The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has urged newly called missionaries and Christian leaders to cultivate unwavering zeal for God’s work, describing it as an indispensable ingredient for effective ministry and missions.
Speaking on the topic, “Zeal for Ministry and Missions,” on the second day of the 2026 Orientation Course for newly called missionaries and ministers completing their ministerial formation at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, Apostle Obuobi explained that passion for God and His kingdom is what propels believers to accomplish their divine assignment.
Drawing from 2 Kings 10:16 and John 2:17, the General Secretary identified three indispensable requirements for every Christian leader: the anointing of the Holy Spirit, zeal for the Lord, and knowledge.
According to him, the anointing gives believers the divine mandate and authority to serve, zeal provides the passion and drive to labour for God, while knowledge equips them to channel that zeal effectively.
He explained that Scripture consistently demonstrates how God’s zeal accomplishes His purposes, citing Isaiah 9:7, which declares that the zeal of the Lord would establish and sustain His kingdom.
Using Jehu as a biblical example, Apostle Obuobi observed that two factors accounted for his revolutionary exploits: the anointing upon his life and his zeal for the Lord. He described zeal as great energy, enthusiasm and passionate dedication to a cause, explaining that in ministry it translates into exceptional devotion and fervent commitment to the work of missions.
The General Secretary also presented Jesus Christ as the ultimate model of zeal, noting that throughout His earthly ministry, He demonstrated unwavering passion for His Father’s work. Referring to Isaiah 59:17, he stated that Christ came clothed with zeal and urged the participants to emulate His example by serving with the same spiritual fervour and sense of purpose.
According to Apostle Obuobi, zeal is the force that inspires believers to accomplish God’s will, produces boldness and courage in ministry, cultivates hatred for sin, and motivates sacrificial service to both God and humanity. He added that genuine zeal also compels Christians to care for the needy, use their spiritual gifts to edify the Church and maintain a deep interest in advancing God’s kingdom.
Highlighting the life of Apostle Paul, he noted that unwavering passion for Christ enabled the apostle to endure hardship and faithfully fulfil his missionary calling.
Apostle Obuobi concluded by exhorting the participants to heed the Apostle Paul’s admonition in Romans 12:11, urging them not to be slothful in zeal but to remain fervent in spirit as they serve the Lord.
The ongoing orientation programme is equipping newly called missionaries and ministers with the biblical, spiritual and practical foundations needed to effectively proclaim the gospel and transform societies through the power of the Holy Spirit.
