A retirement service was held for two esteemed officers of the Merry Villas District in the La Area of The Church of Pentecost.

The two officers, Deacon Wellies Lumor and Deaconess Wilhermina Torto, served in various capacities for 32 and 33 years, respectively.

The service took place on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Merry Villas Central Assembly and was attended by several dignitaries, including the Area Head, Apostle Dr. Dieudonne Komla Nuekpe and his wife, as well as Apostle Kingsley Addai, the Resident Minister of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC), Kokomlemle, and Apostle Derrick Mireku (Rtd), a former District Pastor of Merry Villas.

Also present were the District Pastor of the Danquah Worship Centre, Paul Odartey Laryea, and other pastors: Emmanuel Abugre, Godwin Arko Addo, and Jeremiah Pappoe, along with their wives.

In his sermon titled “Eternal Rewards,” Pastor Paul Odartey Laryea highlighted three main components of rewards — the biblical perspective on eternal rewards, the distinction between earthly and eternal rewards, and how to live in a manner that secures eternal rewards.

Pastor Odartey Laryea urged members, and Christians in general, to realign their priorities toward eternal rewards, emphasising that God expects believers to live beyond earthly successes and material gains. He referenced the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:4-7, explaining that rewards are blessings or benefits earned through good service and effort, as Jesus linked specific actions to eternal rewards.

He further stated that God rewards believers based on their good actions and thoughts (Hebrews 11:6), endurance in trials (James 1:12), and generosity and sacrifices (Luke 6:38).

Using scripture references from Mark 10:28-30, Colossians 3:24, and Revelation 22:12, he noted that, unlike temporary earthly rewards, eternal rewards are permanent and incorruptible, given to believers for their faithful service.

Pastor Laryea concluded his message with encouragement from Galatians 6:9 and 1 Corinthians 15:58, urging members to continue their good works in pursuit of eternal rewards.
