A retired Apostle of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Samuel Yaw Antwi, has urged ministers of The Church of Pentecost to embrace effective supervision as an essential tool for personal development, effective ministry and the growth of the Church.
Speaking on the topic, “Supervision,” during the orientation for newly called Heads, Apostles and Prophets of The Church of Pentecost on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Pentecost Pensions Guest House in Gbawe, Accra, Apostle Dr. Antwi explained that supervision plays a critical role in helping ministers effectively discharge their responsibilities and contribute to the achievement of the Church’s objectives.
He defined supervision as “the directing of the activities of other people towards the accomplishment of organisational goals,” describing it as a key function of leadership.
According to him, effective supervision should not be viewed merely as the monitoring of tasks and activities, but as a deliberate process of guiding, supporting and developing people to become more effective in their respective assignments.
Apostle Dr. Antwi encouraged ministers to remain receptive to supervision, noting that guidance and oversight from those placed over them are important for their growth and effectiveness in ministry.
He explained that ministers should see supervision as an opportunity to receive direction, improve their performance and develop their capacity to serve God and His Church more effectively.
Touching on the biblical foundation of supervision, he noted that the concept could be traced to the creation account in Genesis chapters 1–3, where God entrusted Adam and Eve with the responsibility of taking charge of His creation.
He further emphasised the importance of ensuring that ministers are properly equipped and assigned responsibilities according to their abilities and calling. He noted that effective delegation and staffing are important elements in helping people maximise their potential and contribute meaningfully to the work of the Church.
Apostle Dr. Antwi also stressed the need for continuous training and capacity development, encouraging ministers to remain committed to learning and personal improvement.
He noted that supervision should also involve personal and emotional support, as ministers, like every other person, may encounter challenges that require guidance, encouragement and constructive feedback.
The retired Apostle further highlighted the role of supervision in addressing workplace conflicts and maintaining healthy working relationships. He encouraged ministers to respond positively to correction and to contribute to an environment characterised by mutual respect, fairness and understanding.
He cautioned against generalising when addressing misconduct or challenges within a team, advising that matters should be dealt with directly and privately with the individual concerned.
“If one person commits an offence, call that particular person and deal with him,” he stressed.
Apostle Dr. Antwi also underscored the importance of loyalty, respect and love for the Church, noting that these qualities are essential for effective ministry.
He explained that supervision should go beyond the assessment of tasks and performance to addressing the attitudes, values and character of ministers.
“Supervision must get to the core of the people’s character,” he stated.
He therefore encouraged ministers to appreciate supervision as a vital component of their ministry journey, stressing that effective supervision can help develop their capacity, strengthen their character, improve their performance and ultimately contribute to the growth and spiritual advancement of The Church of Pentecost.
