The General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, has commissioned a new Pensions Board of the Church, with Apostle David Amankwah as Chairman.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the Church’s General Headquarters on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, marked the transition from the leadership of Apostle John Appiah Edu, who served as Chairman of the Pensions Board for 14 years.
Speaking at the ceremony, Apostle Obuobi commended Apostle John Appiah Aidoo for his dedicated service and contribution to the administration of the Church’s pension arrangement and the welfare of its retirees.
He said the outgoing Chairman’s tenure had been characterised by commitment, diligence and prudent stewardship, noting that the progress recorded by the Board was also the result of the collective efforts of its members.
Apostle Obuobi charged the newly constituted Board to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability, prudent management and sound governance in the administration and investment of pension funds.
He said the funds entrusted to the Board represented the future security and welfare of people who had served the Church faithfully over the years.
The General Secretary also urged the new leadership to pay greater attention to the welfare of retirees, particularly through health education and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
He encouraged the Board to ensure that retirees were treated with dignity, honour and appreciation, while their concerns were addressed promptly and respectfully.
Apostle Obuobi further called on the Board to embrace innovation in investment, service delivery, communication, digitalisation and retirement support, while ensuring that such initiatives remained consistent with sound governance and prudent financial management.
He reminded the new leadership that it was not starting from scratch, but was taking over a foundation laid by previous Pensions Board leaders.
“Your task is to preserve what is good, strengthen what requires improvement, and introduce what is necessary for the future,” he said.
Responding to the charge, Apostle David Amankwah expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and the other members of the new Board.
He acknowledged the contribution of the former Chairman and said the new leadership would rely on the grace of God as it builds on the foundation laid by its predecessors.
He appealed to members of the Church to continue supporting the Board with prayers as it takes up the responsibility.
“We are counting on the grace of God, and we plead that you continue to bear us up in prayer so that where our dear Apostle John Appiah Edu left off, we’ll build on that to the glory of God,” he said.
The General Secretary called for continued unity among members of the new Board and urged them to draw on their diverse professional backgrounds and expertise to strengthen the Church’s pension system.
He also expressed confidence in the new leadership and wished the Board success as it assumes responsibility for the continued development of the Church’s pension arrangements and the welfare of its retirees.
Apostle Amankwah expressed appreciation to the Leadership of the church on behalf of the bord for the opportunity to serve, while expressing hope that the Pensions Board would attain greater heights in the discharge of its responsibilities.
