Seek Peace And Pursue It!

The world today is not like the one that God created in Genesis 1:31. Adam’s disobedience toward God brought about damning changes that affected not only each one of us but also creation itself.

From a garden of tranquillity where humans and animals coexisted in harmony, we were transitioned into a new world where we prey on each other. Furthermore, there is an increase in earthquakes and other natural disasters that continuously threaten life and property. But worst of it all is the animosity fueled by the differences in the cultures among the people of the world, which traces back to the story of the Tower of Babel in the Bible (Genesis 11:1-9).

This incredible story involves the people of Babel attempting to build a tower that would reach to heaven in direct contradiction to the command of God for them to multiply and fill the whole earth. To forestall this rebellion, God brought into existence multiple languages, thus, dividing humans into various linguistic groups that were unable to understand one another.

This is one of the saddest and yet most significant stories in the Bible. It is sad because it reveals the widespread rebellion in the human heart which resulted from the introduction of sin into our world. On the other hand, it also brought about the reshaping and development of all the cultures that highlights the differences among all the people of the world. Peace is, therefore, essential because it is the only means by which such different groups of people can coexist or cohabit in this world.

The question then becomes, how do you obtain peace in a world that is more opposed to good than evil, more divided than united, and more imperfect than perfect? It would, therefore, require a conscious effort of its inhabitants to pursue what is in the best interest of all. After all, we cannot do much about our differences, but we can make an effort to live in peace with each other when we value and appreciate our diversity.

In this regard, Ghana, a country that boasts more than seventy different ethnic groups, each with its own distinct language, has been a shining example since its independence in 1957. Aside from the many blessings of natural resources and vast arable lands, Ghana is generally blessed with peace-loving people. For many years now, we have rallied around our Ghana flag and remained a united nation earning us the enviable accolade as the beacon of democracy on the African continent.

However, this has not come on a silver platter, rather, by a conscious effort by all and sundry to commit to maintaining peace, especially during the past seven presidential and parliamentary elections, which we have successfully organised in a peaceful, fair, and free manner with very minor security concerns.

As we head to the December 7 polls, we must not rest on our oars, but continue to remind ourselves of the need to maintain the peace in the country and consolidate the gains made so far in our young democracy.

As a very religious country, with Christians forming the majority of her population, the leadership of the various religious bodies ought to preach peace to their followers and insist on it. This, among other reasons, led The Church of Pentecost to introduce the “Agent of Peace” campaign in 2016 to drum home the need for the citizenry to be agents of peace before, during, and after the elections. This year, the second edition of the campaign was launched at the Burma Camp Worship Centre to raise more awareness on the need for peaceful general elections in order to maintain the tranquillity and stability of the country.

In her address, the referee for the electoral process, Mrs. Jean Mensa (Electoral Commissioner), who was the Special Guest of Honour for the event, assured the citizenry of her commitment to presiding over a free and fair election and also called on the Christian community to continue bearing her up in prayer for the enormous task ahead.

The “Agent of Peace” campaign is under the theme: “Seek Peace and Pursue It” (Psalm 34:17) and has since been replicated at the various areas and districts of the church.

The Christian population must therefore not relent but continue to pray into the general elections; consistently calling on our Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, to look favourably towards our nation during this sensitive period.

The electorates, especially the youth, are also advised to pursue peace and not to allow ourselves to be used to disturb the peace of the nation. We are all entitled to one vote and so let’s be content with it.

We must not forget that, in the end, it is only one candidate among the lot who would emerge victorious. This means that the likelihood that many would be disappointed after the results is a reality, however, it is important to stress that, it is not so much about having our preferred political party or candidate in power, but accepting the choice and will of God for our country.

In a nutshell, a peaceful general election requires all stakeholders – religious bodies, security agencies, political parties, the Electoral Commission, and the citizenry – contributing their quota towards the electoral process.

So, let us seek peace and pursue it, because a victory for Ghana, is a victory for all.

Lambussie District Inaugurated

The newly created Lambussie District in the Tumu Area of The Church of Pentecost has been inaugurated. The ceremony also coincided with the welcome service for the district minister, Probationary Overseer Elijah Kwadwo Koi, and his family.

The new district was created out of the Nandom District in the Wa Area. It has since been transferred to the Tumu Area following a re-demarcation exercise approved by the Executive Council of the Church.

The inauguration service, which took place on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, was officiated by the Tumu Area Head, Apostle Daniel Kweku Dekpor, assisted by the Wa Area Head, Apostle Dan Nii Tetteh Tackie.

