The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Oboubi, has admonished Christian leaders to strive to be servant leaders.

Apostle Oboubi made this call on Sunday, August 11, 2024, when he was speaking at the farewell service of Pastor Gabriel Owusu at the Osu Central Assembly church auditorium.

Delivering a sermon titled “The Christian Leader,” he underscored the essence of a good leader in all aspects of life, noting that a blind leader will lead his or her followers into a ditch.

He indicated that Christian leaders must not be blind (spiritually) so that those they lead will not be led into destruction. According to Apostle Oboubi, leadership is not a call to lord over followers but to serve them.

He urged Christian leaders to be like Jesus, who always exemplified servant leadership when He was on earth. One such instance is when He washed the feet of His disciples, which was not supposed to be the case under Jewish law since He was a master.

Touching on the expectations of Christian leaders as servant leaders, the Chief Scribe of The Church of Pentecost mentioned that such leaders don’t have any significant rights and should do all that ought to be done without expecting praise and commendation.

He also revealed that servant leaders are shepherds who sacrifice their personal comfort for the well-being of their flock and take the time and energy to build solid and genuine relationships with those they lead.

Apostle Oboubi also noted that such persons are instruments in God’s hand, which is the greatest privilege any person can have.

He added that Christian leaders who are servant leaders must be seen as soldiers who are disciplined and focused solely on the mandate of God, who has called them.

The General Secretary, therefore, called on all ministers and Christian leaders to emulate Jesus’ style of leadership, cautioning that “if you don’t shepherd God’s flock well, you’re creating a problem for yourself because it cost someone (Jesus) His blood to save His flock.”

Also present at the service were Apostle Dr. Colonel B. G. Kumi Wood, Chaplaincy Ministry Director, and his wife; Rev. Dr. David Adotey, Chairman of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Osu South District; and some pastors from the La Area Pastorate.
