Chairman Outlines COP Strategic Partnership With Government

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost (COP), Apostle Eric Nyamekye, says the Church will in the next five years enhance partnership with Government to help achieve its sustainable development agenda.

This, he said, is part of the Church’s Vision 2023 provision on Church-State strategic partnership in contributing to the transformation of Ghana.

Speaking at the launch of the ‘Environmental Care Campaign’ in Accra on Thursday, November 22, 2018, the Chairman outlined some of the interventions as: partnering Government to provide potable drinking water in some selected deprived communities in the country; initiate a programme in collaboration with the Government to put up Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds to improve access to health care in some parts of the country, and partnering the Government to establish more public basic schools at strategic places to enable the poor have improved access to education.

“We will initiate a security-based development project dubbed ‘Police Station and Post Project (PSPP)’ to put up police stations/police posts in some selected deprived communities and insecure areas. This will be our contribution to Government efforts to provide police posts in communities where they are needed,” he said.

Apostle Nyamekye further announced that the Church in collaboration with the Ghana Prisons Service, will initiate the construction of accommodation facilities (cells) for selected prisons in the country as part of efforts to support Government in easing congestions in the prisons.

He stated: “As part of our efforts to promote the values and principles of the Kingdom of God in our state and non-state institutions, the Church shall seek to train more chaplains and deploy them to various institutions such as the military, police, prisons, hospice/hospitals, sports, orphanages, palaces, as well as some corporate institutions.”

He stressed the Church’s commitment to strengthening ministry to persons with disabilities, saying, “… we shall design intervention programmes to help us care and attend to the needs of the disabled community such as the provision of braille materials for people who are blind, listening devices for the hearing impaired, and further equip them with the needed skills to be productive.”

The Chairman encouraged all administrative Areas and districts of the Church across the country to endeavour to construct shelters at bus stops for communal use, and also identify community challenges that the Church can work on in contributing to community level development.

The Environmental Care Campaign is a collaboration with Zoomlion Company Ghana Limited and the Government of Ghana. It is under the slogan, “Environmental Care, My Responsibility” with the hashtag #CleanGhana. It is envisaged that through the campaign which comes with clean-up exercises and attitudinal change, Ghana will be a cleaned country devoid of filth by the end of 2019.
