The Abandze District in the Mankessim Area of The Church of Pentecost (CoP), together with the chiefs and people of Abandze, has undertaken a massive clean-up exercise at the Abandze beach, near the Abandze Methodist Basic Schools.

The exercise which took place on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, was organized following a stakeholders’ forum on environmental cleanliness held on Sunday, February 23, 2020 as part of the National Environmental Care Campaign Week being observed by the church. The forum was attended by the Chief of Abandze, school heads and teachers, Unit Committee Members, market women as well as the Local Council of Churches.

The clean-up exercise which lasted for 7 hours (5:00 am to 11:00 am), saw the beach, which is very close to the school, given a massive transformation.

Speaking to PENTECOST NEWS, the Abandze District Minister, Pastor Isaiah Katakye, who led the exercise, said that the headteachers of the schools have been engaged on how to maintain the cleaned environment.

“The teachers have proposed to the community to construct a volleyball court for the school as a way of sustaining the environment. However, in the meantime, they have apportioned the area and assigned it to the pupils as sweeping plots,” he said.

Pastor Katakyie also indicated that the fisherfolks have been engaged and advised to ensure that the surroundings are always kept clean. According to him, the community has also agreed to undertake a clean-up exercise on Saturday, February 29 in order to improve sanitary conditions in the area.
