A mammoth burial and memorial service was held on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Twifo Nyinase in Assin Foso Area of The Church of Pentecost for the late Pastor Dr. Joseph Quayesi-Amakye whose sudden death occurred on Wednesday, 21st November, 2018.
The solemn event which was officiated by the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, was attended by people from all walks of life, including some members of the Executive Council.
Apostle Eric Nyamekye in a word of encouragement to the bereaved family and the gathering, said God has a purpose for allowing death on earth. He however said that it is better to be at funerals than at a place of feasting, because it prepares one’s heart and mind for their end too.
Delivering the sermon on the theme, “To Live is Christ, to Die is Profit” (Philippians 1:21-24, Matthew 16:21-24), Apostle Christian Tsekpoe, a Lecturer at the Pentecost University College, said life on earth is like doing a business and one’s profit or loss is dependent on how he or she lives.
He said regardless of how humans see death- whether as a regrettable or a profitable experience, it is inevitable. “Man sees death as a regrettable experience because he is just a human. God sees death as profitable because He is God,” he opined.
Biography of Pastor Dr. Joseph Quayesi-Amakye
The late Pastor Dr. Joseph Quayesi-Amakye was born on Monday, March 4, 1963 at Twifo Adugyaa in the Central Region to Elder Joseph Kwasi Baffoe and Madam Joana Adjei, both of blessed memory.
He had his basic education at the AME Zion Primary School at Twifo Adugyaa and L/A Catholic Middle School at Twifo Nyinase. After the elementary school, he gained admission to the Swedru Secondary School and completed in 1981 with the GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate.
He pursued a three-year Post-Secondary Certificate ‘A’ Course at the Presbyterian Training College, Akwapim Akropong and completed in 1986. He later obtained his GCE ‘A’ Level Certificate through private studies.
His journey in pursuing of Theological Studies started in Benin City in Nigeria in 1997 where he undertook a one-year certificate course in Charismatic Studies at the late Archbishop Benson Indahosa’s All Nations for Christ Bible Training Institute International. As studios as he was, he further pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology, an M.Phil. and a PhD from the Central University, University of Cape Coast and Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam respectively.
He taught at the Central University and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Lecturer, Head of Department and Acting Dean of the School of Theology and Missions.
He was later appointed Acting Dean of the School of Theology and Missions, a position he held until February 28, 2017 when the resigned to take up an appointment with The Church of Pentecost as a full-time Minister.
He was appointed Dean of Studies at the Pentecost Theological Seminary from March to December 2017. On January 1, 2018 he was transferred to the Pentecost University College, as the Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Missions, a position he occupied till he went to be with the Lord.
Pastor Dr. Joseph Quayesi-Amakye contributed immensely towards the cause of Pentecostalism in Ghana and beyond. He participated and served as a resource person in many conferences, workshops, seminars, retreats and church services. He served as an Adjunct Lecturer in many Christian institutions.
He died at the age of 55 and was survived by a wife, Mrs. Lydia Amakye and five children (three males and two females).
