Chairman Visits PENSEC-Kumasi

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, on Friday, June 18, 2021, paid a visit to the Pentecost Senior High School (PENSEC) located at Bremang in the Ashanti Region as part of his two-week working visit to the churches in Greater Kumasi. 

The Headmaster, Elder Albert Mensah, led the Chairman to inspect works on the ongoing Girls’ Dormitory Block project funded by the General Headquarters of the church. He also inspected an art exhibition by the Visual Arts Department of the School. 

In his address, the headmaster revealed that the school started in 2006 as a private school. It was, however, absorbed in 2017 by the government of Ghana under the Free SHS policy. As a result, the school currently has a student population of 1,700 with 80 teaching and 16 non-teaching staff.

Mr. Mensah said that PENSEC was ranked the 10th best performing Senior High School in the Ashanti Region in the 2020 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

He also expressed hope that by 2022 the school would have attained a boarding-house status.

Addressing staff and students of the school, Apostle Eric Nyamekye disclosed that when he was an Executive Council member and Area Head for Koforidua in 2017, he strongly advocated for the church to partner with the government in managing the Pentecost Senior High Schools which was dwindling in student enrolment at that time. He was thankful to God for the fruits of the collaboration the church had with the government. He added that PENSEC is part of the ‘possessing the nations’ agenda of the church. This is because, as students undergo training in school, they are expected to become agents of transformation wherever they find themselves.

The Chairman encouraged the teaching staff to exert much effort in their work to make PENSEC-Kumasi a ‘Grade A’ school, stressing that the greatness of the schools largely depends on the teachers. He also encouraged every teacher to have an attitudinal change by focusing on the future and not just the now (present situation).  

To the students, he said that “life can be meaningful depending on how you do it.” He also advised them to take their assignments seriously, make good use of time spent on campus and avoid bad friends. “In this way, you will become proud when you receive your WASSCE results in the end,” he added. 

Apostle Nyamekye was accompanied by Apostle Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua (Vice-Chancellor, Pentecost University), Apostle Samuel Antwi (New Tafo Area Head) and the New Tafo area pastorate.

Tarkwa Area Dedicates Baptistery For Ghana Prisons Service

The Tarkwa Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Daniel Okyere Walker, on Thursday, January 28, 2021, dedicated a baptistery worth more than GH¢ 10,000.00 at the Tarkwa Prisons.

The project, financed by the Tarkwa Area Deacon of the church, Elder John Arthur, and his wife Jane, also saw the painting of the entire prison’s facility.

In an interview with Pentecost News, the Tarkwa Area Prisons Committee Chairman, Pastor Charles Owusu Mpiani, indicated that the baptistery was a needed tool for promoting the church’s evangelistic activities in the prisons since it will provide a readily available place to baptise inmates who give their lives to Jesus Christ.

Apostle Dr. Walker assured the authorities of the church’s continued support towards the upkeep of the inmates and the Ghana Prisons Service.

The Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the Tarkwa Prisons, Kwaku Ababio Ali, on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service and the inmates, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the leadership of The Church of Pentecost and the financiers, Elder John and Mrs. Jane Arthur for the gesture.

As part of the commissioning ceremony, the Area also presented assorted items worth over GH¢ 2,000.00 to the Prisons.

The items included tissue papers, liquid soaps, toiletries, cartoons of bottled water, detergents, among several others.

The dedication of the baptistry and the donation were done at the sidelines of the 2021 Western Regional Ministers and Wives’ Conference which took place at the E. K. Kyei Memorial Temple, Tarkwa.

Present to assist Apostle Dr. Walker, who is an Executive Council Member and Chairman of the Western Regional Coordinating Committee, were the Area Heads from the Western and Western North regions.

They are Apostle Joseph Kwame Assabil (Takoradi Area Head), Apostle Daniel Kodjoe Sey (Sekondi Area Head), Apostle Emmanuel Kwasi Osei Ofosu (Sefwi Bekwai Area Head), Apostle Philip Osei Korsah (Axim Area Head), Apostle Robert Kwabena Andoh (Essam-Debiso Area) and their wives.

