The United Nations General Assembly has in a historic move on March 25, 2026, adopted a Ghana-proposed resolution formally declaring the transatlantic slave trade the “gravest crime against humanity.”

The landmark resolution, led by Ghana and supported by a coalition of African and Caribbean nations, was passed with 123 votes in favour, 3 against, and 52 abstentions, reflecting broad international support while also highlighting ongoing divisions over how to address historical injustices.

The three countries that voted against the resolution were the United States, Israel, and Argentina.

The resolution acknowledges the centuries-long exploitation, forced displacement, and dehumanisation of millions of Africans, describing the transatlantic slave trade as one of the darkest chapters in human history. It further calls on member states to take concrete steps toward reparatory justice, including formal apologies, compensation, and the return of stolen cultural artefacts.

The move is being widely hailed as a significant step in the global push for historical accountability. Advocates argue that it shifts the conversation beyond acknowledgment to meaningful action aimed at addressing the enduring social and economic consequences of slavery.

Although the resolution is non-binding, its symbolic weight is expected to intensify global discourse around reparations and institutional responsibility. Policy Adviser for Political Affairs at the Office of the Vice President and Elder of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC)–Sakumono, Elder Dr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has donated musical instruments and sound equipment to the Akyem Adukrom Assembly of the Kibi District in the Suhum Area of The Church of Pentecost.

The generous donation, presented on Sunday, March 15, 2026, served as a heartfelt gesture of gratitude from the former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Elder Dr. Ofosu Ampofo, who began his Christian journey at this very assembly years ago, was joined by Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), state officials, family, and friends.

The items presented included five pieces of drum set, a 4-in-1 coiled cable, a pair of mid loudspeakers, a pair of bass loudspeakers, a Yamaha keyboard with stand, a console, two guitars, a two-channel Shure microphone, a guitar amplifier, a keyboard amplifier, a bass guitar amplifier, a rack, two EV Power Amplifiers (8300), a Deton enhancer, a Deton crossover, a power sequence unit, a controller, and a double equalizer.

Born in Kyebi, Elder Dr Ofosu Ampofo noted that the Adukrom Assembly holds a special place in his life, as it was there that he began his spiritual journey in the church. According to him, the donation was his way of expressing appreciation to God and supporting the growth of the assembly that played a foundational role in his faith.

He also used the occasion to appreciate God for His faithfulness in his life, particularly for his political journey and successes over the years, as well as for the blessing of another year added to his life.

The Suhum Area Head, Apostle Patrick Asiyaro, preached from Psalms 34, emphasizing thanksgiving as a vital practice for believers—both personal and communal. He urged the church to continually recognize God’s goodness in transforming lives and contributing to national development.

He further noted that the church must continually thank God for its role in the transformation of lives and its contribution to national development and nation-building.

Leaders and members of the Akyem Adukrom Assembly expressed their profound appreciation to Elder Dr Ofosu Ampofo for the gesture, describing the donation as timely and a significant boost to the church’s music and sound ministry. The Twifo Praso Area of The Church of Pentecost has strengthened its evangelism drive with the dedication of two tricycles to support gospel outreach in the Area. The vehicles were dedicated during a brief ceremony held on January 31, 2026, at the Asikafo Assembly premises.

The initiative forms part of the Area’s efforts to enhance evangelistic activities and extend the reach of the gospel to remote and hard-to-access communities within the Area. The tricycles are expected to assist the Evangelism Ministry and outreach teams in travelling to villages and communities that are difficult to access by conventional means, thereby facilitating effective gospel proclamation and community engagement.

The acquisition also aligns with the church’s 2026 theme, which focuses on unleashing the church to transform society with the Gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit. By strengthening logistical support for evangelism, the Area seeks to intensify efforts at reaching the unreached and advancing the church’s mandate of possessing the nations.

The dedication ceremony was attended by ministers and their wives serving in the Area, a session of officers, and members of the church who gathered to witness the event and pray for the effective use of the vehicles in advancing the work of God.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Twifo Praso Area Head, Apostle Lawrence Otu-Nyarko, expressed appreciation to the Evangelism Ministry and all who contributed to making the acquisition possible. He encouraged the evangelism team and members to make good use of the tricycles to support the church’s outreach efforts.

Apostle Otu-Nyarko noted that the tricycles symbolise the church’s commitment to taking the message of salvation through Jesus Christ to every corner of society. He emphasised that the gospel remains the central mandate of the church and urged members to remain dedicated to soul-winning and discipleship.

He also commended the leadership of the Area ministries for their commitment to the church’s vision and evangelism agenda, urging them to continue supporting initiatives that advance the mission of the church.

