The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, has posited that the enduring strength and future of the Church depend on its commitment to the Word of God.
According to him, while philosophies, traditions, and human opinions may change with time, the Scriptures remain the surest foundation for preserving the Church across generations.
He made this assertion when he delivered the sermon on the topic, “The Seed Is the Word,” at the Pentecost Students and Associates (PENSA) Auditorium of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
He noted that while the Church may not have direct control over an individual’s genetic makeup or circumstances, the word of God a powerful tool capable of bringing lasting transformation.
“A person’s behaviour is influenced by what they feed on. The greatest weapon we have is what the individual consumes. When we feed on the Word of God, we can change the individual through the gospel,” he stated.
The Chairman noted that the Church’s numerous social interventions and partnerships are aimed at improving communities are not merely acts of philanthropy. According to him, the interventions are part of a holistic mission to create environments where people can flourish.
He, however, stressed that true and lasting transformation begins with the renewal of the human heart through God’s word.
Referencing Colossians 2:8, Apostle Nyamekye cautioned believers against allowing their minds to be dominated by human philosophies and deceptive teachings. He urged ministers and church leaders to teach sound biblical doctrine, emphasising that the safest way to preserve the Church across generations is to anchor it firmly in the word of God rather than in arguments or philosophies.
Touching on the Church’s 2026 theme, “The Church Unleashed to Transform Society Through the Gospel and the Power of the Holy Spirit,” he explained that societal transformation begins with transformed individuals. He pointed out that society comprises people and the systems that govern them, making the gospel the primary instrument for genuine and sustainable change.
“The key to the transformation of persons and society is the word of God, which is referred to in the 2026 theme as the gospel,” he said.
Drawing lessons from Mark 4:13-19, Apostle Nyamekye explained that the devil persistently attacks the Word because of its power to save, liberate, and transform lives.
“When the Word is planted in you, it can set you free. That is what the devil does not want,” he remarked, adding that the power of God’s word must never be underestimated.
Quoting Hebrews 1:3, he further highlighted the sustaining power of the Word, noting that God not only created all things through His Word but continues to uphold the universe by it.
“He sustains marriages, businesses, vocations and all things by His powerful Word,” he emphasised.
Apostle Nyamekye expressed concern that many Christians continue to struggle with fear, anxiety, and spiritual stagnation because they neglect the discipline of studying and applying God’s word in their daily lives.
Concluding with Acts 20:32, Apostle Nyamekye encouraged believers to remain devoted to Scripture, assuring them that the word of God possesses the power to build them up, shape their thinking, and position them for their inheritance in Christ.
“The word of God can build you up; it will teach you how to think,” he concluded. Present at the service were Mrs Mary Nyamekye (Wife of the Chairman), Apostle Dr Ebenezer Hagan (Youth Director) and his wife, Priscilla; Apostle Daniel Nii Tackie Tetteh (Winneba Area Head); the Area pastorate, PENSA UEW leadership and the student populace.
