44th Virtual General Council Meetings Start

The 44th General Council Meetings of The Church of Pentecost have begun today, Tuesday, June 2, 2020, and will end on Friday, June 5. It is under the theme, “A Glorious Church to Possess the Nations” (Eph. 3:21; 5:27).

Performing the opening ceremony Tuesday morning via social media and PENT TV, the Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, took the opportunity to express his deepest appreciation to God for how far He has brought the Church. “We can testify of His awesome grace upon the Church since its inception until now,” he said, adding, “I again acknowledge His grace upon the Church in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic. May His name be praised, now and forevermore.”

According to the Chairman, this year’s council meetings will go down in history as the first-ever virtual council meetings of The Church of Pentecost, saying, “Though we would have wished to have fellowship among ourselves as we usually do, the COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated these meetings to be held virtually, owing to the restrictions imposed on mass gatherings and the closure of nations’ borders.

“As indicated earlier, in my Easter circular, the Maker of the universe is our God and nothing surprises Him. I am convinced that He is in control of everything and He knows how to keep and preserve His Church in moments such as this. At the end, the Lord will gain glory for His great name and the Church shall come out stronger.”

However, the 15-Member Executive Council which will coordinate the meetings will meet during the period to pray, strategise and facilitate the various sessions of the meetings.

This year’s meeting will among others specifically deal with the elections to fill vacancies that will be created on the Executive Council due to some members having completed their terms; reviews and appointments, and transfer of ministers.

The elections would be held by electronic means on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. Councillors in their various Areas and nations will vote electronically.

Meanwhile, the Executive Council Members who have completed their terms are Apostle Emmanuel Anthony Owusu (Canada National Head), Apostle David Tettey Tekper (Achimota Area Head), Apostle Mike Obeng Andoh (Sunyani Area Head), Apostle Isaac Nii Kotei Djani (Tamale Area Head), Apostle Joseph Assabil (Takoradi Area Head), Apostle Yaw Adjei-Kwarteng (Hohoe Area Head), and Apostle Samuel Osei Asante (Koforidua Area Head). However, Apostles Adjei-Kwarteng, Nii Kotei Djani, and S. O. Asante, who have served one term can be reviewed for another term if they were nominated by the Executive Council and subsequently endorsed by the Councillors.

The three Ministry Directors who have also completed their terms and will be replaced are Apostle Fred Tiakor (Children’s Director), Apostle Emmanuel Ofei Ankra-Badu (PEMEM Director) and Mrs Grace Lucy Yeboah-Asuama (Women’s Director).

The climax of the meeting on Friday, which would involve the announcement of major decisions taken during the meetings and transfers, would be telecast live on PENT TV, Facebook and other social media platforms of the church.
