Death, described in Scripture as the “last enemy” (1 Corinthians 15:26), remains a painful reality for believers. For members of the Sunyani Central District of The Church of Pentecost and the wider church fraternity, the loss of Mrs Mercy Antwiwaa Asante, the late wife of the District Minister, was deeply felt, as grief and raw emotions filled the F. D. Walker Memorial Temple during a solemn yet hope-filled memorial service held on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
The service, chaired by the General Secretary of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, drew a large gathering of bereaved family members, ministers, church members, relatives, friends, and sympathisers, all of whom came to pay their final respects to a woman widely described as devoted, humble, and impactful.
Born on January 17, 1982, in Takoradi, Mrs Asante lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and service to both God and humanity. A professional teacher with the Ghana Education Service, she was widely respected for her discipline, commitment, and nurturing spirit.
Her journey in ministry began when she and her husband responded to the call into full-time ministry in 2010. Together, they served in various districts, including Bomaa, Adjakaa Manso, and the Sunyani Central District, where she has been called to glory.
Beyond her professional and ministerial roles, she was known for her exceptional hospitality, generosity, and deep commitment to the welfare of others, especially widows, children, and the vulnerable in society.
Delivering the sermon, the Sunyani Area Head and an Executive Council Member of the Church, Apostle Abraham Swanzy, spoke on the theme: “The Resurrection Voice – Power Beyond the Grave.”
Drawing from 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, he emphasised that only the voice of Jesus can be heard by both the living and the dead. He explained that this voice is unique and can only be recognised by those who have cultivated a close relationship with Him.
According to him, just as sheep recognise the voice of their shepherd, believers must become familiar with the voice of Jesus. He further noted that even in life’s storms, Christ speaks to give direction, guidance, and comfort.
Apostle Swanzy stressed that only those who recognise the voice of Christ will respond to the resurrection call and be raised into glory. He, therefore, assured congregants that Christians have hope beyond the grave because of the powerful Resurrection voice of Jesus.
Touching tributes from the widower, children, family, ministers, and the Church shared during the service painted a vivid picture of a woman whose life impacted many.
Her husband described her as a “prayer partner, quiet strength, and safe place,” highlighting her unwavering support throughout their 18 years of marriage and ministry.
Her children also paid an emotional tribute, recalling her commitment to family devotion, discipline, and prayer, noting that “she built a strong spiritual foundation” that continues to sustain them.
The Church described her as a woman of wisdom, humility, and integrity, whose calm spirit and gentle nature brought peace and stability to many.
Mrs Mercy Antwiwaa Asante’s life was characterised by selflessness, faith, and unwavering dedication to God’s work. Her influence continues to live on in her family, the Church, her students, and all who encountered her.
Though her passing has left a deep void, the Church remains comforted by the hope of the resurrection and the assurance that she rests in the Lord.
Mrs Asante, aged 44, is survived by her husband, Pastor Stephen Dankyi Asante, and their four children: Daniel Morris Asante, Stephen Dankyi Asante Jnr., Eric Christian Appau Asante, and Afia Serwaa Nyameye Asante.
