The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has inaugurated an eight-member National Emergency Management Committee to coordinate the church’s response to disasters and national emergencies across the country.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the church’s General Headquarters in Accra during a short ceremony.
The establishment of the committee follows recent disasters, including the Kantamanto Market fire outbreak in Accra and other emergencies at the Kejetia Market in Kumasi, which affected several members of the church.
Speaking at the event, Apostle Obuobi explained that the formation of the committee had become necessary due to the rapid growth of the church and the increasing need for a coordinated structure to manage emergencies and crises affecting members nationwide.
According to him, with nearly thirteen percent of Ghana’s population affiliated with the church, leadership considered it prudent to establish a dedicated body to respond swiftly and effectively whenever disasters occur.
He further disclosed that the decision followed a formal proposal submitted by the Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS) to the Executive Council.
Chairman of the committee, Apostle Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo, an Executive Council member, expressed gratitude to the leadership of the church for the confidence reposed in the committee and assured of their commitment to the assignment entrusted to them.
Also speaking at the event, Chairman of the PENTSOS Board, Elder Dr Kwabena Owusu-Sekyere, underscored the importance of the committee, noting that the likelihood of members being affected by disasters remains high, making preparedness and coordinated response essential.
Other members of the committee include Pastor Emmanuel Kobina Appah (Finance and Administration Director of the Church), Pastor Dr Ebenezer Tetteh Kpalam of the Pentecost University; Elder Dr Kwabena Owusu-Sekyere of PENTSOS; Mrs Priscilla Yirebi, representing pastors’ wives; Elder Dr Joshua Amebletor, Deaconess Dr Nana Kum Krampah I, and Elder Mark Brako Appiah.
The Church believes the committee will significantly strengthen its capacity to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies and disasters affecting members and communities across the nation.
