The New Tafo Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Prophet Samuel Tetteh Doku, has urged believers to strive for eternal rewards, despite the trials they may face.
Speaking on the topic, ‘Living for Eternal Rewards’ at the Ministers and Wives’ Conference at the Asokwa PIWC on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Prophet Doku emphasised that living for eternal rewards entails enduring sufferings that are meant to steer believers off their path. However, with faith in God, believers are assured of triumph and a crown.
According to him, it is essential for believers to live with a high sense of integrity, maintaining a consistent life whether being watched or not, and assuring that God has promised a reward described as an eternal wage of glory that believers will experience in Heaven.
‘Sufferings and hardships are temporary, and these cannot be compared with the reward we will receive in the next life and the glory we will enter. One way we can overcome these is to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of faith,’ he said.
He added: ‘Instead of being discouraged or depressed, let us cling to the promises of God which will prepare us.’
Prophet Doku also defined service to God and mankind, underscoring the need for believers to work hard to attain it. He emphasised that obedience to God’s word is key in receiving the blessings reserved in the heavenly places for the believers’ welfare.
‘How do we live for them?’ he asked. ‘By obeying God and His calling, no matter how we feel about it and how risky it may seem. We cannot expect to go only to places of comfort; suffering is part of the journey as well.’
Regarding the types of crowns reserved for those who stay true to God’s calling, he said, ‘The Crown of Life will be awarded to those who endure trials and temptations. The Imperishable Crown will be given to those who exercise self-control and discipline in their Christian life, the Crown of Righteousness to those who love and eagerly await the return of Jesus Christ.’
He disclosed that the Crown of Glory will be given to faithful shepherds and leaders of the church who cared for the flock, and the Crown of Rejoicing to those who lead others to Christ.
He concluded by saying that living for eternal rewards involves living a selfless and sacrificial life, devoid of rights, privileges, treasures, possessions, and expectations.
‘We must empty ourselves of these things to fulfill God’s plan,’ he added.
