As directed by the leadership of The Church of Pentecost, the Osu Central Assembly in the La Area of the Church has launched the Environmental Care Campaign aimed at addressing sanitation and environmental challenges in the country.
The event, which had in attendance the General Secretary, Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, took place on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the church auditorium.
The Environmental Care Campaign of The Church of Pentecost would take a three-prong approach: Education, Clean-up Exercises and Community-based initiatives.
Under Education, the Church shall seek to focus on attitudinal change by highlighting on some unhealthy practices that contribute to environmental degradation such as open defecation, noise pollution, improper disposal of waste, poor handling of pests and domestic animals, and unfriendly environmental-means of livelihood. Members and the general public would also be educated on the existing environmental by-laws.
On Clean-up Exercise, the Church would seek to instil in members the discipline to be physically responsible and involved in the care and cleaning of the environment.
The Church would also identify community-based initiatives related to the environment and pursue them. In view of this, all local assemblies and Districts of the Church nationwide have been encouraged to identify and to submit some community-based initiatives to their respective Areas to be submitted to the Head Office.
In addition to the above initiatives, the Church shall undertake activities such as bi-monthly Clean-up Exercises in public spaces at the district level, providing bins for all Mission Houses, Church buildings, homes and workplaces of members, using Pentecost Hour periods on the various radio stations to teach about cleanliness at least once every month; and use of social media platforms to promote the campaign; with the hashtag: #CleanGhana.
The Church would also collaborate with the Forestry Commission to undertake tree planting exercises at church sites, mission houses and other specific areas.
The Environmental Care Campaign is an initiative of The Church of Pentecost in partnership with government and Zoomlion Company Limited. It has as its slogan “My Environment; My Responsibility”.
