This year’s Heads’ Prayer Meeting of The Church of Pentecost has ended with a clarion call on all ministers of the church to internalize the vision of “Possessing the Nations” for Christ Jesus.
The annual event took place from 11th to 15th November, 2019, at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, under the theme, “A Glorious Church to Possess the Nations” – Ephesians 3:21; 5:27, which is the year 2020 theme of the church.
It was attended by Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, National/Area Heads and Ministry Directors. Also present were the two past Chairmen of the church, Apostles Dr Michael Kwabena Ntumy and Prof. Opoku Onyinah.
In his closing address on Friday, the Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, admitted that the meeting had enjoyed the divine visitation of God through sizzling messages, discussions, songs and prayer sessions.
“Dearly beloved, with all these refreshing messages we have received from our speakers and the fulfilling time we have spent in the Lord’s presence, may we leave this meeting with a renewed zeal to possess the nations for the Lord as we commit ourselves to building a glorious church,” he said.
With the renewed zeal, the Chairman charged the heads to internalise the vision 2023 of the church, picture the intended results, talk about it repeatedly until it becomes an important story that they are able to model for their pastors, officers and members to emulate.
Apostle Nyamekye commended the two past Chairmen for gracing the event as well as the various speakers – Apostles Dr. Daniel Walker, Dr. Alfred Koduah, Joseph Assabil, David Tettey Tekper, Prof. Peter Kyei (Rtd.), Massaboi Zuwu and Elder Prof. Otoo Ellis – who presented papers on various aspects of the theme and the vision.
The topics included; The Church Called to a Holy Living; Secular Humanism; Living a Life of Integrity as a Christian; Possessing the Nations through Prayer; Raising Godly Children to Possess the Nations; I am an Agent of Transformation; The Power and Beauty of Christian Fellowship and Possessing the Nations through Personal Evangelism.
There were presentations on the newly introduced ministry interventions such as Home and Urban Missions, Ministries to Persons Living with Disability, PENTSOS, Chaplaincy, Counselling, Workers Guilds and PENSA International by their respective leaders.
Some major decisions that were taken during the meeting include; the formation of a committee to review the structure of the Children’s Ministry; Reaffirmation of the church’s policy on marriage which frowns on marriages celebrated in parks or gardens or any other unauthorized venues; Discouraging the tendency of couples to sing or exchange self-created vows that are outside what is enshrined in the church’s Ministers’ handbook.
Others include not allowing kissing after the exchange of vows during weddings in the church; ensuring that church buildings are registered and gazetted, and the careful nomination and subsequent election of Area deacons.
On Area Deacons, the heads agreed that persons to be considered for the office of Area Deacon should be “weighty” and should also be individuals who can amply represent the presbytery and would not financially depend on the church.
