The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has declared that the fear of death should no longer hold believers captive, emphasising that Jesus Christ has decisively conquered death and its power.

Delivering a sermon on the theme “Victory over Death” at the thanksgiving service for the family of the late Mrs Mercy Asante at the FD Walker Auditorium on Sunday, March 29, 2026, he explained that although death remains an inevitable part of human existence, its sting has been removed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Preaching from Hebrews 2:14–15, Apostle Obuobi noted that death entered the world as a consequence of sin, tracing its origin to the disobedience of humanity in the Garden of Eden. He explained that since then, death has affected all people—rich and poor, righteous and unrighteous—becoming what Scripture describes as the “last enemy to be destroyed.”

He further indicated that death has never been a friend to humanity, as it brings pain, sorrow, and anguish to individuals and families. According to him, the devil has exploited death as a tool to instill fear and enslave humanity, holding many in lifelong bondage.

However, Apostle Obuobi stressed that the coming of Jesus Christ marked a turning point in human history. He explained that although God cannot die, He took on human form so that through death, He could destroy the one who holds the power of death—the devil.

“By His death and resurrection, Jesus defeated the devil and his power over death,” he stated.

He added that despite efforts to prevent Jesus’ resurrection—including the sealing of the tomb and the presence of guards—Christ triumphed over death, demonstrating His ultimate victory.

Quoting 1 Thessalonians 4:14, the General Secretary reaffirmed the hope of believers, stating that just as Christ died and rose again, those who are in Him will also rise.

He explained that for the believer, death should no longer be feared but understood as a transition into eternal life, likening it to a vehicle that conveys the faithful into the presence of God.

“This is the hope of the believer—that death is like a nurse who leads us to the Doctor,” he said.

Apostle Obuobi concluded by urging all to place their faith in Jesus Christ, noting that the victory over death is only accessible to those who believe in Him and accept Him as Lord and Saviour.
