Marriage Was Instituted By God – Apostle Debrah

The Kintampo Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Gideon Obeng-Darko Debrah, has advised all and sundry to see marriage as an institution ordained by God and not culture.

To understand the true meaning of marriage, he underscored the need for couples to trace it to the beginning of creation when God placed the first man and the woman in the Garden of Eden. “Though culture is an important component of marriage, it must always be placed under the authority of the Bible,” he explained.

Apostle Debrah said this during a sermon on the topic, “Marriage and Family Life” in a live service on Adars FM, a private radio station in Kintampo on Sunday, May 17, 2020.

Using Matthew 19:3-10; Genesis 2:18, 21-25 and Ephesians 5:21-33 as his main Scriptures, he stated: “Marriage is a glorious and beautiful thing but it can also be disastrous if not properly ventured into or when one refuses to apply the principles of God even though God ordained it to be a blessing.”

He said that it is very prudent to always trace the origin, style and mode of marriage to the beginning, saying, “It will be a very big mistake to apply man-made culture, philosophies, ideologies and models in marriage.”

He added that in the beginning, God created them male and female, therefore, all those who have gone in for many wives and those engaged in homosexuality and lesbianism have violated the very purpose of God for marriage.

He also advised men who give flimsy excuses for divorcing their wives to desist from such behaviour, for God’s purpose for marriage was for life and that He hated divorce (Malachi 2:16).

Outlining the responsibilities of husbands and wives, Apostle stated that, “just as Christ is the head of the Church, so wives must see their husband as heads, the authority figure at home and must show respect to them at all times.

“Also, just as Christ died for the Church, husbands must be ever ready to die for their wives and also use sweet words to make their marriages radiant and glorious, for women love sweet words,” he said.

Apostle Gideon Obeng-Darko Debrah concluded by advising couples to submit to each other. He also advised singles to patiently wait on God before entering into marriage and must avoid rushing into it.