Additionally, he encouraged the team responsible for the vehicles to ensure proper maintenance so that they would serve the intended purpose effectively for many years. With the addition of the tricycles, the Area’s evangelism team is expected to cover wider territories and intensify outreach activities in surrounding communities.

The Twifo For Christ Gospel and Power Crusade brought a remarkable wave of spiritual renewal to Twifo Praso and its surrounding communities as thousands gathered at the A&D School Park for five days of intensive evangelism, prayer, and worship.

The event, which attracted more than 6,000 people from diverse backgrounds, became a powerful platform through which many encountered the saving grace and power of Jesus Christ.

Held from February 17–21, 2026, the crusade was organised by the Twifo Praso Area of The Church of Pentecost under the leadership of Apostle Lawrence Otu-Nyarko and his wife, Mrs. Doris Otu-Nyarko. Dubbed “Twifo for Christ Gospel and Power Crusade,” the outreach aligned with the church’s 2026 theme aimed at unleashing the entire church to transform society with the gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit.

The crusade ran with the theme, “Jesus Christ, Saviour of the World” (John 4:42), featuring morning and evening sessions marked by fervent prayer, vibrant praise and worship, and life-transforming messages.

The opening night was ministered by Apostle Dr. Amos Jimmy Markin, Executive Council Member of The Church of Pentecost, RCC Coordinator for the Central Region and Cape Coast Area Head. Preaching on the hope found in Christ, he explained that humanity, though lost in sin, has been given a remedy through Jesus Christ. Emphasising that salvation can only be found in the name of Jesus, he called on the crowd to embrace the gift of redemption.

On the second and third nights, Apostle Lawrence Otu-Nyarko expounded on the crusade theme, highlighting Christ as the only Saviour who restores the broken and grants abundant life.

He noted that although the enemy seeks to destroy destinies, the love of Christ brings restoration and hope to humanity. His messages stirred many hearts and led numerous people to surrender their lives to Christ.

Friday’s session featured Elder Dr. Nana Samuel Amoh Tobin, Chief Executive Officer of the Tobinco Group of Companies, who spoke on the enduring love of God.

He noted that salvation through Christ brings not only eternal life but also divine protection, mercy, and peace in daily living. His message drew many to the altar in response to the call of God’s relentless love.

On the final night, Elder Dr. Bismark Amoah of Bohye Prayer Centre delivered a message on the benefits of Christ as the Saviour of the world, emphasising that salvation in Jesus brings healing, deliverance, and restoration to all who believe.

By the close of the crusade, a total of 710 souls were won, comprising 456 adults and 254 children. Additionally, 241 converts received water baptism, 93 were baptised in the Holy Spirit, while 159 people testified of instant healings and deliverance.

A counselling session held on the final morning at the Asikafo Assembly also provided guidance and prayer support for 81 individuals seeking help in various aspects of life.

As the crusade concluded with thanksgiving and celebration, Apostle Lawrence Otu-Nyarko commended the organising teams and encouraged members to sustain the revival by continuing to share the gospel in their communities, reaffirming the church’s commitment to the Possessing the Nations agenda.

The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has declared that death no longer holds power over those who believe in Jesus Christ, stressing that Christ’s death and resurrection have permanently defeated humanity’s final enemy.

Preaching on the theme “Victory Over Death” at the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC, Sakumono), Apostle Obuobi explained that death entered the world through sin and has since been a source of fear and sorrow for humanity. He described death as a tool used by the devil to enslave people through fear, noting that Scripture identifies death as the last enemy to be destroyed.

According to him, God’s solution to the problem of death was the incarnation of Jesus Christ. He explained that only by becoming human could Christ die, and only through His death could the power of death be broken. Citing Hebrews 2:14–15, he said Christ destroyed the devil, who held the power of death, and delivered believers from lifelong bondage to the fear of dying.

Apostle Obuobi further stated that death could not keep Jesus in its grip, as God raised Him from the dead, proving that death had lost its authority. He emphasised that Christ’s victory was achieved not for Himself alone, but for all who put their faith in Him.

He encouraged Christians to live with hope, reminding them that those who die in Christ will rise again at His return and receive glorified, imperishable bodies. The message, he noted, calls believers to face life—and death—with confidence, anchored in the assurance of eternal life through Jesus Christ, whom Scripture describes as the resurrection and the life.

The Church of Pentecost, Sabuli District, on Monday, 2nd February 2026, commissioned a Whiteboard Project for Sabuli MA Primary School and Sabuli Junior High School (JHS), reinforcing its commitment to improving education within the community.