Eastern Regional Ministers & Wives’ Conference Takes Off

This Ministers and Wives’ Conference of The Church of Pentecost took off as scheduled in the Eastern Region on Monday, January 25, at the Central Tabernacle, Koforidua. All nine Area Heads of the church in the region, together with the pastorate and their spouses, arrived at the event venue with ecstasy and a strong desire to seek the face of God.

In his opening address, the Chairman of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Committee (ERCC) of the church, Apostle Samuel Osei Asante, said the year 2020 would go down as one of the most challenging years in history. He noted the huge number of COVID-19 cases recorded globally so far and its devastating effects on the world economy, livelihoods, and church life. 

He said despite the negative impact of the pandemic, the church has experienced significant growth through the use of media and technology. “Thanks to the virus, the leadership of the church and membership have become more conversant with Social Media,” he explained.

According to him, the spate of the coronavirus led The Church of Pentecost to explore new ways of doing things. For instance, for the first time, The Church of Pentecost organised its first-ever online Council Meeting and adopted an electronic voting process.

He further noted that the impact of the pandemic also caused the church to organise the Heads’ Meeting virtually at the regional levels; and has now necessitated the organisation of the annual Ministers and Wives’ Conference at regional levels. 

Touching on the rationale behind the church’s theme for the year 2021, ”A Glorious Church Revived to Possess the Nations,” he noted that, after prayerful consideration, the leadership of the church decided to repeat the 2020 theme and has only introduced the word “Revived.” In view of this, the various aspects (topics) of the theme such as “That There May Be Glory In The Church,” “The Church Called To Holy Living,” and “The Power and Beauty of Christian Fellowship,” among others, would be treated again with the aim of sparking a revival in the church.

He reiterated the words of the Psalmist; “Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?” (Psalm 85:6) and prayed that these words would ring deep in the hearts of ministers and their wives and cause a mighty revival in the church.

He also encouraged participants to take active part in the conference and avail themselves for the mighty move of the Lord amongst them, after which he officially the declared the event opened on behalf of the Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye.

After the presentation, Apostle Isaac Ekow Eshun of the Asamankese Area led the house through a Spirit-inspired session of fervent prayer during which the presence of God was mightily felt.

A deep hunger for a long-lasting revival was stirred up in the hearts of participants at the opening session – a clear indication of the strong wind of revival expected in the coming days.

Apostle Prof Onyinah Inducted Bible Society of Ghana President 1

The immediate past Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, has been inducted as the President of the Bible Society of Ghana, with Madam Matilda Amissah-Arthur (former 2nd Lady of the Republic of Ghana) and Mrs. Florence Hutchful as Vice Presidents.

Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah took over from Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee of the Salt and Light Ministries.

His induction service took place during the Society’s 2020 Annual General Meeting held at the Evangel Assemblies of God Church at Adabraka, Accra, on Thursday, October 1, 2020.

According to the General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Enock Aryee-Atta, Apostle Prof. Onyinah was elected by the Council of the Society through physical and virtual elections.

In his remarks, Apostle Prof. Onyinah thanked members of the Society for the confidence reposed in him and called for their continued support for its activities. “Beloved, it is indeed humbling to serve you as president and I pray that you continue to support the Society so that it will be a beacon of God’s glory to all people,” he said.

Prior to his induction, The Church of Pentecost in a letter signed by Apostle David Tettey Tekper, Executive Council Member and Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Committee, on behalf of Chairman of the Church, Eric Nyamekye, congratulated the Apostle Prof. Onyinah on his new position.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of Pentecost University, Apostle Dr. Daniel Walker, congratulated Apostle Prof. Onyinah on assuming the new position. “We as a University and Church are proud to associate with Prof Onyinah and the new mandate God has bestowed on him. We wish him the best,” he stated.

Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah is the immediate past Chancellor of the Pentecost University and President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC).

He served as a full-time minister of the Church for 42 years during which he held many high-profile positions. Notable among them were International Missions Director, Rector of Pentecost University College between 2003 and 2008, and Chairman of the Church from 2008 to 2018.

Currently, he is a lecturer at the School of Theology, Mission and Leadership of Pentecost University.
