An Associate Professor of Educational Innovations at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Deputy Director of the Youth Ministry of The Church of Pentecost, Elder Professor Eric Appau Asante, has hinted that pursuing one’s calling necessitates a commitment to excellence, which should be evident throughout their educational journey.

Delivering a sermon titled, ‘Excelling in Your Academic, Professional, and Career Life,’ on Saturday, January 4, 2025, during the ongoing PENSA Ghana Conference 2025 at the University for Development Studies in Tamale, he revealed that a godly life must radiate excellence, adding, ‘Achieving academic success requires diligence, divine grace, and hard work.’

He advised students to avoid studying in bed, noting that it can lead to relaxation and sleepiness, thereby hindering academic performance.

Prof. Asante also cautioned against last-minute studying and underscored the importance of regular class attendance, effective time management, and choosing friends who are dedicated both to their faith and studies.

The Deputy Youth Director encouraged students to utilise libraries, participate in conferences and seminars, and take on leadership roles to enhance their academic excellence.

‘Serving God is not magic; it is practical,’ he remarked, urging intentional efforts in all endeavours.

A powerful move of the Holy Spirit was witnessed at the KNUST satellite centre during the Friday evening session of the PENSA Ghana Conference 2025, as 76 participants were baptised in the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues.

The divine encounter occurred during a visit by the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, who ministered on the topic, ‘Speaking in Tongues: A Divine Means of Spiritual Edification.’

In his message, Apostle Nyamekye emphasised the mystery and significance of speaking in tongues, stating that it is an act of spiritual edification that cannot be fully explained or understood.

Reading from 1 Corinthians 14:4, he stated: ‘He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself, builds himself up, or charges himself up.’

He likened speaking in tongues to charging a battery, indicating that as believers pray in the Spirit, they are spiritually strengthened and empowered.

‘Just as we charge the batteries of our devices for daily use, every believer must roar in the Spirit when we wake up each morning to edify and charge ourselves for the day ahead,’ he encouraged.

At the end of his message, Apostle Nyamekye invited participants who had not yet received the gift of speaking in tongues to come forward for prayer, leading to 76 of them receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Apostle Nyamekye cautioned the youth that speaking in tongues is not the ultimate goal. He, therefore, urged believers to go deeper in their relationship with God, building themselves up through prayer, fasting, and waiting on the Lord. He encouraged them to draw from the deep wells of the Spirit to grow in spiritual wisdom, maturity, and understanding.

The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has disclosed that God’s promise to pour out His Spirit abundantly upon all people transcends sex, tribe, nationality, colour, or social status.

‘This means that God promises to pour out His Spirit without limitations,’ Apostle Obuobi stated, when he delivered a sermon on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the ongoing PENSA Ghana Conference at the University for Development Studies in Tamale.

Reading from Joel 2:27-28, he stressed that the Holy Ghost is not reserved for ministers or officers of the church, but for every believer, irrespective of their status in society.

Further reading from Ephesians 5:18, he highlighted Apostle Paul’s counsel to the Ephesian church to live wisely, urging them not to be drunk with wine but to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

‘To be filled with the Holy Spirit is not a one-time event,’ he explained, adding, ‘It does not occur once, and it is over.’

He elaborated on the continuous nature of being filled with the Holy Spirit, distinguishing it from the initial baptism of the Holy Spirit, which is often evidenced by speaking in tongues.

‘We should let the whole world hear that by the virgin birth of Jesus, He is the only one who can save us,’ he proclaimed.

The General Secretary encouraged believers to walk confidently assured of God’s ever-abiding presence.

‘We will not walk in fear of demons, witches, or any satanic powers,’ he said.

Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi concluded by reminding young people of Jesus’ promise in Matthew 28:20: ‘Even when we come face to face with death, He is with us.’

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost and President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has stated the need for believers to receive the Holy Spirit baptism, describing it as ‘a divine means of spiritual edification.’

According to him, praying in tongues is a way of charging one’s spirit by the power of the Holy Ghost. He strongly advised the youth to strengthen their inner man for effective ministry.

The Chairman was speaking at the PENSA Ghana Conference 2025 at the KNUST, Kumasi centre on Friday evening on the theme: ‘Speaking in Tongues, a Divine Means of Spiritual Edification.’