Delivering the sermon on the topic, “Clear the Hurdles that Hinder the Spread of the Gospel,” based on John 13:34-35, Apostle Dan Nii Tetteh Tackie admonished Christians to do their very best to clear all hurdles that hinder the spread of the Gospel as in their quest to possess the nations for Christ.

He said that the hurdles are many and varied. He cited personal interests, partisan politics, tribalism, business and money, and worldliness.

Apostle Tackie said that the only way that could keep believers through is to love one another to prove that they are the disciples of Jesus Christ.

He further explained that the body of Christ must reflect and project God’s love, for unbelievers to acknowledge such wonderful love and submit their lives to Christ’s Lordship.

In attendance were some ministers and their wives from the Wa and Tumu Areas of the Church.

Assin Foso Area Bids Farewell To Apostle Sylvester Arhin

The Assin Foso Area of The Church of Pentecost has organised a farewell service for the outgoing Area Head, Apostle Sylvester Arhin.

The mammoth service, which took place on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at the Assin Foso Habitat Prayer Grounds, was officiated by the Cape Coast Area Head and Executive Council Member of the Church, Apostle Samuel Yaw Antwi.

Speaking on the theme, “Approach the Throne of Grace with Confidence,” based on Hebrews 4:14-16, the Agona Swedru Area Head, Apostle Derek Kwaning Mireku, called on believers to live a life of prayer.

He stated: “Prayer is the life-line of the church; it is our mode of communication with the throne room of God, and the church has been sustained since its inception through prayer.”

He, therefore, advised the church to continue steadfastly in prayer to maintain the presence and power of God in His church.

The outgoing Area Head, Apostle Arhin, arrived in Assin Foso Area three years ago from Australia in October 2017. His impact in the Area will remain forever. He has been transferred to the Tamale as Area Head.

Apostle Arhin is affable and down to earth. He is a teacher, a man of prayer, an excellent leader, an encourager with great interpersonal skills, and a tolerant person with a good sense of judgment.

He will be remembered for his weekly teachings on local radio stations, instituting the weekly Wednesday prayers. His evangelistic work led to an increase in the adult and children membership by 5,176 and 2,201 respectively. Under his 3-year leadership in the Area, one new Area (Twifo Praso Area) was carved out of the Assin Foso Area, while three new districts and 26 assemblies were established.

His mentoring and leadership development activities resulted in the calling of seven officers into the full-time ministry of the church and the ordination of 463 officers into the leadership of the church.

His tenure of leadership also saw the dedication of 48 church buildings and two mission houses with many other projects at different stages of completion. God through him also won a landmark case at the Cape Coast High Court for the church to secure the Assin Foso Pentecost Preparatory School lands.

Also present at the event were political and traditional leaders, ministers and their wives from the Area and other sister churches.

Kintampo Area Launches ‘Agent Of Peace’ Campaign

The Kintampo Area of The Church of Pentecost has launched the ‘Agent of Peace’ campaign, which is aimed at raising awareness on the need to maintain peace before, during, and after the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana.

The event, which took place on Friday, November 13, 2020, at the Kintampo Newtown Central Assembly, was preceded by a float from the Sawaba through the principal streets of Kintampo. The Area pastorate and their wives, as well as members of the Church, were clad in their beautiful ‘Agent of Peace’ branded caps and T-shirts marching through the principal streets with placards inscribed with messages of peace.

Speaking at the launch, the Kintampo Area Head, Apostle Gideon Obeng-Darko Debrah, called on all Ghanaians to make a conscious effort to seek peace and pursue it. He explained that peace is not a natural phenomenon; it has to be sought intentionally by all who desire it. “Peace doesn’t happen by chance, if we want peace, we must make conscious efforts and work towards achieving it,” he said.

He stressed that though Ghana has seen peaceful and successful elections in the past, the citizens must not be complacent, but rather pursue peace with all diligence during the December 7 general polls.

“The Church plays a key role as far as the peace of the nation is concerned, hence the need for the ‘Agent of Peace’ campaign,” he added.

Apostle Debrah, therefore, advised the youth to avoid violent acts and also charged them not to allow themselves to be used as a vehicle for violence by any political party or person before, during, or after the elections.

In attendance were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kintampo North, Hon. Michael Sarkodie Baffoe, the NCCE Director, the Divisional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, Divisional Police Commander, representatives from some political parties, chiefs in the municipality, the Municipal Director of the Centre for National Culture, and the Independent Parliamentary Candidate for Kintampo North, Nana Boateng.

All parties and stakeholders present pledged to be agents of peace and to maintain the peace of the nation.

Aflao Area Inaugurates French District (12)

Aflao Area Inaugurates French District

As part of the efforts to possess the nations for Christ, the Aflao Area of The Church of Pentecost has inaugurated the first French District in the Area.

