The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, has underscored the importance of developing the right skills, attitudes, and character, stating that these qualities are indispensable for effective Christian leadership.

Speaking on the topic “Preachers as God’s Leaders” during the third day of the 2026 Orientation Course for newly called missionaries and ministers completing their ministerial formation at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, Apostle Nyamekye reminded participants that preachers are God’s foremost leaders and bear primary responsibility for the spiritual health, character and direction of the Church.

Drawing from 1 Corinthians 4:1, the Chairman stressed that ministers must live lives of integrity, explaining that those entrusted with God’s work should have nothing to hide. He described preachers as channels through which God’s anointing flows, adding that just as a pipeline must remain open for oil to flow unhindered, ministers must maintain lives of holiness and transparency for God to work effectively through them.

According to Apostle Nyamekye, the Church rarely rises above the spiritual character of its leaders. Citing the example of Israel, he noted that the nation’s leaders largely determined the character of its worship, adding that the same principle applies to the Church today.

The Chairman identified skill, attitude, and character as three essential qualities that make a leader effective.
On skill, Apostle Nyamekye explained that leadership competence is developed through knowledge, diligence, and consistent practice. Referring to David’s leadership, he noted that excellence is cultivated through continuous learning and discipline rather than natural ability alone.

“Diligence produces skill,” he stated, urging the participants not to allow the demands of ministry to make them complacent. While acknowledging the importance of spiritual gifts, he emphasised that gifts must be sharpened through training and personal development.

Touching on attitude, the Chairman described it as the mindset that influences a person’s responses, relationships, and approach to leadership. He urged the ministers to cultivate positive attitudes towards people, time, church policies, annual themes and the opposite sex, noting that respect and self-discipline are essential virtues for every leader.
Addressing character, Apostle Nyamekye defined it as the sum of a person’s moral qualities and ethical standards. He explained that godly character is not formed overnight but is built gradually through consistent obedience and faithful living.

“Character is built one step at a time, like building a cathedral,” he remarked.
Apostle Nyamekye concluded by encouraging the newly called missionaries and ministers to pursue continuous personal growth, stressing that spiritual authority becomes most effective when it is complemented by competence, Christlike attitudes, and exemplary character.