Referencing 1 Corinthians 14, he explained why the early Church esteemed speaking in tongues over prophesying, saying, ‘Prophesying is encouraging and comforting the Church, while speaking in tongues is about building oneself up. One is for the Church, and the other is for personal empowerment.’

He noted that through praying in the Holy Ghost, God strengthens the inner man and makes him fit for His purpose, asserting that speaking in tongues helps the believer to pray in line with the perfect will of God.

Apostle Nyamekye dispelled various notions arising from speculation about speaking in tongues and interpretation, revealing that ‘people criticise it because they do not understand. The language is not to men but to God, and what remains unexplained and unknown must be unknown to men and unexplained.’

He charged the youth to use the gift frequently and effectively to build themselves up, open doors to effective ministry, lead to a deeper life in Christ, and keep the enemy at a distance.

Wrapping up with Acts 2:37, he affirmed: ‘The gift is for us and those far off because it is an indication that God has called us. This tradition must continue.’

Prophet Kwasi Asante Annor, the Resident Minister of PIWC Trasacco in the Madina Area of The Church of Pentecost, has urged young people to embrace fasting and prayers to effectively fulfill their calling.

He stated that to successfully run the Christian race, it is essential to adopt the discipline of prayer and fasting. This practice, he noted, will energise, empower, and equip individuals for transformation – an attribute that is gradually diminishing and needs revival.

Prophet Annor shared these insights during the Day 2 morning session of the PENSA Ghana ‘Walk the Calling’ Conference at KNUST, Kumasi. He spoke on the theme, ‘The Practice of Waiting Upon God through Fasting and Prayer’ (Jeremiah 6:16, Joel 2:15, Isaiah 40:31).

He stated: ‘The believer faces three main challenges: the flesh, the world and its system, and the devil. One way to overcome these is through discipline, by understanding the mystery of waiting through fasting and prayers.’

The former General Manager of Pent TV disclosed that the founding fathers of the church consistently waited on God through fasting and prayers which helped them tap into the supernatural to bring heaven down. He cited examples from the Bible, including Moses, Elijah, Esther, David, Anna the prophetess, and Jesus Christ, as well as church founders like John Wesley and Rev. James McKeown, to inspire the gathering to embrace the practice of waiting.

He also encouraged participants to enter the field of prayer by setting aside gadgets that easily ensnare and distract them.

Prophet Annor cautioned that the power behind the conference theme is not about entertainment, but about prayer for fulfillment.

The session concluded with intensive prayers to demonstrate the power behind the Word.

A powerful ministration by Apostle Dr Amos Jimmy Markin, the RCC Coordinator for the Central Region and Cape Coast Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, at the ongoing PENSA Ghana Conference on Friday left the entire auditorium of the New Examination Centre (NEC) at the University of Cape Coast charged with divine fervour, leading many participants to experience a fresh encounter with God.

The prayer session following his presentation changed the atmosphere, with the Holy Spirit overflowing upon the participants.

As the prayers began, the mention of the name of Jesus set the hall ablaze with a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Participants experienced a powerful move of God, marked by prophetic utterances and an overwhelming sense of divine presence.

Apostle Dr Jimmy Markin earlier spoke on ‘The Purpose of Waiting in Prayer and Fasting’ which stirred a spiritual awakening among participants, leaving many energized with zeal and love for God and Kingdom works.

Known for his deep understanding of prayer, the immediate past Evangelism Director of the church emphasised the distinctiveness of waiting in prayer compared to daily prayer routines. Quoting Psalm 25:21, he encouraged young Christians to embrace the discipline of waiting on God, explaining that the practice breeds integrity, uprightness, and spiritual fortitude.

He noted that in prayer, believers do not only ask and seek but also patiently wait for God’s response, which strengthens and intensifies their connection to Him.

Apostle Dr Jimmy Markin’s teaching was not only instructional but transformative, as it prepared the youth to cultivate an enduring trust in God’s timing while igniting their commitment to prayer and fasting.

The intensity of the prayers reflected a shared hunger for a deeper encounter with God. Participants were reminded that waiting in prayer is an act of faith and reverence, one that aligns their desires with God’s will and strengthens their resolve to walk in His ways.

