Apostle Eric Nyamekye, President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), who doubles as Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, has paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeayo Dr. Agyemang Badu II.
The visit took place on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Abanpredease Palace, Dormaa Ahenkro. Joining the Chairman were Odeneho Dr. Afram Brempong III (Paramount Chief of Suma Traditional Area and National Secretary, Chieftaincy Ministry of The Church of Pentecost), Osabarima Asiedu Kotwi (Paramount Chief of Kwatsoma Traditional Area), and Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Agyemang (District Chief Executive, Dormaa East District), who are members of the church.
Other members of the entourage were Mrs Mary Nyamekye (Wife of the Chairman), Apostle Samuel Berko (Berekum Area Head), Mrs Joyce Berko (Wife of Berekum Area Head), and the Berekum Area pastorate. Explaining the rationale behind the visit, the Paramount Chief of the Suma Traditional Area, Odeneho Dr. Afram Brempong, stated that the Chairman was in the region to commemorate Easter, which marks the crucifixion, death, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
He said that as part of the visit, Apostle Nyamekye had come to reaffirm the link between the Church and the Chieftaincy institution. On his part, the Chairman thanked God for the wisdom given to the Dormaahene to lead his people.
“Chieftaincy is the soul of the nation. We look forward to seeing priests and chiefs moving together in building the nation,” he said, adding, “The church position is that when someone is a royal, it doesn’t mean he or she is an idol worshipper.”
Apostle Nyamekye added: “Chieftaincy in Ghana must be developed such that it will take its rightful place in the nation, not through politicians.”
The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeayo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, in response, expressed his joy about the Chieftaincy Ministry of The Church of Pentecost which seeks to bring chiefs and royals closer to God in worship, saying, “Christianity brings to bear that there is a Saviour and God who created the earth.”
He called on chiefs not to abuse the power vested in them by the people.
Nana Agyemang Badu lauded Apostle Nyamekye for the tremendous work and development he is leading the church to do in the nation. He pledged support to the clergy in ensuring that the morality of the nation is upheld without any external influences.
The President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, then, donated an acre of land, located at Sunyani, to The Church of Pentecost, for future development in the Bono region.
Present were Nana Barima Okogyeatuo Agyemang (Dormaa Adontenhene), Nana Baffour Agyei Denkyembour (Dormaa Afransoa Chief), Osagyefo Kyeame Boakye (Dormaahene Kyeame), Okyeame Ofosuhene Gyeabour (Sumamanhene Kyeame), and other sub-chiefs in the traditional area.
