All eyes will be on Parliament on Thursday, November 15, 2018, as the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, presents the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government for the year ending December 31, 2019.

The Majority Chief Whip and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, Mr Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, gave the confirmation of the scheduled budget presentation in Parliament on Friday while presenting the business statement for the third week ending Friday, November 16, 2018.

He urged his colleague MPs to avail themselves on the said date for the budget statement.

The presentation of the budget statement is in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution.

Article 179 (1) stipulates that: “The President shall cause to be prepared and laid before Parliament at least one month before the end of the financial year, estimates of the revenues and expenditures of the Government of Ghana for the following financial year.”

Post budget workshop

Mr Ameyaw-Cheremeh said a post-budget workshop had been scheduled for all MPs in Koforidua, which is deviation from previous post-budget workshops which were attended by leaders of committees and some selected members.

He urged all members to attend the workshop and fully participate in the deliberations “since essential information would be provided at the workshop to equip members in the consideration of the budget.”
