The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to change their attitudes towards the environment.
Addressing various stakeholders at Kasoa in the Central Region during a national clean-up exercise organised by The Church of Pentecost on Saturday, March 16, 2024, Apostle Obuobi expressed grave concern about how the church members cleaned the Kasoa Main Lorry Station, only to be littered a few minutes later.
According to him, to ensure a sustainable environmental cleanliness, attitudinal change is key. This, he said, calls for intensified public education and the implementation of environmental by-laws.
“The problem we have at hand is attitudinal. We just cleaned this place, and people have littered again. Ghanaians must change their attitudes toward the environment if we really want to ensure a clean environment,” he bemoaned, adding, “Let’s intensify public education for people to change their attitudes.”
Earlier, the General Secretary called on the Kasoa Odikro, Nai Sani Seidu III and his elders. The chiefs expressed their happiness in receiving the General Secretary and his entourage, touting the longstanding relationship that exists between The Church of Pentecost and the Kasoa palace.
Pledging their support for the clean-up exercise, Nai Sani Seidu and his elders joined Apostle Obuobi and moved to the Kasoa Main Lorry Station where they met with the leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and later engaged traders and hawkers at the station. Apostle Obuobi entreated the GPRTU officials to educate drivers to install dustbins in their vehicles to prevent passengers from throwing away waste out of moving vehicles.
He also entreated traders and hawkers to take issues about the environment seriously to prevent environmental related diseases which may affect their economic activities.
Later, the General Secretary and the chiefs, joined ministers and members of the church to clean various parts of the Kasoa city.
The Environmental Health Officer of the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly, Godson Lodo, told Pentecost News that the Assembly together with Zoomlion joined the exercise to provide logistics.
He thanked The Church of Pentecost for initiating the annual programme, saying, “Ghana is grateful to you.”
The Kasoa Area Coordinator for the Environmental Care Campaign, Pastor David Ayisi, also called on traditional authorities to use their powers to initiate environmental by-laws to help keep Ghana clean.
