The Koforidua and Effiduase Areas of The Church of Pentecost have jointly launched ‘Agent of Peace Campaign’ ahead of this year’s general elections.

The launch took place on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the Central Tabernacle in Koforidua, the Eastern regional capital.

The event, aimed at fostering peace ahead of the December 7 Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections, drew a diverse audience of political, religious, and social leaders, including traditional rulers, the Regional Chief Imam, and security chiefs.

The theme of the campaign, ‘Seek Peace and Pursue It’ (Psalm 34:14b), emphasises the need for unity and understanding, particularly in the tense pre-election period.

In an address, Apostle Mike Etrue, the Koforidua Area Head and Chairman of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Committee, who also doubles as an Executive Council member of The Church of Pentecost, highlighted the value of peace in democracy, stating, ‘Peace is priceless, while violence is devastating and indiscriminate.’

Apostle Etrue reminded all stakeholders of the need to safeguard the peace Ghana is enjoying, stressing that peace is a collective responsibility.

He acknowledged how The Church of Pentecost is recognised for its peace-building initiatives during the 2016 and 2020 elections and promised that the church will continue to position itself as a moral voice in Ghanaian society.

He noted that the campaign is designed to encourage Ghanaians to engage in respectful and constructive dialogue rather than divisive rhetoric.

Drawing on the wisdom of leaders like Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr., the Koforidua Area Head stressed that peace is more than the absence of conflict—it requires daily efforts to foster empathy and unity.

He urged other peace-loving institutions to join the campaign, ensuring that the message of peace spreads across all sectors of Ghanaian society while emphasising the critical importance of maintaining order, with the peacefulness of the elections being ‘consequential to our existence and safety as a people.’

Apostle Etrue on behalf of The Church of Pentecost, encouraged all Ghanaians to become agents of peace, quoting Martin Luther King Jr. that, ‘The time is always right to do what is right.’