Held at the Sabuli JHS premises, the commissioning marked a significant milestone in the District’s Vision 2028–driven community development efforts. Existing chalkboards in the two schools were replaced with modern white marker boards, creating cleaner, safer, and more effective teaching and learning environments.

In addition, the Church donated whiteboard markers, dusters, pens, Bibles, and other stationery to support teachers and enhance classroom instruction. The items were formally received by Mr. Richard Dery, Deputy Director of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES), Jirapa Municipal, who handed them to the Heads of the beneficiary schools.

Officials from the GES Jirapa Municipal present included Mr. Justine Boosoro (Assistant HR Manager), Mr. Daniel Angsogra (Circuit Supervisor), Mr. Issah Tamimu (Basic Schools Coordinator), and Mr. PUS Donald (Public Relations Officer). Also in attendance were the teaching staff, pupils, and representatives from the Sabuli Clinic.

Addressing the gathering, District Minister P/Ovr Ebenezer Enyinful explained that the project forms part of the broader Sabuli Community Development and Transformation Project. He emphasized that practical, Christ-centered initiatives in education, health, livelihoods, and community wellbeing are central to transforming lives and empowering households.

He encouraged pupils to remain disciplined and committed to their studies, noting that education is a vital tool for personal and community growth. P/Ovr Enyinful also expressed gratitude to Area Head Apostle Bernard Azizu and his wife, Mrs. Vida Abogorago, for their guidance and support.

Mr. Dery, representing GES, thanked the Church for complementing government efforts, assuring that the resources would be used judiciously, and prayed for God’s continued strength upon the Church to do more for the community.

The ceremony concluded in gratitude, reaffirming the Church of Pentecost, Sabuli District’s commitment to faith-driven community transformation.

Ghana’s long-standing conversation on the relationship between mission schools, religious freedom, and national identity has resurfaced with the Shafic Osman versus Wesley Girls’ High School case. This development invites the nation to reflect deeply on how faith-based institutions, many of which laid the foundations of modern education in Ghana, can remain true to their heritage while respecting the constitutional rights of all students. Mission schools have shaped generations of Ghanaian leaders, long before the state assumed full responsibility for public education. Their Christian character is therefore not an afterthought but a key part of their history and identity. In the same vein, Islamic schools also maintain practices rooted in their faith tradition. In a diverse society, what feels natural to one group may feel restrictive to another, making open and honest dialogue essential.

At the heart of the current debate is the question of religious accommodation in public-aided mission schools. While the plaintiffs argue that certain school policies challenge Muslim religious expression, others believe that the historic ethos of mission schools should be preserved. Beneath the legal and public arguments lies a broader national concern: how to safeguard the identity of mission schools without marginalizing minority groups, and how to maintain harmony without diluting the values that shaped these institutions. Global experiences offer lessons. In parts of Europe and North America, governments struggled to define the boundaries of religious accommodation, leading to social tensions, unclear laws, and in some cases parallel systems of norm-setting that later became difficult to manage. Ghana must avoid such pitfalls by grounding its approach in fairness, clarity, and respect for both institutional identity and individual rights.

A balanced way forward requires transparency, clear guidelines, and respect for choice. Mission schools should be open about the core elements of their Christian identity – daily devotions, dress codes, and participation in school worship – so that parents understand what they are choosing. Likewise, national guidelines developed through consultation with Christian and Muslim stakeholders would ensure consistency and prevent confusion. Above all, Ghana must uphold the principle of one law for all while allowing schools to retain the character that makes them distinct.

As policymakers, judges and educational leaders deliberate, it is important to recognise that this conversation extends beyond Wesley Girls’ High School. The decisions made today will influence how future generations experience faith, identity, and education in Ghana. Careful, principled leadership will help preserve peace, honour our history, and strengthen the mutual respect that has long characterised our nation.

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost and President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches (GPCC), Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has called on Christians to reflect their divine identity through godly conduct in every aspect of life.

Speaking during a communion service on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the Abeka Central Assembly, Apostle Nyamekye provided an in-depth explanation of the Church’s established Rules of Conduct, asserting that members of the church are part of God’s household, redeemed and sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Quoting 1 Timothy 3:14–15, he urged believers to live in a way that draws others to Christ, stating, ‘We should conduct ourselves so that outsiders will want to join the family of God.’

He added:‘Everyone born again is bought by His blood. As members of this household, our conduct must reflect that holy heritage.’

Apostle Nyamekye outlined key areas of Christian conduct, beginning with personal devotion. He encouraged members to set aside daily time for prayer and meditation on the Word, referencing Psalm 1:1–2.