According to him, these practices are crucial for spiritual discipline and are essential for believers seeking a deeper connection with God.

Prophet Antwi said this on Friday, January 3, 2025, during the ongoing PENSA Ghana Conference at the University for Development Studies, Tamale centre.

Speaking on the topic, ‘The practice of waiting upon God through fasting and prayers,’ he stated: ‘Waiting upon the Lord is not a waste of time,’ referencing Mark 1:35 to illustrate Jesus Christ’s commitment to solitary prayer.

He encouraged Christians to emulate this example by setting aside dedicated time for communion with God.

He further explained that waiting on God involves more than just speaking in prayer; it requires listening to God’s voice.

‘Prayer is communication, but sometimes when we communicate, we do not wait to hear from God,’ he noted.

Prophet Antwi also discussed the benefits of fasting, stating that it humbles believers before God, provides both physical and spiritual strength, and enhances the ability to resist temptation.

‘When we fast, we suppress fleshy demands,’ he said, adding that it positions individuals favourably before God and man, and ensures the presence of God in their lives.

‘There should be consistency on waiting on God and spending quality time with Him,’ he indicated.

The International Missions Director (IMD) of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe, has charged young person to actively seek the mantle of their calling.

He made the clarion call during the opening session of the 2025 PENSA Ghana Conference on Thursday, December 2, 2024.

Speaking from the PCC Centre at Gomoa Fetteh in a sermon titled, ‘Walk the Calling,’ based on Ephesians 4:1-3, Apostle Bekoe emphasised that the calling believers receive fundamentally shapes their lives.

He stated: ‘If there is no calling, there is no life,’ highlighting that this calling is not merely a vocation but an invitation to partake in the privileges of the gospel.

He elaborated that embracing this calling requires a commitment that often restricts personal freedom, leading believers down a narrow path that fosters spiritual growth.

Apostle Bekoe articulated that the life shaped by this calling culminates in a code of conduct, which he described as the fruits of one’s faith. He noted that these fruits are essential for effective ministry and must precede the manifestation of spiritual gifts.

‘You must first bear the fruits before manifesting the gifts,’ he explained, warning that failure to do so results in a misalignment of spiritual authority.

The IMD touched on some of the codes of conduct as complete humility, describing it as a mindset necessary for spiritual elevation; gentleness or meekness, which involves yielding to God’s demands and preserving His will; patience, defining it as developing fortitude and courage amidst adversity; forbearance or endurance, which means supporting others through hardships with love; and unity of spirit, which focuses on maintaining harmony within the body of Christ.

Apostle Bekoe also drew distinctions between church offices and mantles, explaining that while offices represent administrative roles, mantles signify the divine power and authority required to fulfill those roles. He warned that if spiritual codes are compromised, it could result in leaders holding titles without true power.

He further expounded on various church offices: the apostolic office governs with signs and wonders; the prophetic office guides as oracles of God; the evangelistic office gathers and liberates captives; the pastoral office guards and rescues souls; and the teaching office grounds believers and fosters discipleship.

Apostle Emmanuel Agyemang Bekoe ended by urging participants to embody their callings authentically, saying, ‘If you cannot walk the talk, you cannot talk the walk and so you cannot walk the calling.’

Welcoming the over 2,500 exuberant youth from various tertiary institutions in the Western and Central regions on Thursday night, January 2, 2025, Apostle Dr Amos Jimmy Markin, Cape Coast Area Head and Chairman of the Central Regional Coordinating Committee of the church, expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to bring together such a special group of individuals to the city.

Describing PENSA members as ‘God’s special people,’ he commended their commitment to faith and personal growth.

Speaking on the theme for the conference, Apostle Dr Markin underscored the enduring power of the word of God, referring to it as ‘the only standing truth in the world’s constitution.’

He reminded participants that Jesus is the ultimate Master and Teacher, urging them to dedicate their hearts and minds to God for a renewed and purposeful self.

‘Place your hands in the heart of Jesus,’ Apostle Dr Markin encouraged, emphasising the importance of absolute surrender and devotion. He called on the youth to give their utmost attention to God, assuring them that a life anchored in Christ is one of transformation and lasting impact.

The conference venue was filled with students, PENSA Alumni, including area youth leaders from the Central Region, pastors and their wives, and other key stakeholders.
