
He made this statement on Sunday, December 1, 2024 during the climax of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) Sakumono’s weeklong prayer event dubbed “Back To Prayer Convention”.
“The Church is not a random gathering; it is a group called together by God for His divine purpose in the world,” Apostle Nyamekye stated.
He added that denominations are not meant to divide Christians but are strategic platforms to reach more people and bring them into the fold of God’s Kingdom.
Drawing from 1 Peter 2:9-10 and John 15:16, he described the Church as a “chosen generation” with the responsibility of bearing fruits that will last.
He urged believers to be deeply concerned about societal issues, likening their role to that of royalty tasked with managing the affairs of a state.
“God created all of us to be managers of the earth. The Church is not separate from society; we are called to improve it. That is why we are the salt of the earth,” he declared.
Apostle Nyamekye encouraged believers to share their testimonies, using their lives as evidence of God’s transformative power.
Apostle Nyamekye who also doubles as the president of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) described the Church’s calling as one of declaring and demonstrating the character of Christ through words, attitudes, and deeds.
To fulfill this purpose effectively, he said, Christians must know God intimately.
“God wants us to know His Word and His ways,” he stressed.
However, he lamented that many believers talk or sing about God but lack a deep knowledge of the Bible. He referenced Ezra 7:6 and 10 to highlight the importance of deliberate study of Scripture, stating that the Word of God illuminates paths, sets people apart from evil, and imparts wisdom and prosperity (Psalm 19:7-11).
Apostle Nyamekye also highlighted the significance of prayer, describing it as an essential means of communication with God.
“The importance of communication is not just for understanding but to build a relationship,” he said.
He encouraged Christians to cultivate a strong prayer life, as it reveals a person’s spiritual condition.
Apostle Nyamekye challenged believers to move beyond superficial spirituality by investing quality time in prayer and devotion.
“Short devotions are the bane of deep piety. They deplete spiritual vigor and arrest spiritual progress,” he warned.
Present at the service were Mrs. Mary Nyamekye (Wife of the Chairman); Apostle Seth Fianko-Larbi (Resident Minister, PIWC Sakumono); Pastor Frank Mensah Tandoh (Coordinator, Schools Outreach Ministry) and their wives.