The Aflao municipality shares boundary with neighbouring Togo, a Francophone nation. The municipality is a hub for trade and commercial activities, with Ewe, English, and French as the predominant languages spoken by the people. It is imperative, therefore, for the Church to create an environment where the gospel of Jesus Christ would be preached to every people group no matter their languages.

The Area Head, Apostle Peter Kofi Dzemekey, on 17th November, 2020, inaugurated a French District/PIWC at the Shekinah Assembly at Aflao. The service also coincided with the welcome service for the first District Minister, Pastor Eric Herbert Acheampong, and his wife, Serwaah.

The newly inaugurated district is made up of four French assemblies and one English assembly.

The service, which was conducted mostly in French, was attended by Apostle Komi Edna Agbavitoh (National Head of Togo), who was accompanied by the Area Secretary of Maritime in Lome, Togo. Also present were the Pastorate in the Aflao Area as well as members of the newly created district.

In a sermon, Apostle Komi Agbavitor spoke on the topic, “Every Language is Important to God.” Taking his scripture reading from Genesis 11:1-9, he explained that all creation was one, initially speaking the same language and living in the same place.

He said that God in His quest to cause men to multiply and fill the earth changed the language of the people. He stressed that no language is more important than the other, and called for an end to language segregation.

He concluded with a reading from Revelation 3:9, “And they sang a new song: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.’

According to Apostle Agbavitoh, since Jesus Christ has purchased all people in all nations by his blood, worship should be done in the language the people are comfortable with and readily understand.

The Aflao Area Head, Apostle Dzemekey, prayed for the leadership of the newly created district and charged them to work hard to ensure the realisation of the vision upon which the district was established.

Meanwhile, Apostle Peter Kofi Dzemekey has dedicated a set of musical instruments for the newly created district. He also laid the foundation stone for their mission house.

Sisi church building (2)

Asesewa Sisi, Akrusu Yiti CBCBs Dedicated

The Asesewa Sisi and Akrusu Yiti Community Based Church Buildings (CBCBs) in the Asesewa District of the Agormanya Area of The Church of Pentecost have been dedicated. The buildings were dedicated by the Area Head, Apostle James Gabriel Quardson. He was assisted by the Asesewa District Minister, Pastor George Owusu.

In a sermon based on 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Nehemiah 2:17-20, the immediate past Asesewa District Minister, Pastor Emmanuel Assah-Awuku, preached on the topic: “Let us rebuild the Gates.”

Expounding Nehemiah 2:17-20, he elaborated that the ‘Sheep Gate’ refers to Jesus Christ who laid down his life for humanity. According to him, the ‘Fish Gate’ also refers to soul winning, while the ‘Old Gate’ and the ‘Valley Gate’ represent humanity’s old sinful nature and believers’ sufferings respectively. He further mentioned the ‘Fountain Gate’ which, he said, symbolises the Holy Spirit whom believers should be filled us.

“As Christians, we are to build all these gates and abide by the word of God,” he admonished.

Pastor Assah-Awuku urged believers to be prayerful, studious with the word of God, and cultivate a deep relationship with God.

The Area Head, Apostle Quardson, on his part, commended the members for their commitment towards the completion of the two church buildings.

Prayers were said for the country for a peaceful general election.

Also in attendance were ministers and their wives in the Upper Krobo Zone of the Agormanya Area, Mrs. Lucy Assah-Awuku (wife of the immediate past District Minister), among others.

Bear each other

Bear With One Another In Love – Apostle Nyamekye Urges Christians

Christians should make every effort to bear with one another in love in order to hold the unity of the body of Christ, the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has advised.

Referring to Ephesians 4, Apostle Nyamekye outlined some qualities and attributes required of believers in managing and containing each other in the family of God.

According to him, since the body of Christ (the Church) is made up of people with different background and training, certainly, there will be some kind of behaviours that need to be tolerated and accommodated just to keep the unity of the Spirit when such attitudes do not breach the basics of the Gospel.

“If what we do, say, eat, like, wear does not contravene the fundamentals of the Gospel, then we must try to bear with one another,” he said.

Apostle Nyamekye said this in a sermon he preached to conclude his teachings on November 22, 2020, during the Special Sunday Evening Service on PENT TV.

Reading from Acts 15:19-21 and Romans 14:1-6, 13-17, the Chairman explained that bearing with one another is making concessions for the weak. This, according to him, will make it easier to break bread together as the custom of the early church was.

“For the unity of the body, we need to endeavour to hold the church together. Sometimes we need to make a concession when it doesn’t go against the core message of the Gospel so we can accommodate our brothers,” he reiterated.

