The Hohoe Area Head and Executive Council Member of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Yaw Adjei-Kwarteng, has urged youth members not to sit on the fence, but arise and take active part in building the church of God.
Apostle Adjei-Kwarteng said this on Saturday, January 5, 2019, when he addressed participants of this year’s PENSA Ghana Conference currently ongoing at the Fred Diabene auditorium of the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh.
Speaking on the topic: “Marks of the Early Church; Lessons For PENSA”, based on Acts 5:1-6 with 2 Timothy 2:15, 1 Timothy 4:12, Mark 14, among others, as supporting scriptures, the Hohoe Area Head explained that there are some lessons of the early Church that contemporary Christians should learn in order to transform the world.
In his sermon, he described the early church to be the Church of God which first began on the Day of Pentecost; some days after the ascension of Jesus Christ. He also noted that the early church, in this context, represents all the churches that were established within the period CE (AD) 30 to 590.
Apostle Adjei-Kwarteng said that studiousness was one of the exemplary marks of the early Church. According to him, this characteristic of the early Church enabled them to affect their generation. He, therefore, called on youth members to commit to reading and studying the word of God as Paul instructed Timothy.
He further stated that spirituality and intellectuality are not mutually exclusive and that any believer of Christ ought to study to show him or herself approved. “The Holy Spirit is a teaching Spirit, hence those in whom He dwells ought to avail themselves for learning. So endeavour to read your Bible, study it and commit to memory,” he noted.
Another mark of the early Church he noted was the active presence of the youth in the early Church. According to him, Paul, Timothy and John Mark are some youth members of the Church who distinguished themselves and took active interest in the expansion of the work of God. He, therefore, advised youth members to emulate them and not emulate Eutychus who rather chose to “sit on the fence”.
Apostle Adjei-Kwarteng also advised the youth to equip themselves and build their capacities so that when opportunities come their way they will be ready to seize them. He also urged them to be self-controlled but to put their energies to profitable use.
In building their capacities, the Hohoe Area Head admonished the youth to do way or rid themselves of any inhibition such as pride and laziness so that God would use them for His purpose.
Concluding his message, Apostle Yaw Adjei-Kwarteng stated that another trait of the early Church was that it was a praying Church. He, therefore, urged the youth to develop a consistent prayer life and commit to effective prayers daily.
The 2019 PENSA Ghana Conference, dubbed “Transformation Agents Conference”, is being held under the auspices of the Youth Ministry of The Church of Pentecost. The event is under the theme: “I Will Build My Church” (Matthew 16:18 and Titus 2:13-14)