On corporate worship, he advised believers to prepare spiritually through fasting, especially on Fridays and birthdays, and be punctual at church, stating, ’If you arrive in church late, do not greet others; sit quietly and prepare your heart.’

Addressing family life, he reminded parents of their duty to raise children in the fear of the Lord, citing Joshua 24:15. He also encouraged members to support their pastors as both leaders and friends.

On communal living, Apostle Nyamekye urged believers to treat the church as their spiritual home, love one another, and avoid gossip or disrespectful speech. 

He also spoke on worship etiquette, encouraging reverence, attentiveness, and heartfelt praise. 

Touching on sexual ethics, he quoted Hebrews 13:4, affirming the importance of chastity and marital fidelity. He also called for integrity in business, urging members to avoid dishonest practices and harmful substances like alcohol, cigarettes, and narcotics (Proverbs 21:6).

‘Be the best father, mother, teacher, student, and be exemplary everywhere you go,’ he charged members of the church.

Also present at the service were Mrs Mary Nyamekye, wife of the Chairman; Apostle Samuel Osei Asante, Executive Council Member and Kaneshie Area Head, with his wife Elizabeth; Pastor Paul Danso of the Abeka District, among others.

The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), accompanied by a delegation of senior officials, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, visited the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, at the church’s general headquarters in La, Accra.

The meeting aimed to strengthen the Prisons Service’s ties with the church and to discuss ongoing and future collaborations between the two institutions.

Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie expressed her appreciation for the church’s involvement in her induction ceremony and the prayers offered on her behalf. She also shared a personal connection with The Church of Pentecost.

Highlighting the church’s contributions, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie stated: ‘The Church of Pentecost has been a pillar of support for the Ghana Prisons Service. The church’s commitment to improving the lives of inmates is commendable.’

Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie also discussed innovative rehabilitation strategies that her administration intends to roll out with the support of the church.

In response, Apostle Eric Nyamekye expressed his appreciation for the visit and reiterated the church’s commitment to supporting the Ghana Prisons Service. He emphasised the church’s mandate to contribute to national development.

‘Our inspiration is drawn from Hebrews 13:3, which admonishes us to remember those in prison as if we were together with them. We are not just constructing buildings; we are investing in lives,’ he stated.

Apostle Nyamekye further stated: ‘We are committed to holistic rehabilitation, encompassing spiritual salvation, education, and overall well-being of inmates.’

Apostle Professor Agyapong Kodua, Vice Chancellor of Pentecost University, also addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of transformative education that the church seeks to undertake in the prisons. He outlined four key dimensions of the university’s educational initiatives: moral formation, national commitment, pastoral counselling, and skill development.

‘Our ultimate aim is to help inmates come out of prison transformed and ready to contribute positively to society,’ Apostle Professor Kodua emphasised.

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has underscored the need for spiritual transformation in today’s world, urging believers to embrace a life centred on Christ by moving beyond material pursuits to attain eternal significance.

‘A new life is not about money, jobs, houses, or cars,’ Apostle Nyamekye stated. ‘It is the life of God in man—eternal life that begins when we believe in Jesus Christ.’

He said this on Sunday, May 25, 2025, during a sermon he presented titled: ‘The World Needs a New Life,’ at the Merry Villas District in the La Area of the church.

Referencing John 14:6, he highlighted that true life is found in Christ alone. He further explained that without Christ, individuals are prone to immoral behaviours, as outlined in Galatians 5:19.

He stated: ‘Without Christ, you cannot bear good fruits; the fruits of the Spirit.’

Drawing from 2 Corinthians 4:10-11, Apostle Nyamekye indicated that the life of Christ should be evident in every aspect of a believer’s life, saying, ‘Our worldly body will perish, but the life of Christ in us should be revealed in our speech and conduct so that others may come to know Him.’

He stressed the importance of preaching the message of new life systematically, citing 1 John 5:12 and John 20:31. According to him, there are two kinds of people in this world: children of God and the others, revealing that if a person dies in their sin, there is no repentance for them.

Apostle Nyamekye also highlighted the significance of Gospel Sundays, encouraging believers to share their testimonies and preach the gospel as if addressing those outside the church.

‘We are reminded to preach the gospel and tell of the salvation message of Christ; how you have been saved from your old life into a new one,’ he noted.

He called on church leaders to equip members with the necessary tools to evangelise effectively. He bemoaned that most Christians do not know how to bring people to Christ. ‘As leaders, we should make intentional efforts to teach our members how to win souls,’ he advised.

Concluding his message, Apostle Nyamekye challenged believers to make soul-winning a personal mission, saying, ‘We must make it a habit to bring at least one soul to Christ.’
