The Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC), Michel Camp, in the Ashaiman Area of The Church of Pentecost, celebrated its 10th Anniversary in grand style on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
The event was a remarkable occasion that brought together congregants, church leaders, and community members to reflect on a decade of spiritual growth, impactful ministry, and community transformation.
Present at the ceremony were Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi (Ashaiman Area Head and Executive Council Member), Nene Nomoteye Akrofi III (Chief of Nsreho popular known as Kakasunanka), and Lt. Col. Frank Adams (Commanding Officer 1 Infantry Battalion, Michel Camp).
The celebration was marked by a sermon delivered by Apostle Kumi-Larbi titled, ‘A Tool in God’s Hand: Created in Christ for Good Works.’
Drawing from Colossians 3:1-17, Apostle Kumi Larbi urged believers to ‘put off’ unholy behaviours and embrace virtues such as compassion, forgiveness, and love. He encouraged the congregation to see themselves as instruments of God’s purpose, created for good works that glorify Him, stressing the transformative journey of Christians from their old sinful nature to their new identity in Christ.
The event also featured moments of worship, testimonies, and reflections on the church’s journey since its inception. Members expressed gratitude for God’s faithfulness and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the mission of The Church of Pentecost.
PIWC Michel Camp began as the English assembly of the Michel Camp District in January 2008 under the leadership of then District Minister, Pastor Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi (now Apostle). Its first service was held on January 27, 2008, with an initial adult membership of 148. In August 2014, it was upgraded to a Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) when the late Apostle Nene Ahorlu Ofoe Amegatcher was the Area Head for Ashaiman.
Over the years, PIWC Michel Camp has experienced significant growth. By the end of 2024, its membership had grown to 1,534, comprising 1,112 adults and 422 children. The church has also expanded its facilities to include a main auditorium, an Akan assembly chapel (originally built as a children’s auditorium), a children’s auditorium constructed in 2023, a mission house completed in 2014, and other essential facilities such as a baptistry.
Leadership has played a crucial role in the church’s development. Key figures include Elder Owusu-Mensah Abunyewa, who was instrumental in overseeing the transition from an English assembly to a PIWC; Pastor Henry Sowah Ako-Nai, the first Resident Minister, and the current Resident Minister, Pastor Lieutenant Franklin Kumi Lartey. The church has also produced notable leaders like Overseer Benjamin Ameyaw.