He, however, cautioned Christians against overbearing in their bid to make concessions as the effort of every member of the body of Christ is required in holding the church together.

Apostle Nyamekye pointed out that Christ has made some provisions in the heart of believers to be able to accommodate one another (Romans 5:5).

“So apart from the work on the cross; apart from the prayer He prayed before He went on the cross; apart from intercessory prayer that He is constantly making for us and what the Elders do by helping us unite by giving us good teachings, in every believer’s heart Christ has poured the love of God,” he said, adding, “So when we want to operate, let’s operate from that perspective that there is the love of God in our heart that is able to accommodate one another’s failing and weakness.”

Explaining what to do to help one another in the body of Christ, Apostle Eric Nyamekye charged Christians to see value in one another by recognising the graces upon one another (Ephesians 4:7), honour one another (Romans 12:10), share each other’s burden (Galatians 6:2), encourage one another (Hebrews 3:12-13), exhort, teach and admonish one another (Ephesians 5:19-21; Colossians 3:16).

“As members of the body of Christ, we must love one another (John 13:30), serve one another (John 13:11), support one another (Acts 2:45), pray for one another (2 Thessalonians 2:5), spur one another on (Colossians 4:17), rejoice with one another and mourn with one another (Romans 12:15), and be everything for another,” he added.

“We are of the same family and we need to unite and fight the devil and make the kingdoms of the world become the Kingdom of our God. There is a race that we must run; there are victories to be won.

“We need to try and sit at the Master’s table as brothers. Let us work hard at the unity of the Spirit; accomodating one another’s failing.

“Being gentle and patience; being very humble and living the life that we have been called to, the life of holiness, we will be able to forge the unity of the Spirit,” the Chairman concluded.

Evangelist Moses Kenney Bows Out Of The Full-Time Ministry

Evangelist Moses Kenney Bows Out Of The Full-Time Ministry

After 31 years of meritorious service in the full-time ministry, the Ejisu Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Evangelist Moses Agratey Kenney, has brought his ministerial journey to a successful end.

The mammoth retirement service, which took place on Sunday, November 15, 2020, at the Ejisu Central Assembly building, was officiated by the Koforidua Area Head and Executive Council Member of the Church, Apostle Samuel Osei Asante.

The atmosphere was filled with joy, admiration, and praise to the Almighty God for His unfailing kindness to Evangelist Agratey and his family for the great impact of their ministry to the Ejisu Area and the entire Church.

Preaching on the topic, “Finishing the Race Set before You by God,” Apostle Osei Asante indicated that the call into the full-time ministry of the church is like a race and a journey. “Every journey or race has a start and finish line. In the same way, ministerial service is a race; it has a start and a finish line,” he said.

Reading from Numbers 8:23–26, he explained that, “one cannot be in ministry forever, because as the years go by, the minister ages and declines in strength. At this point, he is drawing close to the finish line of his race. God, therefore, makes provision for the younger generation to take over and continue the race, while the old retire and rest from their labours.”

He, therefore, advised all believers to be mindful of the times and seasons and to make the most of every opportunity, preaching the Word in season and out of season, so that their work will be remembered and rewarded when they reach old age and retire from active service.

“Let us learn from the example set by Evangelist Kenney; let us do our best with the time we have so that when we can work no more, our labour and impact will be remembered and rewarded,” he reiterated.

Evangelist Kenney was called into the full-time ministry of the Church in 1989. He served the Church at six stations. These were Dede Sewirako, Atebubu, Laterbiokorshie, Oforikrom, Cape Coast, and Ejisu, where he retired as an Area Head.

Evangelist Kenney placed evangelism at the core of his ministry. He has an affable and down-to-earth nature. He also has immense support from his wife, who won the hearts of many with her humble, soft-spoken, and patient demeanor. She was a great prayer warrior, encourager, and a good counselor.

Apostle S. O. Asante presented a plaque to Evangelist Kenney acknowledging his contribution to the building of God’s kingdom.

In his response, Evangelist Moses Agratey Kenney and his family expressed their gratitude to God for His unfailing grace throughout the 31 years of service to the Kingdom.

In attendance were Apostles David Tettey Terkper (Achimota Area Head), Onyinah Gyamfi (Bogoso Area Head), F. K. Andoh (Konongo Area Head), William Ohemeng Kwakye (Sawla Area Head), Daniel Dekpor (Tumu Area Head), R. C. Ackon (Asankrangwa Area Head), Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe (Haatso Area Head), G. K. Narh (Rtd), and J. S. Gyimah (Rtd).

Also present to grace the occasion was the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, Hon. Gloria Timah Gambrah, the Area Pastorate, delegations from all the stations he served as well as family and friends from far and near.
